What we heard: Dead Rising and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition are a tricky pair of titles for Capcom. Both originally billed as Microsoft exclusives, Lost Planet was subsequently delivered to the PlayStation 3, while Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop is expected to arrive for the Wii before the end of March. That, despite a Capcom representative expressly denying such an occurrence would happen.
For the next installments in the two franchises, Capcom is apparently focusing on a multiplatform release from the get-go. Speaking to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (a screenshot of which was obtained by Kotaku and translated by GameSpot), Capcom's Keiji Inafune told the gaming news outlet, "Please expect new Dead Rising and Lost Planet titles. While they will be on multiple platforms, we are thinking about having the 360 version play out differently."
Wait, did he just say new Dead Rising and Lost Planet games?
A sequel to Dead Rising has been hinted at since the original made its strong debut on the 360 in 2006. Most recently, reports surfaced in November that Dead Rising 2 was in development at Vancouver, Canada-based Blue Castle, the studio behind 2K Sports' well-received arcade-style baseball title The BIGS. What remains unclear, however, is whether or not Inafune's comments apply to an all-new Dead Rising, or simply the aforementioned Wii port, Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop.
However, Capcom has made no mention of a follow-up to its sci-fi third-person shooter Lost Planet. Be that as it may, the inevitability of a new installment in the series is all but a foregone conclusion. Aside from buoying Capcom's fiscal-year 2007 performance, the publisher has already announced plans to extend the franchise to the silver screen. In fact, Capcom devoted its entire E3 2008 press conference to the upcoming film, which will be penned by David Hayter, better known as the voice behind Metal Gear hero Solid Snake.
As for having the titles play out differently on the Xbox 360, the move would not be without precedent. Following the release of the original Lost Planet in January 2007 (not June, as initially reported), Capcom released Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies for the Xbox 360 and PC in May 2008. The reworked edition expanded upon the original, adding in a range of new single- and multiplayer modes as well as in-game items. Though the original Lost Planet was released for Sony's PS3, the Colonies edition remained a Microsoft exclusive.
The official story: Capcom had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.
Bogus or not bogus?: Barring a lost-in-translation moment, Inafune's comments clearly indicate that Capcom is at work on a new Lost Planet. It is less clear, however, whether Frank West has received a brand-new photo-journalism assignment. However, mounting evidence suggests that the dead will indeed rise again.
Yes, two good sequels coming. Or at least, they better come
co op? simi dustructable invironments? the ability to hold hold an amo supply? friendly military forces??? Are thoes are some of the things we can expect to make the game EVEN BETTER???
Lost Planet Online was one of the most underrated online games of this gen, I loved it!
its obvious everyone loved the non stop zombie killing! and who didnt play online on Lost Planet? of course they're going to make sequel!
I can do without Lost Planet 2. The first one made me feel sick.
lost planet 2 oh no thought they learn from the first game
Things id like in LP2: More VS's, upgradable guns, full use of the mobile trailel you see in cutscenes(maybe store guns and VS's you use in the levels in it?), Co-op for the campaign, a longer campaign mode, Spilt screen for online play, more Akrid for akrid hunter, Ability to recover health at data posts in online(Wayne can regenerate using t-eng why cant a snow pirate use a post to heal back up?) and how about more characters to use online? everything else was great so dont change it, even the story was fine if you could stomach the horrible VA, a capcom staple.
I sure do hope they come out with a new dead rising game. That'd be awesome! Never could get into lost planet though. I tried though...
With the number of players on line for both lost planet and colonies, a second release would be greatly excepted. I honestly do not know of any other on line game that is more playable then this one. However, in order to keep it viable new map and new weapons are a must. How about a multilevel may, accessible by jet packs, that would really put a new twist on combat.
I would like to see a co-op story mode, with better missions and a better story. The first one was a great title and I thank God that it was released for the ps3 since I ain't got no money to buy an xbox 360. Great, great game. Hoping to see more about it. Thank you Capcom.
Dead Rising 2! omgomgomg.
I really enjoyed lost planet. A sequel would do some good.
Dead Rising is so awesome got it when it came out... still play it... such a good game...
Sweet I hope they make a dead Rising 2! Lost Planet was a decent game but a little dry for my tastes.
hell yes deadrising 2!
A sequel to the best third person shooter in years. YES! Thank you Capcom! YES!!!!!! Cant wait for the exclusive stuff for it on 360. Personally I think LP2 needs co-op, more online modes, a better ending, and a larger variety in enemies. Get these, and my life will be complete for the next couple years or so.
The dead will rise again! Another Dead Rising would be awesome.
Lost Planet and Dead Rising would do well on co-op. DR is designed to possibly bring in Otis as the second character and Wayne in LP could pair up with Joe or say Luka or Basil allowing co-op pairing with Gamerchix!! :)
Wouldn't surprise me if both games are multiformat from the off. Plus, one thing Dead Rising 2 is crying out for... is co-op play!
Ah! I want Dead Rising 2!
I don't give two *** about Lost Planet games but a Dead Rising sequal certainly sounds interesting... :)
But I hope that if they do make follow ups for both games they greatly improved the gameplay (in my opinion)
I didn't like either of them, they both had really annoying things about them like how Dead Rising punished you to much for dying and forgeting to save it and in Lost Planet when you get hit the alien thing don't let you recover
NEED TO BE ABLE TO "GRIND" ON SKATEBOARD IN DEAD RISING2!!! Since You left it out of one...
I hope they have bigger text in Dead Rising 2.
dead rising yes Lost Planet no
bring out dead rising 2!
I want dead rising to take place in an open ended world instead of a mall, I think it would give you a lot of freedom.
Like has been said, forget Lost Planet (I and many others could care less), just give me/us that way over due Dead Rising 2!! Also, could the writer of this story say "however" any more? Also, forget a Lost Planet movie, make Dead Rising into a movie.....even though that has more or less been done a couple times, but with a different storyline obviously.
Yeah i agree trogeton, Never played Dead rising as i dont have a 360, but Lost Planet was pants, liked the looks of Dead Rising though
Forget Lost Planet.. I'm up for Dead Rising
What's wrong with a port? And who says the Wii is "lesser"? It's just "different". Graphics aren't everything, you know.
this is gonna be great :D
good job that capcom has gone onto making a new dead rising instead of focusing on a port to a lesser consol.
Nothing wrong with more games. Both were pretty good so sequels would be fine
This was confirmed months ago from what I believe, it's nice that a new Dead Rising is in the works, can't wait to see what other kinds of items I can use to bludgeon zombies back to re-death with.
More Lost Planet would be ideal. Can we make it a turn-based strategy Role-Playing game? Yeah, that'd be sweet.
I am excited for a Dead Rising sequel, but they better add lots of new features and longer story. The first was fun, but asides from boss battles, it got boring quick. Weapons were the same and zombies were the same. Needs more variety. If they fill the game with fun content, I'm sure it'll be a big hit.
I loved both Lost Planet and Dead rising!!! Both outstanding games!
give me dead rising for ps3 i need a zombie game for it
I'd love to see a sequel to Dead Rising. Lost Planet? Not so much.
dead rising was ok could of been better tho
dead rising 1 was rubbish
loved lost planet
@virtualtofu lmao, i like your thinking, way more creative than me....do u work for capcom?
No maybe it's called Lost Rising and zombies have invaded the island and you also have to fight "The Others".
maybe they are tying the 2 titles into 1 multiplatform game to cut down on costs? it could be called dead planet and have frank west running around in his jacket shooting stupid ai aliens rather than zombies in a mall and it should be set in nepal for all the snow
it has to happen dead rising is awesome for a sequal to happen would be great.
good idea about the alternate beginning jadefury27. They could set a default start for those that didn't own/play DR 1 and have some interesting beginnings for those of us that have a completed game file for the first game. It would make an interesting change to the yawn of alternate endings.....
OMG plz just say there will be another dead rising i hav waited 2 long 4 them 2 say no
