I think they should make a civilization revolution 2, hands down civilization revolution for ps3 iz one the best games of all time in my opinion
Firaxis said to have canned original installments in Sid Meier's classic franchises, but fresh IP powered by Unreal Engine 3 on PC, consoles may be en route.
Source: The Twitter feed of Internet sleuth Superannuation.
What we heard: Firaxis' Civilization franchise is one of the most enduring and lucrative in the industry. Still, it appears as if not every installment makes it to the finish line.
Yesterday, Superannuation claimed to have unearthed the online resume of a character artist who currently works at Firaxis and who indicated that Civilization Revolution 2 was in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC until 2008. As of press time, the resume has been removed from the artist's website.
If true, the game would have been a sequel to Firaxis' first attempt at bringing the Civilization franchise to consoles in nearly 10 years. That game launched to a strong critical reception in 2008, and Take-Two subsequently indicated that it was a commercial success as part of the game's most relevant quarterly earnings report.
Unfortunately, the developer offered no indication as to the fate of Civilization Revolution 2.
That's not the only mystery brewing at Firaxis, as it turns out. Superannuation also uncovered the studio's plans to create "an unannounced AAA strategy title for PC, XBox 360, and PS3 using Unreal Engine 3." The news comes by way of the online resume of a former Firaxis employee, a Google cache version of which is still viewable.
As for the nature of that big-budget strategy title, Superannuation took an uncharacteristic step by wading into the rumor-mill pool without supporting evidence. In a subsequent Twitter update, Superannuation said, "Rumor time: Apparently this Firaxis game is a new IP--not Pirates 2--slated for release next year," later suggesting that a new Pirates game had been canceled.
The official story: "2K does not comment on rumors or speculation."--A 2K Games representative.
Bogus or not bogus: Not bogus that Firaxis is working on a new AAA strategy game for PC and consoles. Given Superannuation's track record of reliable finds, it also seems likely that development on Civ Revolution 2 has been halted. However, it's unclear where Superannuation's information regarding a new property from Firaxis and a canceled Pirates game came from, and the information should be regarded with a suitable amount of skepticism.
Hi everyone, The original Sid Meier's Pirates! is by far my favorite game of all times.. I find the 2004 version is way too Disney style and would really love a remake more like the original version.. Arrrg! See you around the tavern mate!! :-))
I would have bought Civ 2 On 3ds in a heart beat. I got it for 350, and 2 for the DS just to support the effort I enjoyed it that much. Been a fan since Civ 2 PC, still have that one also.
I dont have a PC that can operate Civ 5 or Pirates, so im depending they release Revolution 2 for my ps3
Civ Rev disappointed me a bit at first sight, as I found the guides annoying and the graphics a bit too cartoonish, but after playing for 5 days, I just disabled the guids and I saw that the graphicstyle actually fits it well. I loved the game and I played it until Civ V came out.
Civ Rev had a lot of potential. I was really looking forward to a second installment. My buddy and I had a lot of fun eliminating the AIs and then having a massive war between our two superpowers.
dammit...i had no idea a sequel was coming but had hopes for it..now i hear it was in the works and was cancelled...sad
big deal, I love the civ games but I could not believe how dumbed down revolution was, I would rather play my ps1 copy of civ 2 then that useless waste of time, space, and money. So good don't make another piece of trash like that, if you want to go to consoles, make a real game.
Awwww no Pirates 2? :( :( :( very sad. It was a brilliant game that.... and @Darkreaper_1 - totally agree with you on that. Not that I didn't enjoy Civ Rev for what it was, it just shouldn't have encroached on what the original PC titles were. Civ Rev was simplified out of necessity for both console controls and the type of audience. To merge those qualities with the mainstream PC title was a bit of a silly idea I think.... Civ on PC should absolutely be complex and by nature harder to play and understand... it's in the understanding you eventually reach with it that makes you a damn good player at it.
I think Civ Revolution had a massive effect on Civ 5 for the PC and basically ruined it. So i'm glad Civ Rev 2 has been binned and hopefully Civ 6 (when it comes out) will go back to the old Civ 4 style of gameplay and won't have so much stripped away from what made the game great in the first place.
Civ Rev is still a brilliant game, It's easy to get lost in, as for Pirates, I never played the original but I did play the remake from a few years ago and it was awesome, another game that sucked me right in.
My honest opinion is that Firaxis should keep their dumbed down Civ versions like Civ V and specially the console version. This is a type of game which absolutely doesnt belong on consoles mainly because of the atrocious control scheme. I mean a play FIFA or super meat boy with my x360 gamepad but do you want to play a complex game with tons of options with a 4(main button 10 together i think) gamepad and sluggish analog sticks?i guess anyone who is not insane would answer a big NO. the sad truth is that because of GREED many games that are impossible to control reasonable with a gamepad are brought to consoles. and of course they are completely dumbed down and stripped of most features so you can control them with controls that were ment originally mostly for a super mario game etc. of course there is also the tiny problem of how the big publishers see the console masses. I mean of course their "gaming intelligence". i dont need to talk about that. anyone can answer this by looking at modern trends in gaming where everything is so called "streamlined" for consoles which is an another word for dumbing down to 1 button mashing.they even make it sound like it is something good. about Civ. I still didnt get to play Civ V. like usual the reviews are high score(sometimes you have to wonder whether a review is paid off or the reviewer is an idiot) but people are sad how stripped this game is. i wanted to try it but i am scared i will hate it after Civ IV
Rather than a sequel to Civ: Rev I wouldn't mind some updates and perhaps even DLC for the original game.
Civ:Rev wasn't that great, and before they make a sequel they should fix Civ5!! I bought the game thinking it would offer a true Civ experience, as in turnbased multiplayer (hotseat). I want to play Civ5 with my friends before I buy another game from them! And cancelling pirates 2 for Civ:Rev? That is horrible, even the xbox version of the pirates! remake was better then Civ:Rev for consoles.
To hell with Civ Rev, I want more Pirates! Although I didn't really like the art style, the last one was very fun to play, and probably made tons of money with all the ports.
Good. While I'm not happy about another console Firaxis title, I'm glad it's at least (likely) not Revolution 2. There's no excuse to play civ on consoles, you could run Civ4 on some of the crappiest machines, and it's the best one (with BtS anyway).
Ugh! Civ V didn't even deliver and they wanna make a console game instead of bettering Civ V? Fail 2K, fail Firaxis
If not bogus, this makes me really sad. No drugs will create my experience CivRev of a war hungry Gandhi, Queen Elizabeth chucking rocks at me, and the primitive Washington invading from the North with me Genghis Khan not having any of it, tank rush everyone except Japan. I saved the nuke for them for irony. Really wish they get CivRev to facebook, I would die.
"We don't comment on rumors or speculation" basically means "yeah, but we don't want to admit that yet." I don't think I've ever seen that line used in any other case.
It's a shame that there isn't a Civ Rev 2 coming out anytime soon. I lost a lot of hours playing that game, and would gladly lose a lot more on a sequel.
Crap, we can only hope it's cancelled. Ironically, I've been wanting to launch Civ V all week and I simply fail to see the point with no diplomacy or even a way to see the disposition of other cultures. It's almost like trying to get issues resolved in Congress...nobody listens, nobody cares. Nations trade with me during the day and fling spears at me during the night. As far as the *even-more-scaled-down* console series of Revolutions...just don't do it. Retract. Stop. Think. Rebuild. This franchise needs steroids before you even think of releasing a Kool-Aid Lite version. Note to Firaxis: Get back to your roots and stop defying the PC community which put y'ass on the map in the first place!
Man I hope they dont get rid of Pirates 2, as formulaic as the original was it was still a boat load of fun (pardon the inadvertent pirate pun.)
I'd like a new Pirates. I liked the last Pirates, but it was missing the addictive factor of the previous games somehow.
I love Civilization Revolution! Sorry to hear that there's not going to be a sequel, but glad that Firaxis is still going to continue to show consoles some love.
If it's the same one-unit-per-tile crap like Civ 5 was, I won't buy it. I'm sorry I wasted my money on Civ 5.
NO NOT PIRATES2!!!!! The first one's scope was small and the repetition was clearly there, but it still was one of the best games I have ever played. If they had expanded it and made a sequel..... omg.
