Straight-to-DVD and Blu-ray World War II film based on Relic's game series starring Tom Sizemore and Neal McDonough arriving February 26.
The Company of Heroes movie has been moved up to a February 26 debut. The straight-to-DVD and Blu-ray film was previously expected to launch March 19.
Based on Relic's strategy game series (now owned by Sega), the film is skipping a theatrical release.
The Company of Heroes film may not have received much press, but it features a cast of Hollywood veterans. The film stars Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down), Neal McDonough (Flags of Our Fathers, Captain America: The First Avenger), Chad Collins (Lake Placid 2, Sniper: Reloaded), and Jurgen Prochnow (The Da Vinci Code, Das Boot).
The World War II-set Company of Heroes follows a band of American soldiers lost behind enemy lines during the Battle of the Bulge. The squad discovers Hitler's plans to create a superbomb and fights its way through Nazi Germany to foil the Fuhrer's plot.
Saw the movie, and it does have some groan-worthy eye-rolling moments, but overall it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. One thing (amongst others) which does irk me is that the Germans are often portrayed in these kinda movies as bumbling fools who can't shoot to save their own lives, and frequently miss their targets, whereas the Allies (US & British tough guy in the movie) seem to be crack marksmen who rarely miss AND can take out a room full of Nazis with one spray of bullets. Also, in the 'extras', the producer (?) talks about a Tiger tank prop in the movie, but it obviously wasn't a tiger tank that was used. Minor points, to be sure.
Brothers in Arms was SO much better! Wait for this movie in the 'new to weekly' section of your DvD store if you are really keen to see it.
LOL the soldiers in the back aren't even using the proper period weapons. One of them is holding an Enfield (wasnt even used by the US) and the other looks like a WW1 period Mauser rifle.
i hope Sega doesnt screw around with Relic and CoH.
id be interested to see if this movie is worth the effort
I bet it's stupid things like this that made THQ to go under. I don't see how this can be a good idea.Who would pay money for this?
Oh look yet another movie about American soldiers...I swear people who write scripts dont know that it wasn't just America Vs Germany >.>
I used to think Omaha beach was stealing all the WW2 spotlight. Now it looks like The Bulge is trying to be the battle everyone's making shows about.
Not all direct to video movies are bad. But they tend to be animated features from japan. Star Ship troopers invasion was awesome. This movie though will prob be bad.
"Ring Around the Rosie" pretty much sums up where Tom Sizemore's career is at the moment
Wait. Someone let Tom Sizemore in their movie?
Oh, I gotta see this.
The guys a total burnout among other things. I mean it's great if he finally got his head straight, but after Shooting Sizemore I don't believe he has the self esteem or self control to ever do such a thing. The guy was a total mess. He was even Diva-ing a low budget B horror movie.
Last I heard he was going to jail for a long time.
It was probably moved up to avoid coming out the same day as The Hobbit. Not that Company of Heroes is going to sell well, regardless.
A straight to dvd film adaptation of a 6 year old game, starring drug addict burnout tom sizemore.
why is this news-worthy?
You're late to the show, direct-to-DVD movie; there's already a "Company of Heroes" miniseries that's been around for a while, and it's called "Band of Brothers". D;
who is directing it and producing it? That is more important than who is in it. Knowing those two parties will allow me to predict if this makes it to theaters or the bargain bin at my local drugstore.
"Straight-to-DVD and Blu-ray World War II film based on Relic's game "
sounds good to me, although the game would be a MUCH better then the movie
Tom Sizemore? I thought he overdosed on obscurity a long time ago. Wait, my foreseeing senses are tingling: this movie will suck.
Man the last time I saw Jurgen Pronchnow in a film was when he played Captain Kirk in Uwe Bolls Masterpiece HOUSE OF THE DEAD. Pls for the love of god dont even see the film is not worth it,
