Two of Rhode Island's finest under investigation for jumping launch-day queue of gamers waiting for hard-to-find console.
Gamers were willing to do almost anything to get a PlayStation 3 on November 17, the day the system debuted in North America. Some camped outside of stores for days, some resorted to crime, and some may have tried to use their stance as officers of the law to get their hands on a PS3.
The Associated Press is reporting that two Rhode Island police officers are currently under investigation for cutting into a line of gamers waiting to purchase the PS3 on launch day.
The two unnamed police officers were part of a group of seven who were permitted to jump ahead to the front of the line by two security guards. One of the officers claims to have done nothing wrong.
His police chief disagrees. "We think he did something very wrong," Providence Police Chief Dean Esserman told the AP. "He's been identified and he's going to be disciplined."
Both officers are currently under investigation by their departments for their actions, but no specifics into disciplinary action have yet been discussed.
The two security guards who let the group cut the line have been fired.
stupid cops. now that its well known that the ps3 is a flop i wonder if they really think all that was worth it. after all had they waited a few weeks later they would see that the unwanted ps3 is in abundant supply.
This is to TWalsh3378 and JFreezy02. For starters I am not asian and I hate honda's, I like American Muscle cars and HondaHunterTA means Honda Hunter "TRANS AM". You know the muscle car by Pontiac. I would search out any Honda that the driver thought was fast and prove it wasn't. (HUNTING HONDA'S) can you wrap your brain around that? I haven't even looked at this site for three days. You got butt hurt and attempted to respond to my comments and since I don't respond again you think I'm scared? No just busy. I am not some wimp that gets offended whenever somone puts me down. If you think that kicking the **** out of a cop gets you on the news than you really are sheltered. Think about how many times you've seen someone outrun the cops in a news program (and ACTUALLY get away) or someone win a fight with a cop on "COPS". YOU NEVER SEE IT DO YOU? Do you honestly think it never happens? They don't want the public thinking that it is even possible to get away or win a fight with them. If they keep everyone scared, there is less of a chance of people rebelling and the cops getting injured. Actually an interesting statistic is that 40% of the people that run from the cops initially get away, and 25% never get caught. I have outran cops in my car and on foot more times than I can count and I was even in a high speed chase once and got away. I have never tried to run and been caught. It's about knowing when to and when not to run. And for God's sake when I said I made the cop piss in his pants, I didn't mean literally, are you that thick? I meant he backed down and waited for back up to arrive and when back up got there they were all still too afraid to do anything I was putting them down and B***hing them out yet no one attempted to arrest me. At the time I owned a Trans Am convertable and it looked great and the cop pulled me over for flicking a cigarette butt out of my window. I knew as soon as he came up to the window that he was just jealous since he couldn't afford it. (I know this is true because after the whole thing with court and everything was over he and I talked frankly a few times, he even let me out of tickets on two seperate occations, and he always said how he wished he had a car like mine but his wife wouldn't let him because of their income). And I didn't get the fine for assault because I did not fight him. I have fought cops when I was younger and they are not as indestructable as you think. I have been friends with cops before and we even trained some in our martial arts class. But my whole point is that you should not stand up for cops under any circumstances. They are all corrupt to an extent and you might as well rejoice for all of the injustice around the world if you feel the need to defend them. I know that ALL of the cops aren't bad, but as an example not all milk that is past the expiration date will make you sick but I'll just assume it's sour and save myself the sickness. In my book for cops, its guilty until proven innocent. What all of your comments tell me, is that you are nothing but sheep, and that you feel scared of the world around you, so the police are your safety blanket. The idea of them protecting you makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, and you can't let anyone change your opinion or you'll lose sleep at night. As I said before...grow a pair.
i would of opened a can of Whoop-A** cut in front me...yousa better packing PS3 BUSTA!..LOLOLOLOLOLOL
im from rhode island and this was mad funny to hear, had to be in RI the smallest state but the most currupt, we dont give a f*ck
Why is there still an investigation? Why are the accused unnamed? Why were the security guards fired? Either they did it, or they didn't. The store likely has camera's, not to mention a horde of witnesses. These guys aren't underage rape victims in a celebrity trial, so I don't understand why we can't have their identities. And heaven forbid a security guard not bar passage to an officer of the law. Seriously, what were they supposed to do when they saw the cops picking up PS3s, forcibly remove them? So much craziness. . .and over a console that's more hype than substance.
Typical cops. I actually heard a cop say one time that the streets were his and he let people drive on them if they behave themselves. I hate cops and regularly get bashed by people talking about how cops risk their lives every day for little pay for say "who are you gonna call when someone breaks into your house?". A little perspective please, cops know the risks and pay when they take the job. Why do they think they give them guns? Like a friend of mine said, cops are just the guys who were worms in high school looking to get a little state sponsored revenge. And as far as calling the cops, ya only do that so the insurance company will pay up; eventually...maybe. Now, I know what most of you are thinking...but what about all the good cops? Yeah, what about all the good cops? Why don't they step up? I know I would be massively upset if I was a good cop and these yahoos, or others like them, were making me look bad. But do they, no pun intended, self-police? No, they just cover up with their "code of silence" and protect their "brothers". So the next time you see a cop speed by you at 50 m.p.h. in a 35 zone or turn on his lights to run a red light ask yourself who exactly is he serving or protecting?
If a person breaks into my house I'd want a cop to show up to bust him and save my family... and officers would do it or at least try. I'm thankful for that. There's also a few cops that would abuse their power to get a video game system... pathetic. So what are we going to do about it????? I guess talk about it on the Gamespot mess. board. That'll show 'em..lol
I doubt he was a cop. People usually put "Well, I'm a ____" to add some pseudo-validity to something that they would get flamed and/or criticized for without saying it.
The one cop who said that he did nothing wrong in this article should be evaluated by a psychologist. Abusing your power and trampling on the time-honored first come, first served traditions of a free society could be a symptom of some mental instability. Or a superiority complex. Either way, a lot of cops out there should learn to treat their fellow man like they themselves would like to be treated.
From what I got is that the police officers didnt bump the line but the security guards allowed them to bump the line or something. so I guess aslong as the cops didnt like use their being an cop to skip the line, instead using an buddy is better. not right but better. But hey who are we to judge the details arent very clear.
They are being diciplined for using their power and influence to unfairly deny others and for material gain.
"fgamer This is rediculous, why are they trying to discipline officers for cutting in front of a line?" Uh, because police aren't allowed use their position to receive 3rd party money or benefits? Getting a free donut is a generalized gift. Saying, "I'm a cop, let me through" is quite another matter.
good to know the police chief has his priorities straight... its not like theres anything more important than 2 officers being allowed by security to go ahead in line.... put all murder investigations on hold.....................the people who should have been dealt with were..... if a security guard at a store tell me come cut in front... im doing it....
This is rediculous, why are they trying to discipline officers for cutting in front of a line? I mean is this what this world has come to? This story sounds very fishy I dunno if I believe this. If it is true the police chief should be fired for even trying to discipline a officer for this petty non crime. Why not discipline the officers who go out and shoot people in the head for holding a wallet.
TWalsh3378: So, your argument is that because police do so much "good", they should be allowed to abuse their power every once and a while. That's like saying because Superman saves the world so much, he should be allowed to look at women using his X-ray vision every once and a while. What a fine citizen you are . It doesn't matter how many good things you did. When you do something bad, that's the only thing that ends up counting.
The amazing thing is that something similar happened at a store I went to. An officer was turning people away who showed up the morning of the event. He ultimately would up buying the last available console. Jackass.
i say we should respect cops, cause i know a few good ones, and that not all cops are currupt. all most of them want is to do thier job.
Autolycus spoke to me privately and he does not seem a jackass like hondahunterta so lay off him. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and everyone else must respect that. Unless they are generalizing A$$holes like Hitler or the KKK Grand Wizards or Al Zawahari of Al Qaeda, then there comments should be completely ignored. But we all know CNN and all the other news outlets wouldn't rather give these guys the podium for ratings than people who try to bring us together. So just think for yourselves and think about each situation from both sides.
Unfortunatly, this is very true. I have also been pulled over for no apparent reason!!! I was driving my 1971 Chevy Chevelle (which I have restored to near perfect condition hehe) and I have seat belts that go just across my waist. The cop pulled me over because he thought I wasn't wearing my seat belt. When he saw I was wearing it, he quickly tryed to find something else wrong to give me a ticket so he didn't look like an idiot!!! I was sooooooo pissed!!! Hell yes SOME cops have authority complex problems, hell yes SOME cops are dicks, but saying ALL of them do is what is not true.
hondahunterta, your a BSer. cops arent wussy's. they'd break you in two. and besides...whats that have to do with the news artical? They broke the law. a law that is frowned on way back in elementary school. you cut....you get cut.
eh i took so much time to write it i might as well just put it in here -------- I am sorry you take my comment so personally, but do you want to know something. I have NEVER drank, smoked or done any drugs in my entire life. I give random drunk people rides home so they dont drive drunk(seriously). I give strangers walking in the cold rides home because I care and do you have any idea how many times i have been pulled over? Take a guess.....81 times. NO JOKE thats within 10 years. I've been pulled over because my "car is yellow and its 2:30 in the morning. that just screams trouble, please step out of the vehicle". I have been asked if i have drugs on me over 75% of the time. I've been asked if they can search my car, which no cause, over 75% of the time. I have seen my best friend go from naturing person to becoming a hateful cop along with 95% of the force that he works with(Milwaukee, WI). I have seen him stop going to area of the city because there too many black people. I have seen him and his buddies harrass other black people because they are in a group. Am I saying that all cops are evil? Of course not. What I am saying is that the system for hiring police is severly backwards. Nobody seems to understand that A LOT(not all) of the people that apply for those positions need to feel the power and be in control. On top of all of that, you see more and more stories about police officers abusing their power. Again, I am not saying that all police are bad. There is obviously a change happening with the police. Its becoming more of a Police vs. Public and more and more police are abusing their powers. And for the record, I have gone to police chiefs, superiors, etc and guess where it gets me know. KNOW WHERE. Cops are a family and they protect eachother with their lives, if you think a pathetic complaint of their conduct is going to do any good, im sorry, its not. I used to have a lot of respect for police until they labeled me as a criminal and drunk drug user because i was in a certain age group.Am I going to stop voicing my opinion? NEVER. Its the only tool, the public has left. I will not sit back and tell people what they want to hear. Is it sad that the good police that are actually there to protect the people are getting wrapped in my generalization? Of course, but thats the price they have to pay for the corrupt cops that abuse their power. Again, i mean no disrespect for you, but the more people that are aware, the more the "bad" cops know that they are being watched and they have rules to follow just like everyone else. Just because they have the cival authority to break the law, doesnt mean they can whenever they want.
hondahunterta, keep ur personal vendattas to urself please, this is a game forum...and fyi, barely any police officers are ill-minded like you
For the record i do agree with them and people should take responsibility for their actions... its the abuse of power that gets to me. Nobody is better then anybody else. we are all human and nothing makes you better then any other human
Oh and another thing, You made a cop piss his pants yet you only got a $1000 and 16 hours community service? I got more than that for possesion of a gram of pot so I am calling you out on your bull$hit. If you did something to threaten a police officer than that would definitly make the news which means its on the internet. Post us a link to your news article and I will apoligize for calling you a bull$hitter. Otherwise your full of $hit and I just called you out on it.
Ahhhhhh you've made him cry TWalsh3378. Give him some time to go tell his boyfriend about how he got B***H SLAPPED on the internet!!
Hey Hondahunterta, Are you serious? "Being a gamer used to mean being different and not just doing what mommy tells you, but it seems like nowadays gamers are a bunch of tree hugging hippies." ----Hondahunterta That comment might be the most embarrasing statement ever used in the English language. First of all, I wasn't offended because mommy told me to stand up for cops, I was offended because my cousin was killed by an illegal immigrant and then the rest of his illegal family tried to cover it up by reporting the car stolen. Oh and when we tried for the death penalty, a bunch of tree hugging hippies came and protested my familys case. So how you can compare me to tree hugging hippy is beyond recognition. In fact, maybe you should look up the definitions for conservative and liberal before you embarrass yourself some more. Then maybe you would learn that hippies tend to be anti-establishment hence making them liberal. Police are a product of establishment and people who tend to promote more police power are considered conservatives. You calling people who stand up for police hippies shows that you know absolutely nothing about this world and you might want to put down your controller and go back to school because it obvious that you never learned anything. And the fact that you have access to video games and the internet means that you probably aren't too poor which makes me believe your anti police statements are more fueled by 50 cent videos than your actual life. Maybe when you go back to school, you'll learn that people like 50 cent and the news profit off of negativity in the world and will always try to promote anti establishment views. Please think for yourself rather than thing the way your television tells you. You want one thought to think about? Say something crazy happens like our country gets invaded by another, whos going to come to your aid? 50 cent and all your favorite TV personalities? Or the police? Yea thats right don't forget to thank them afterwards. Stay in school, you need it.
Hondahunterta, just because a cop made a b***h out of you doesn't mean you gotta cry about it! And i'm sure your little asian self really made a cop pee his pants! YEAH RIGHT!!! What did you REALLY do, bite his ankles?? The cops I know are only cops because they know ignorant people like YOU are breeding and making the world worse!! Standing up for yourself is not what gets you a ticket, saying "I wasn't speeding" when you were clocked at 90mph is what gets you a ticket. Obviously YOU are the one scared of them because everything you do is a shining example of what an ignorant moron who breaks the law does. I'm not saying I have never broken a law, but I take responsibility for my actions and don't throw little b***h fits in front of a cop.
cops dont have the right to break the law whenever they see fit for their personal gain(emotionally or phyisically). And btw, small town cops have nothing to do, so if you people know small town cops, please keep your opinion to yourselfs. And yes we have all try to help someone along the way...
