CEO Cevat Yerli says game was running on Nintendo's new console, but lack of EA-Nintendo business drive killed the project.
Crysis 3 for Wii U was up and running, but it was not meant to be. Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli explained to VentureBeat that a lack of Electronic Arts-Nintendo business drive ultimately killed the project.
"We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U," Yerli said. "We were very close to launching it. But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn’t launch on the Wii U ourselves--we don’t have a publishing license--Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die."
Crysis 3 was never a sure thing for release on the Wii U. In May 2012, Crytek director of creative development Rasmus Hoejengaard said there was "not a fat chance" that Crysis 3 would ever ship for the Wii U.
Yerli recently described Crysis 3 as Crytek's "masterpiece." He claimed the game game is technically and creatively superior to past entries, but said the project took a critical hit due to gamer "fatigue," among other things.

not played it yet but i've always loved far cry and crysis 1. not a huge fan of crysis two or far cry 2....i'll prob get flamed for this but i HATE sand box crap - just usher me along to the next firefight PLEASE i do NOT want to wander around on my own looking for something to do. I get LOST and bored very easily :) i know i am a disgrace in the gaming community but....sorry
@Ledah ah no its due to a fact that EA was being greedy and trying to have nintendo merge the wii u online service with origin but nintendo said no cause origin has soo many flaws and issues and not many people like origin and probably EA would of had more control over the online service on the wii u which its doing fine without EA dirty hands on miiverse
Gotta love Nintendo's attitude towards 3rd Party developers / publishers when it comes to providing 3rd party games for their beloved platform.
Nintendo are notoriously difficult to work with.
This will be their undoing!
I wish Crysis would die, most overated piece of toss I've ever played.
Ah no actually that was Dragon Age 2 but I try to forget that exists.
The irrefutable fact is that the Wii U was doomed before it even came out, no games, no console. Plus the PS4 and the next Xbox are coming, I'd rather see what they have to offer. I have a Wii U and it's just collecting dust in my closet. Good I got it as a gift!
@sergiodoom The Wii U will be fine when Legend of Zelda and Super Smash Bros comes out.
@sergiodoom Exactly, the bad thing about the WiiU is that is barely as powerful as the current generation which is and will be it's downfall when the next generation hits.
" But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that."
According to the above statement, I take it that the guy can't spell it out the way human being can easily understand. Any idea on what that could be all about, anybody?
@jark888 Even though it is marked as a rumor, this has been circling the web for a long time.
It seems that EA was afraid of not selling well enough and asked money to Nintendo, which was denied. As a matter of fact, EA is so averse to risk nowadays that they are trashing their own games. Dead Space went down trying to follow Resident Evil into the battered action/adventure realm, disregarding what its fan base was looking for. In another hand, they are announcing their plan of including micro transactions wherever they can fit it, which is also not very popular among EA's fans. While I wrote this words, I realized I haven't brought an EA game for a while (Battlefield 3, I guess). Perhaps this is not a coincidence.
When I saw the pic for this article I got excited because it looks like a customised stormtrooper. I could go for a new Republic Commando style SW shooter.
The WII U will suffer the same fate as the Dreamcast. Only difference is the Dreamcast actually had amazing games.

@ABEzilla116 The Dc plays copied games straight out of the box! My housemate picked one up and couldn't find copies of certain games - so just downloaded them and burnt them to CDR's - unreal how easy Sega made it for pirates!!!!
@RadPro no stick for you
@RadPro and the dreamcast can play super nintendo and nes games. no really it can that wasnt even sarcasm. i have donkey kong country and killer instinct for mine
The Big Reason Nintendo Wii U Fail it current generation Same Xbox 360 & Ps3 Generation
Not Only The Graphics it's laggy not even always 60+ fps!
But I don't Hate Nintendo Cause this is the best Nintendo yet!
@Wahab_MinSeo the thing is a generation isn't based on power the fact of the matter is that the Wii U is the successor to the Wii so it's a 8th generation console same as the PS4 and Nextbox, but i do agree that it will lag behind the PS4 and Nextbox because of the power difference but then again Nintendo do such a great job on their first party games it's worth owning just for them (thinking HD Zelda here)
also on topic what's the betting crysis 3 Wii U was cancelled because EA has been bad mouthing Nintendo lately that's also probably why Mass Effect 3 isn't getting anymore DLC on the Wii U
@MajinSquall But Wii U still has the current generation Same Xbox 360 & Ps3 Generation
it's not going to see new things like PS4 & next Microsoft console!
@MajinSquall @Wahab_MinSeo Nintendo need their first party games to really push the envelope and they need them hitting the shelves before the PS4 does. Nintendo have been falling behind when it comes to gaming trends and innovation. They don't realise this because they've been getting mass sales from the softcore gaming community, but now they're trying to commit to hardcore gamers without knowing what that commitment requires.
It doesn't help that the Wii U can't even secure third party games. Forget the over-rated crap that is Crysis3. They can't get titles like Far Cry 3, or Tomb Raider, or Metal Gear Rising. What's really going to kill Nintendo is their inability to relate to new gamers. They seriously believe that they can rely on nostalgia and consumer loyalty to their brand as a business model.
@Wahab_MinSeo I can do with either the sony or xbox console, I have had both and one or the other more than once. I even gave my wii to my niece once. But, nintendo will have imo better exclusives than the other two systems. No halo ok lots of shooters. No god of war, well maybe another darksiders then. But, only one zelda, only one mario, and I'm a fool for the nostalgic. I even like old appliances that are dangerous and older than me, for their style.
I really want to play Crysis 3 but I don't have a DX11 graphics card. I could get it on console but I know it wouldn't be as good. Here's hoping they add support for DX10.
I like how people comment that it's the bad Wii U sales.... and how it's a dead system.... And it has nothing to do With Nintendo not making a contract with EA to release the game or anything.... it's all the systems fault.....
@InFI_Chronos it can , but they don't!
@InFI_Chronos right now a lot more than the next xbox or ps4. It also being a nintendo console seems to be favored by kids more. They aren't wanting to play my xbox. But, nintendo really needs to try and do a better job, I'm not impressed. By the same token, their isn't a new game that has came out in the last couple of months or next few that I need to have. If you can't put it on my new system, I will play some wii games I missed while playing other systems. Just my view. Actually been playing super nintendo, I never beat yoshi's island, but now the cart is not working doh.
@Orvell @InFI_Chronos stop lying yourself and us anymore...Wii U is one of the bigest Fails in thet company and probably 1 of the bigest in console history... that console died before even born
@angeloponekad how about stop being a @$$ troll and by the way wii u has a huge lineup of games coming this year and next year in a few weeks monster hunter ultimate, lego city undercover and need for speed hits stores and by the way the developer that made need for speed most wanted has said wii u version is far more superior then the 360 and ps3 versions just to let u know troll
And then when the PS4 or next XBox have similar struggles out of the gate, idiots like you will be like "Give it time! Don't worry, it'll be great! We're not being hypocrites!"
@angeloponekad i think Nintendos biggest ever fail was the Virtual Boy, it was probably the biggest fail in video game history too
