Sid Meier's classic world-conquering strategy game fomenting world domination on the 360, PS3, DS this summer.
January closed out on a low note for fans of Sid Meier's acclaimed world-conquering Civilization series. Though the insurgency remained a go for Civilization Revolution on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo DS, the Wii version of the game was indefinitely furloughed, with neither 2K Games nor developer Firaxis offering sound justification as to why.
One possible explanation could be 2K Games' realization that the Wii version of the game wouldn't hit the publisher's desired ship date. If so, it appears that decision was taken to the wire, as 2K Games today revealed Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution would commence its world domination for the Xbox 360, PS3, and DS on June 3.
Described by the legendary Sid Meier himself as "the game I've always wanted to make," Revolution offers the same style of addictive "just one more turn" gameplay that made the series famous. The game will feature 16 unique civilizations, all with a variety of famous historical figures to play as or against, as well as a more streamlined time scale to give the game a more action-based feel.
Additionally, Revolution will come packed in with online multiplayer modes that offer team battles, head-to-head battles, and free-for-all matches, as well as automatching, ranked games, leaderboards, achievements, and downloadable content. I was really excited about this til I saw there was no PC version. I won't be buying it... unless they put it out for the PC.
ok, burnout paradise in jan, gta in april (probably april 2009 tho), this in june, spore, littlebigplanet, metal gear solid all in sep! that'll last me!
First Super Smash Bros in March, then GTA 4 (hopefully) in April, Wii Fit in May and then Civ: Revolution in June...So much to look foward to!
well as my last msg was deleated for aparently flaming ! I will keep this short ! JUNE !! arrrggghhh
"Will come packed in with online multiplayer." Um...well I hope so. What's the alternative, paying for a multiplayer add-on?
I'm very excited for this game :) Hopefully the controls win us over in the console setup... as for DS, I'm not sure what to expect with that...
If this is the game that Sid has always wanted to make, then it looks like my civ experience will be moving to the console on June 3. After that statement, i'm expecting huge things with this civ installment.
I'm bummed the game is not being released for the Wii at the same time. I'll just continue playing Civ on the PC until it is...
i was gonna say the same redmage. if you are not gonna actualy give us something NEW, which by the titles i was hoping for a nice twist to the franchise, than dont bother remaking the same game (no matter how legendary) for the 15th time. instead a nice Pirates sequel, which i am sure ppl want to see more than this but Sid is getting old and bit blindsided (j/k sid!), would be great. hell maybe even a revamped sim something. w/e as long as it is not recycled crap!!!
Was looking forward to it for the Wii... but darn. And head-to-head turn based... Sorry, head to head for 16 hours is hardly what I call interesting.
why the hell did they take this game off the wii. If you want a true civ expirience on a console, you at LEAST do it with the one that has a controller similar to a mouse.
I've always wanted to try these games out (I'm not a big Strat gamer), and it looks like I've been given three more reasons why I should. :)
I still dont know how Sid Meier thinks the console peasants will be able to handle such a sophisticated game. Unless he dumbed it down severely. While I agree to a point, perhaps you should be glad that (assuming you have a DS), you can now take Civ with you wherever you go. :)
Sid Meier is a genius and he's never let me down. Not even with Simgolf which I was skeptical of at first but then I really enjoyed it. The only words that concern me are "a more streamlined time scale to give the game a more action-based feel." I guess we'll just have to trust in Sid. I'd like to see him revisit Covert Action next, that was a cool game way ahead of its time.
I suppose they won't think to include keyboard and mouse support on the PS3? IMO it would surely enhance the experience.
I wonder if the consoles can speed up the computers' turns, rather than having to wait like on the pc.
Looking forward to seeing how this stacks up against Civ IV, which, IMO, replaced Civ III as the Greatest Game Ever Made.
