Deep Silver denies working with Spec Ops: The Line developer studio Yager on sequel to 2011 island-set zombie first-person shooter.
Earlier this week, a source told IGN Germany that Yager Development, which is presently finishing up Spec Ops: The Line for its June release, had been tapped to develop Dead Island 2. This is not the case, says Guido Eickmeyer, development director with the original game's publisher, Deep Silver.
"We are neither working with Yager on Dead Island 2 nor do we have any contractual agreement with Yager about any project at this point," he said.
The developer did not rule out working with Yager in the future, saying there is a "legitimate chance" the companies will one day team up. He even went as far as to say a future relationship could be on a project related to the Dead Island franchise.
Eickmeyer went on to explain that Deep Silver does not have Dead Island 2 "in concept or production with external partners" and that it is currently considering options for a sequel.
Dead Island was developed by Polish shop Techland and shipped in September 2011 to generally positive review scores. The game shipped 3 million copies and welcomed various add-on packs. Speculation about a follow-up sparked in November, when Techland filed a trademark application for Dead World.
Though a sequel to Dead Island is currently out of sight, a movie based on the property may see the light of day. Film studio Lionsgate optioned the rights from Deep Silver after the game shipped last year. Development of the Dead Island film will be led by The Mummy producer Sean Daniel and Stefan Sonnenfeld, who did postproduction work on various Pirates of the Caribbean films and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Ok ok there are some glitches that this game does have but I still can't get over this game it's a great game lots of missions lots of weapons, upgrading, alright graphics, vheicles, online coop and a beautiful Giant run around do whatever th eff u want atmosphere( sorry haters there's always gonna be glitches in EVERY GAME u buy) #Great game#cant wait for 2
Yeah, the game has it's glitches, but have ya'll played any Bethesda games? Stop hating on this game! This game is great, and one of the only games I can get the wife to sit down and play with me for more than 5 minutes! It's kinda like Borderlands with melee weapons instead of guns. Story could use work, and I wish I wouldn't freeze the game every time I drive a vehicle, but still, this is definitely a good game that needs a better sequel. I beat Fallout: N.V. at least 6 times, and that game was a lot more glitched than Dead Island, even after the fifty patches! I never saw the trailer...so I guess it didn't get my expectations up to have them shot down. I just wanted to bash in some zombie faces with the wife, and Dead Island gave me that for sure.
This is a franchise they should leave dead and buried. It disappointed on so many levels that a sequel would be neglected by alot of people that bought the first. Not to mention being tricked into thinking the game was something it's not with that ridiculous trailer. If they make another game, start over and call it something completely different.
@Vodoo What about this game was disappointing to you? I find many of these hate posts as being vague and so it to me just says "I hate it so everyone else should".
@Vodoo I agree, and disagree with you. Dead Island was a disappointing game. We expected a well written, emotional game. Instead we got an action game that you would not at all connect with the trailer that got you excited for the product in the first place. But, ironically enough, that's why Dead Island NEEDS a sequel. It started very promising, all that was bad about the game was the execution. If they clean up the shooting, animations, voice acting, and writing a bit, it will be a masterpiece.
I really enjoyed the co-op aspect of Dead Island, but as a single-player experience it was left wanting. Also, I thought the idea of having one of the characters as an expert with firearms in a game with bugger all guns a little silly.
I will have to say that Dead Island has its bugs as do all games these days. All in all it is a spectacular and fresh concept. I like the simulator feel over the rerun Resident Evil games. The open world was a nice touch. I do think the voice acting could have been better as well as having a bit more balance. When the zomies level up with you there is not point to leveling. I Realize many people think it sucked because it was not another gun down zombies game. Truthfully that is what sold me on it as well as dead rising. I wanted something that would pull on the reality of the situation. Really the repetition would be realistic. It is a true survival game. Use what you can find to survive. That is to me better than a cookie cutter res evil. Really if you hate this title then re-evaluate what you expect from a game. Most of theses people who hate the game expected to find an RPG in the cabinet. This was more of a simulator in that aspect and for me it was an amazing change to the RE survival.
I just didn't have my PS3 by the time it came out and my PC isn't good enough to run it. I may have to find some way to play it and judge for myself. I love the zombie genre and this game really did look great when I first saw the trailer.
@stjimmy222 There are bugs in it as in any game and this one uses team effort when in multiplayer. If you want a game that will challenge your senses and make you think how to survive also is not a walk in the park but a challenge to play... I think you will like this Title. I found hours of replay in it with friends and family. This game will not disappoint. If you are wanting an AK-47 in the gun cabinet that just happens to be placed in a kitchen aka. New REs... This title will not make you happy and you may want to wait for RE 6. This title has made me abandon RE all together.
@LoboIJK Thanks I appreciate the feedback, very helpful. I think I'll give it a go and see for myself cos it does look a promising game and I do like challenging gameplay. I still love RE and while 5 wasn't the best game it's still an alright game so 6 while most definitely be on the cards too. Thanks again.
WTF is with all the hate for this game!?!? Are you idiots even fans of the zombie genre? Jesus christ.. you'd think this game was like Shellshock 2 or something. This game is AMAZING! It's Borderlands with zombies, with focus on melee combat instead of guns. How the F does that not get your attention!? I hate people these days.. all it takes is 1 hater and everyone jumps on the hate wagon. I bought this game day 1, Collector's Edition from Gamestop and have never had 1 issue. Love everything about it and still play it today. Analog controls, Xian Mei, Zed's Demise Katana.. owns every other zombie game I've ever played. A Dead Island 2 or Dead World is a game that MUST be made. Anyone on the fence about this game.. if you enjoy zombies and open-worlds.. buy it now, F the haters!
@J0ESK0 your the only idiot. Its called an opinion everyone got to like what you love? Grow up.
@Killingjoke_666 What about my only idiot? Ohhh.. you mean you're. An opinion everyone got to like what I love?? Ohhh, you mean.. its an opinion,(comma) everyone got to like what I love? Grammar has been lost on you huh, who needs to up and grow again? Ha! Seriously though.. I never said people have to like what I love.. but there's so much hate for this game with no real reason behind it. Bugs? Every game has them.. a terrible game that does not make. My point is simple, if you love zombies and open-world rpg's.. this game is a wet dream. It seems the people in this thread were expecting a completely different game, like Resident Evil or L4D.. I'm just not understanding the hate. Be a doll and explain yourself if you're gonna hate on a game that did exactly what it intended to do, is that too much to ask? Yes.. of course it is, for the self-entitled piece of s*** generation ruining everything.

I want my other thumb back! The one that points down! There's too much wrong in these comments! Lol...
People who are happy about a game not being developed? People who hated the whole game because it wasn't like a trailer?? The first could learn about this thing called "tastes", and the second could learn to... not be completely silly. What can you expect a game to be from a cinematic trailer? People, think a little.
Now, the game had some flaws, some of them gamebreaking for a while, but overall it was a very fun game, and quite original (for a zombie game)
thank goodness Dead Island was a steaming pile of crap. The reset your levels bug in the game at launch made me want to punch a whole in the wall, fuck dead island.
indeed the trailer was pretty sick :D
its sad though .... I'm still w8ing for a proper zombie survival game :P ever since I played RE1
@vadagar1 check out deadlight...unfortunately its not for the pc which is just sad. IMO this is how a remake of castlevania: SoTN should be made if it came to be in this day and age....I wish deadlight would be ported or be made for pc instead ^__^
@vadagar1 same here.
Dead Island is like A gory B-game .. Love it all :D x there was some things wrong with it but that's what made it so good. Seedy Fun :D !
Dead island was ruined by the level designs. The beach resort was a boring place to explore.
The slums area was ok, but it became tedious to run back and forth between the quest and quest hub.
The sewer was just annoying and lame.
The jungle level, god. I don't even know why they added that. It made the game feel like a typical first person shooter/action game.
With guns doing less dmg to the zombies, that was a bummer. I really wanted to go all L4D on these zombies. Luckily, for the Pc copy you could edit the files, so you can head shot zombies to 1 shot em, or deal high dmg, and increase the dmg zombies took per bullet. So if you had found a gun, you could use it, instead of saving it for the rebels.
For Dead Island 2, I would suggest a proper city level. Something like New York. Huge tower buildings. Empty streets full of cars. Give it that feeling the world has ended, and your are a lone in a dusty, ruined city. Just don't use another beach resort/jungle level.
With my comment above. I found Dead Island a fun game to play (7/10), it was rated high. But there was a few minor issues. The quick join was a nice feature. But having to be on the same mission, did keep your friends a way.
If someone did 20 more mins of the game than you. He/she would have to wait for you to catch up.
So, don't add this lock out in DI2.
I've been playing the Day-Z mod for Arma and feel it is the true zombie survival experience. It is the game Dead Island should have been.
when i saw the trailer to dead island i was hanging out for it ,well it was abit of a letdown, its ok not great ,but with seuqal room for improvement and also if the trailer is going to be awesome i hope the game that follows it is to ,
I find if really retarded people are "Happy" this game is not in production or "Thanking God" over it. Really???? Get a clue people there is room in the world for games outside of your personal collection. FFS
Shame! The first was good not great but had potential to grow. I think we will see di2 eventually though...
The first one was a huge let down, I felt like what they told us before release and what we got were two completely different games. I was expecting more of hybrid of FPS, RPG and Survival Horror, not...well, Borderlands with bats.
I only got this game so my friend and I could play co op. It started out ok but MAN did it get tedious. To this day, I have never even finished the darn thing (nor do I even have the game anymore). A second one is not needed.
the game was "nice" but shooting zombies in the head and said zombies not going down was lame as hell.
and the sewer level was an abomination...
the story was messed up and there was no sense of an actual zombie Armageddon... it was not scary and too RPG-y to be a good zombie game, I guess that's why L4D was better.... it kept things simple.
if they make a DI2 then they better fix those things, and going melee with zombies just does not make them scary at all, they need to be more savage and more horde like, see dawn of the dead movie and just turn that into a game plz...
if they make a movie i would watch it asap just love to see how it started what was happening and what the survivors did from a different perspective
