CD Projekt Red's new RPG renamed, will feature sandbox environment; GOG now available on Mac with pay-what-you-want pricing for Interplay games.
Today during a presentation in Warsaw, Poland, CD Projekt Red announced the full title for its new Cyberpunk role-playing game. The project is now officially known as Cyberpunk 2077.
Gamers may want to temper back their excitement for the project, as company cofounder Marcin Iwinski said the game is still in "early development." Fans can stay up to date with the development process through the game's blog, which launched today with insight from developers and Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith.
Cyberpunk 2077 puts players into a "dark future" in 2077 where advanced technologies have become "both the salvation and the curse of humanity." The game promises a nonlinear story designed for "mature" players and is set in the metropolis of Night City. It was also revealed today that Cyberpunk 2077 will feature sandbox elements, though this was not specified in any length.
Additionally, CD Projekt Red announced today that its digital distribution hub GOG.com is now available for Mac. The service launched today with 50 games, including The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, Faster Than Light, SimCity 2000, and others. All purchases include both the Mac and PC versions.
Additionally, in celebration of GOG's fourth anniversary, all Interplay titles will be available through a pay-what-you-want pricing option for the next two weeks. For more on that promotion and the games included, check out the official website.
Lastly, it was announced that the company's Red Kit modding toolset for The Witcher will be available for free sometime during the first half of 2013 and that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has sold over 2 million copies worldwide to date.

1 Like @erix43 Maybe not entirely, this was one of those vague game trailers that left people foaming at the mouth for any details ASAP. Not surprised Gamespot thinks it is newsworthy. Either way GOG is a well enough liked and unique service that I'd be a little more tolerant towards cheap plugs compared to some companies that do the same thing.
Now I sound like a fanboy so here's something negative, they pissed customers off once taking down GOG website without notice then later admit it was a marketing ploy for launching their new site. Then apologized, yet here they are again....

Open world would be interesting if it had an open economy, people create stuff and sell, ala Eve Online style but with real-world money. Would be interesting in a steampunk setting.

You're comparing Ouya with consoles who had 4 generations on the market. How many did Ouya have? 0, it's not out there yet. However, the fact they pulled 8.5 million from the general public as an investment before they had a product should show the potential of the market. However, the real test will the be effective launch and the games available on launch.

@pidow I'm not saying you said that. I'm saying someone else who has been following this game on gamespot said that. I understand both of your points. No need to get defensive. The whole time I was playing Witcher 2 I was clamoring for CDPR's take on the sci-fi genre as I like the content of the Witcher games but prefer sci-fi to fantasy. So, like that other person, I can understand why they would say, "Shut up and take my money." I can also see why others -- you for instance -- would want more information. Day-one buy for me is usually a four letter word. Except with this one. Sheesh. So defensive.
7 Like Ok, let me call this one out: STOP WITH THE CONSOLES V/S PC TALKS... If you consider yourself a gamer, you would enjoy games NO MATTER the platform... PC has some great games, Consoles have also some great games, there are some that are multi that are good. but please, PLEASE stop with that "console is better than pc / no, pc kicks console ass" cause that's only showing how narrow minded you can be...

Cyberpunk 2020, was (is) the best cyberpunk rpg ever. (And not a "generic name")
I'm going to wish that it's going to be a good (nay awesome) game, but I've had my heart broken so many times.
Okay, all I want to say here is this better DO JUSTICE to this very promising genre...I am so very tired of nerfs and lack of ambition when there so very much potential. Of course, you all might keep your developing minds out of the 'grit' and filth so you might actually see the light in this way...
@mAArdman Less "generic"? Just because you're clueless to the history behind Cyberpunk 2077, doesn't mean they need to change the title to reflect your limited knowledge.

The name was less generic in the 80s but now a lot of games have cyberpunk settings.
They could choose a more interesting title while still working with the Cyberpunk 2020 world and its writer.
Also I wrote this several months ago and your easily offended mind should find more recent comments to reply to.

I remember a few months ago I said that if CDPR wanted to prove themselves a competent and brilliant company, they would have to find success in more than one franchise. Naturally, I'm positively ecstatic that they are branching out and investing in another IP. I can't wait to see how they bring role-playing to a cyberpunk setting!
Yeah I'm excited about this one. It will be awhile before we see a release date, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
