Daytona USA rated for multiple platforms

Australian Classification Board shows new listing for a multiplatform version of Sega's classic arcade racer.

According to a recent Classification Board of Australia listing, Sega could be gearing up for a rerelease of its smash hit arcade racer Daytona USA. The classifcation listing simply says the game was submitted for classification by Sega, was classified with a G rating on September 14, 2011, and will be multiplatform.

Sega has shown a predisposition in recent years to mine its catalog for rereleases, with Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and more finding their way to downloadable storefronts. The publisher's arcade racing franchises have been no exception. The Dreamcast edition of Crazy Taxi debuted on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network last November. Earlier this year, Sega brought another of its vintage racing franchises to Microsoft and Sony's digital marketplaces with the launch of Sega Rally Online Arcade.

Daytona USA was first released in arcades in 1993 and was one of Sega's first-party titles at the 1995 launch of the Sega Saturn. In 2001, Sega also released a Dreamcast version of the title with added online play. More recently, the game Sega touts as "the most played arcade racer" was relaunched in 2010 under the name Sega Racing Classic.

As of press times, Sega had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

"G.A.M.E.O.V.E.R Hey! Hey! Hey!" Still imprinted in my brain after losing.

I remember daytona with much fondness, especially falling out of the pub and straight into the arcade and not being a very good drunk driver. Still! i managed the rolling start alright lol......

Still got it for my Saturn, although it isn't the Championship Edition, which I hear runs better. Either way, I'll pass on this one, since I prefer to play those retro games on their retro platform. I guess it's good for those who don't have it, or never played it.

Please be true... oh god please be true. This was the first game I fell in love with, and if it's a perfect Model 2 arcade port, Sega can shut up and take my money. If an arcade-perfect port of Daytona USA 2 is included, I will never complain about anything Sega does ever again.

I think Gamespot should realise that the Australian Classification Board always lists every game as a multi-platform. Even first-party IPs like Gears of War and Uncharted are listed as multi-platform.

I owned every sega console and I had great memories too with Daytona on the Saturn and Dreamcast. But after Crazy Taxi i put my hopes this time very low. Announcement about a HD remake of Skies of Arcadia would make me much more happier to be honest. Its not like the X360 has many great JRPG's to offer!

There are a lot of people singing in this topic. :) "You have to go easy on the car!"

Let's just all admit we miss the old Sega. I know I do.

I used to think that the lyrics to the theme were "Daytona, it's gonna rain, it's gonna rain."

I hope it's a port of Daytona USA 2 the Arcade Game. That is one game that hasn't been ported. Besides, I own the other version of the game already.

Auction_Sniper 8 pts

Lets hope it isn't a port from the Saturn version - I remember how disappointing that was to see it chugging away at 20fps.

Man Daytona USA was so much fun. Even if the Saturn port was kinda rough around the edges. Just as long as it has the karaoke terrible soundtrack lol

Hey, I got this on Sega Saturn! still works too. Also *snicker* "Given Sega's predisposition to re-release Xbox Live versions of classic Dreamcast and GENSIS titles" But this is just trolling. Don't toy with our Sega loving hearts like this. :( "Sega also released a Dreamcast version of the title, Daytona USA: Network Racing, in --2010-- and added online play. "

Add HD visuals and steering wheel support and I can guarantee I'll buy it on day 1.
