The graphics will be great, but will it limit the number of units you can have at once? Especially on lower end systems. Also its a long time to wait especially if the 2012 prophecy is true.
New EA studio adopts branding of RPG developer for latest title in long-running strategy series; Generals 2 being released in 2013, built on DICE's Frostbite 2 engine.
Back in February, Electronic Arts announced its new Command & Conquer studio, Victory Games, with Might and Magic co-creator Jon Van Canegham heading up the next PC installment in the series. Today, EA revealed a few new details about both the studio and its current project.
At the Spike Video Game Awards, EA revealed that Victory Games is now BioWare Victory, and the studio's current project is Command & Conquer: Generals 2. As a result of the rebranding, the PC-exclusive game also qualifies as the new BioWare project that had been teased in the weeks leading up to the VGAs. The game has been given a 2013 release window.
The game is set in a near future where global peace is a real possibility. However, with all the world's leaders attending a peace conference, a terrorist attack wipes out the entire cadre of politicians and diplomats, leaving nothing but each country's generals remaining to guide the world forward. Given their area of expertise, the generals quickly bring warfare back in vogue.
Originally released in 2003, the critically acclaimed Command & Conquer: Generals deviated from the series formula in a handful of aspects. Most notably, the game eschewed the full-motion video cutscenes and had very little emphasis on story.
Generals 2 will feature a single-player campaign told from a variety of vantage points, as well as an assortment of multiplayer modes. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's interview with BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka and BioWare Victory executive producer Jon Van Canegham.
looks kinda nice...hope they retain like the last westwood does n improved it abit...n not too close like red alert 3 or Tiberium 4..coz it sucks...lolx..imho.....just love the effect n all...but dint know how the gameplay gonna work...
I wish one thing though, please no more futuristic crap, add units like Wargames European Escalation have, good ol' tanks and bmps with correct camos, the way i see this is like they decided that tanks with shiny metallic and brightly displayed color is more practical as long as they can shoot particle missiles and triple explosive laser, and please, don't release the game before having a public test. Learning from other games and listen to fans will actually put games like these right back on track. But I hope this is not a wishful thinking.......
If this even smells remotely like C&C4 I will send a plethora of Tanya's and Commandos to EA....around the back where they don't see it coming...
This looks promising, and I think that EA is trying to convince the gamers that they can still make class AAA RTS games. I hope when it comes out, and satisfies the gamers, the gamers would accept the idea of EA making a new C&C tiberium game or remake the disappointing C&C4 (THAT IS IF EA DO COME UP TO THE IDEA OF LISTENING TO THE C&C FANS WORLDWIDE).
So that's gonna be 10 years after the original, and they anounced it 2 years before its release. They better not screw it up.
@hombreg1 hahahahahaha good old memories thanks for that! Took a couple of second to figure out what you were talking about until I noticed the GLA quote. It's been a while!
Oh EA, you make my choice so easy. Thanks, but keep your Origin Trojan DRM. "I was once buying EA games, but then they shot themselves with Origin in the knee." I'm done with EA (and Ubisoft).
looks more like C&C Tiberium than Generals, HOPEFULLY EA will listen to the fans this time and not screw it up
NO NO NO JUST NO, EA needs to get the freaking hand off C&C before they destroy more then they already have. @Renzokukenexe Westwood did that after the first C&C game EA spit out that was trash.
@Zevvion all I have to do is look at the other half dozen attempts in the last 5-6 years ... all failures. Doesn't look good.
@ColdfireTrilogy I'm afraid of that too. Even though I'm a console gamer mostly, I still regularly play on PC for a number of reasons and different games like RTS games and Generals is my favorite RTS of all time. However, it doesn't necessarily have to be downgraded in order to work well on consoles. Remember Supreme Commander? SupCom2 was criticized for being too focussed on console gamers right? Everyone wished it was like the first SupCom correct? Many people do not realized the first SupCom was actually also available on Xbox 360 and it actually played really well. I've played it on there (as well as PC) and for a console, it had really good controls. As I played it on console first and later PC, I was actually faster on consoles with orders and build ques at first than on PC. It took me a while before I was much faster on PC, so that's saying something. My point is, even though Generals 2 will probably come to consoles, it doesn't have to mean it will be watered down on PC and it would certainly not be an excuse. I'll give SupCom as an example. While obviously the PC version was superior, it's still the best RTS game done on consoles in my opinion.
Will be tailored to fit the consoles (yet unannounced to keep PC fans from /quitting right away), will be a watered down husk of its original self. Don't look at me weirdly when I say, "calllllleedddd itttttttt"
even though this is great news, i think they should have waited untill it was just a tad closer to being released, its basicly 2 years away!!!! there was no point in releasing anything on it at all yet in my opinion.
While I would love nothing more than to play a good C&C game like back in the day I think this is just a travesty. 1) Bioware? While EA is clearly doing this just for the bioware recognition this is in no way a good thing. However it's not necessarily a bad thing either. 2) Generals 2? Sorry for the people who liked it but the Generals series was the worst of the 3. Should have just left it buried and came up with a new series. Hey but on a good note, it looks pretty
@NemesisLives dude. generals pood and farted all over the latter command and conquers. it's the best thing since red alert 2.
@JasPlun You don't give a damn about storytelling in this kinda games? And there goes the full Warcraft story...
Just to let people know. the Bioware team making this isn't the real "bioware", the original bioware team is from alberta, canada. EA screwed Bioware into 8 smaller bioware teams. So EA can technically use "from bioware".
I have a question, why is every studio that EA picks up now or just small being merged into Bioware? Do they have no confidence in these studios to exist on their own merit or what?
Hooray for Generals 2! I am happy that there is no console versions, rts genre games are made for mouse+keyboard tandem. P.S. Halo Wars was piece of junk.
While the video alone is enough to have my inner child running round the room like a nut case doing cartwheels my adult self is a bit more cautious after Cnc3, red alert 3 and the super terrible cnc4 Slapping bioware on a studio doesn't make them THE bioware and it certainly doesn't make them Westwood but based off this video and the fact it runs on frostbite (looks amazing!!!) and there's no chance of it being a console port I'm rather hopefull
so they're using Frostbyte2 for a rts? I'd like to know what kind of rig is required to run this smooth
C&C in the hands of Bioware? Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and get my hopes up. This could be the start of something beautiful.
Good to hear that C&C will; be back. Lets see what they can do. However, again not for the Xbox 360 that is not nice.
I'm guessing it's gonna be something like this: http://www.321pic.com/images/funny-military-13.jpg
@gplayer5 (But why the wait until 2013? ) Because the game then would be rushed unless you want Generals II to be another failure like Command & Conquer 4 was a epic failure? surely you dont want that to happen again right?
omg command and conquer generals with the frostbyte 2 engine? Truly epic. Generals is probably the most played CNC game for me. But why the wait until 2013?
wow, never thought a c&c rts would sorta look like BF3. im gonna keep my eye on this one, enjoyed the last and its expansion zero hr.
C & C has been real hit and miss with the last few realeases if you ask me. Red Alert 2 was my favorite of all time. Red Alert 3 was terrible IMO. Tiberiem wars 3 was pretty good. bought on PC then 360 when it came out. I never played 4 but I hear long time fans hated it.
Now... A C&C game being made by a new bioware sub-company with Might and Magic's co-creator using DICE's frostbite engine? I.....didn't expect that.
I don't know why they even bothered to show that teaser. But I do find it interesting that EA would make a PC exclusive, that's not like them at all. I figure they would find someway to stuff this on consoles.
Great !, Always loved C&C (Apart from 4....have to keep a backup of my save for that) and Generals is one of my most played apart from Red Alert. Bioware has a great rep and i think they stand a good chance at this, time will ultimately tell tho.....all i wanna see is another war tho >: D
Hey F'n Yeah (I loved Generals/Zero Hour), I hope with the integration of the Frostbite 2.0 engine we'll have truly destructible battlefields, (aka the crazy *#&$ that happened while playing Company of Heroes kind of destructible battlefields). Really looking forward to this, after being disappointed with C&C4, that's impressive lol. Keep it clean - Paladin Tank
