CES 2009: Hot and Cold at Capcom

It's not every day that you get to play a videogame on the side of a building. It was that enticing prospect that drove Ricardo and me to head to the sixth floor roof of Planet Hollywood on Friday night to attend Capcom's CES 2009 games event. While industry and press were in attendance, this was a community event, with hardcore fans of Resident Evil and Street Fighter in attendance to play the latest versions of their favorite series, as well as a handful of other Capcom titles.

The highlight of the evening was a massive projection setup that allowed two games of Resident Evil 5 to be literally played on the side of the Planet Hollywood hotel. I got a chance to check out the new level being shown off at the show, playing Sheva in a co-op match and staring up ten stories above me as I blasted T-virus victims and blew gas tankers to Kingdom Come. To be sure, even the biggest TVs on display at CES had nothing on this.

The only problem? The bone-chilling cold. Las Vegas may be known for its desert heat in the summer but, in the winter, it can get chilly and windy as hell. Combine those two and you've got conditions that made even die-hard Resident Evil fans looking to head indoors.

GameSpot's Ricardo Torres and Capcom's Seth Killian doing their best to stay warm, while RE5 plays several stories up in the background.

After an hour of braving the cold, the party moved indoors and down one floor to the London nightclub. With a full spread of food for Capcom community folks to enjoy, a DJ pumping tunes all night, and game stations running everything from Bionic Commando to Street Fighter IV, it was a great night for Capcom fans.

Capcom community members check out Street Fighter IV and the new SFIV arcade controllers.

The weather reports in Vegas this week are all sunny with highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's, sack up.

Maybe if those guys didn't wear their dresses, then the wind wouldn't blow up their skirts and make their vaginas cold.

"Cold"... rofl. You people don't know the meaning of the word.

This is why I love living in Vegas. Well, not necessarily the winter weather, which sucks at night. But conventions like CES, SEMA, and AVN (hell yeah porn convention) rock. And where else in the world can you play RE5 on a hotel on the strip? Nowhere. Summers suck here though, it's like 120 degrees.

It almost hurts how much I want this game. Long live RE and Capcom. Don't let Wesker die in this game so we can have RE6!

Oh my god, a little bit of cold never hurt anyone. I live in Northeast Ohio!!! The snow outside right now is 14 inches high, enough to go to your high shin! It's negative 3 degrees outside, and there is ice covering windows, topping the snow, and on the un-plowed streets. On top of that, I had to shovel my own 30 foot driveway today, and the 77 year-old neighbor's driveway! AND WE STILL HAVE SCHOOL TOMORROW!
