Valve confirms closed testing for Half-Life-based multiplayer FPS reboot has been pushed to new, undetermined date.
Valve doesn't exactly have a reputation for delivering games on time, and it appears as if the beta for its Counter-Strike update will do nothing to change that. Speaking with Counter-Strike: Source professional players Kyle "Ksharp" Miller and Ronald "Rambo" Kim, Valve writer Chet Faliszek confirmed that the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta test has been delayed.
Scheduled to begin in October, the beta was pushed back after Valve collected feedback from professional Counter-Strike gamers. Faliszek did not provide an updated release date for the beta, nor did he indicate whether the game was still on track to hit its early 2012 release window.
"They gave us a lot of feedback that was obvious, things that we should get in the game before we release [the beta], otherwise we're going to be getting a lot of bug reports or a lot of feedback that would just be redundant," he said.
As for the beta itself, Faliszek said that the original invite size will be about 10,000 people, a number that will gradually increase as Valve continues to test server infrastructure and scalability.
"The biggest thing of those first 10,000 is we have to look at percentage of crashes," he continued. "You can argue with us on bullet-spray patterns and all kind of things, but crashes? There's really no argument for that. It shouldn't be happening." Faliszek went on to note that the beta will eventually enter an open beta phase, where "there will be no barrier to entry."
As for when the beta will end, Faliszek said Valve will ship the game when the community says it's ready. "We have no mandate from anybody of when we have to ship this," he said. "So we're more than happy to just keep working on this 'til it's ready to ship. By the end of this, everyone will be playing the game--it will be the released game that you're just playing. Then, at some point, we'll say, 'OK we're going to release it.'"

Counter Strike is the best shooter game no doubt, but I've waited so long and have heard nothing about Half-Life 2: Episode 3.
Will the 360 be getting a version of Counter-Strike, or is it just PC?I know it says PC/360/PS3 by the game in the upper right hand corner, but I haven't read any announcements that it was actually coming to consoles. Hopefully so. I enjoyed Counter-Strike on the Xbox, even though it was a bit old when released on that platform.
Oh man, if this does come out, I'm totally getting in on this game again. Only game that could compare was good old SOCOM 2, but CS is more fast paced.
I dont mind waiting for a good, finished product that doesnt need day-one patch and million others after it to properly work. "We have no mandate from anybody of when we have to ship this,so we're more than happy to just keep working on this 'til it's ready to ship." Thats why I love and respect Valve so much,in this age where greed ruins everything,Valve stands tall to show us how caring about your consumers still pays off.A lot.Keep up the great work,Valve :)

Counter-Strike, along with any of Valve's shooters, are pretty much the only FPS's I've ever enjoyed. CoD and BF never did anything for me. I'm glad CS is making a return! Not surprised about the delay, however. It is Valve after all, but that just means quality!
The first two posts on this story crack me up. I'd take Counterstrike any day over 95% of shooters out there.
Well this wont happenig if they got another studio. Thumbs up if you agree that value should get another buliding 1 not enough.
@foxrock66 No,build it yourself,Alienware is a rip-off,way overpriced. You can get a PC that Maxes out everything for much less.If you cant build it yourself, there are many sites around the Internet that can help you.Or just find someone experienced with that sort of stuff...
I can't wait for this. And hopefully, if you buy it for one you'll get it for the other. Isn't Minecraft gonna be like that?
"We have no mandate from anybody of when we have to ship this" That's why I love you valve :), quality.
Was hoping for 360 cross platform as my PC will likely need upgraded before I can move from source to this. Oh well. Time to get that Alienware I guess
@Evenios That's why they are doing this. To renew the game. They are adding new weapons, maps, and modes.
Valve's QA testing is unparalled. And so is their unstable schedule... We'll wait, we're used to it.
