Polish developer says it is mulling series-first multiplayer component for upcoming next-gen role-playing game.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could be the first entry in the series to include a multiplayer mode. CD Projekt Red managing director Adam Badowski told Eurogamer that the studio is "thinking about something."
"But I cannot explain it now," he added. "You can expect some information later on. Sorry for that!"
Asked if this could be similar to The Witcher 2's wave-based Dark Arena mode, Badowski said, "I don't think so."
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is due out by the end of 2014 for "high-end" platforms, including the PlayStation 4. No past Witcher title has ever been released for a Sony platform.
Asked about a Witcher 3: Wild Hunt release for Microsoft's rumored next-gen platform, Badowski said, "I cannot, er, I cannot…tell you." Microsoft is rumored to announce the Xbox 720 during a media event in April.

If you believe that you can pull it off, and plan it well. Rather than force it into the game, I encourage you to do so. Skyrim for example, would be able to offer alot more hours of fun, if there was some sort of cooperation options, but do be careful. I have faith in CD Project Red, proven to be a good company so far. Unlike other companies which is aparrently more unpopular than banks, not mentioning any names, or two letters.

We can assure you that we won't sacrifice our trademark that is immersive, single player storytelling for the sake of other features, just to have them. Designing the game is a complex process. We take many elements into consideration, but ultimately an uninterrupted gaming experience is a priority and will always come first.

You're making a Witcher game. MP is so innapriopriate, it never even crossed the mind of most people. Highscores, sure. Trade items, MAYBE.
Fully fledged Multi-player? STOP.
Please just focus on making a well rounded and strong story. No Witcher fans are asking nor do we want this to have multiplayer. Please don't do this....
Im more so-so about this. If the main witcher story resolves with the rekindling of teh witcher order maybe the multiplayer will have some balance or root to play, but other than that i cant see any other reason for multiplayer rather than coop. Anyway lets just w8 and see...
An open world RPG like this can give people 80+ hours of gameplay in a single play through, and if it has multiple paths to take again then it will also have great replay value. So why they even think of adding multiplayer as well I don't know, it will already be great value for money and a keeper.

ME3 tried and failed it was OK at best and the only reason I played is because the jerks at Bioware made it part of the plot for Single Player... Stop trying to be something other than an RPG or MMORPG it will not end well for you, Stick to your damn roots man!
Actually a few friends and I still play the ME3 multiplayer, seeing as it is actually quite amazing. Perhaps not on your own, but with friends and all the events and constant free DLCs for multiplayer.
But I will say what I always say. CD Project Red is the sort of company that many of the big companies and now infamous companies like EA, could learn from. Go CD Project Red \o/
@ShinobiMedic If you want to play multiplayer go play COD with the rest of the children, until then let RPG's be what they are meant to be: An immersive first or third person experience with a great story to boot... NO Multiplayer, and By the way ME3 Multiplayer is good but it does not belong in a RPG because after the First 2 games in the series it's a giant WTF to the Mass Effect series... And to all saying this is CDPR guess what EA used to be them now they just have more power, and you still buy they're games... You see everyone complains about EA but still buys their games? I dislike the way EA handles some of they're projects, and just puts out games for a dime, but The Mass Effect series would have been way better off without MP and is still a better game than the Witcher series ever will be...
@ShinobiMedic How old are you because you just don't get the concept of an RPG game? Multiplayer does not belong in an RPG simple and plain, go play a multiplayer game then and yeah free DLC for more multiplayer is not what I want when I have 500+ hours in the Mass Effect Universe and can't use that character in Multiplayer, your the only one complaining about wanting more multiplayer, did you even play the first two games or just the third that EA turned to multiplayer garbage after they bought Bioware?
Wait wait wait! " By the way ME3 Multiplayer is good but it does not belong in a RPG" Really? Extra content, that encourages you to play cooperatively as several races in an RPG is actually a BAD thing for you? Reaaaally?
Make sure to state in the shop, next time you buy a game: If there is free content on it, I do not want it. If I can do anything else than play on my own, I do not want it.
If the Witcher can pull off some coop, be it as soldiers, mercenaries, bluestripes or the likes I am happy with it. Bring it on. Extra content is fun, especially if you can keep playing after the game with friends. If you do not have friends however, I can relate to your opinion.
Furthermore, if there was a sort of coop in an RPG world, like Skyrim for example. I'd invest MANY more hours in the game, for sure. Make it an option, or something to enjoy after your first playthrough.
4 Like I don't think this is wise. How can you make multiplayer for a game that only has a main character in the game. I'd rather they not go the same multiplayer path like Mass Effect 3 did.
Please, CDPR, don't waste resources on a multiplayer feature and instead put all your effort into making the open world Witcher game thing work.

2 Like Maybe it's just me, but I don't see how anyone would want this. It's like adding multiplayer to Tomb Raider or God of War. Rather than spending time on multiplayer, I would rather them try to make the combat in the single player better.
A (full-blown, none of that "Have some coop maps stuff") coop multiplayer would be bloody brilliant...
Another awesome RPG I would be able to play with my gf, or if she didnt want, a friend xD
PS: And yeah, they better not make it multiplayer or online connection mandatory, those stuff are just... Annoying, companies have been caring more about such stuff than actually make their game an enjoyable experience.
This is CDPR, they have a history of not enforcing that kind of always online DRM stupidity, or any really given that they sell the games on GOG day and date with everyone else, and I don't think that they would make what has been a single player game up to this point multiplayer mandatory.
If they still focus primarily on singleplayer and make multiplayer entirely optional (coop / PvE I hope instead of PvP), then I see no problem with that.
People can then choose whether they want to use this feature or not, but force multiplayer into the game or make it mendatory and they can already start preparing themselves for a shitstorm of complaints.
I agree with you everytime a good single player game is forced to become a muliplayer game they ruin the gaame. Knights of the Old Republic is a good example.
7 Like This may be one of only 3 studios that I still trust fully. On that note, if they can make multiplayer work somehow, then sure? but 1) I'm not seeing how, 2) the idea makes me uncomfortable.
8 Like I'm 100% with you guys about how annoying it is every game has MP in it nowadays and how it usually sucks, becomes the main focus for DLCs and stuff and comes in place of good SP stuff. It happens a lot, too much even, and it's horrible for the gaming industry.
That being said, CDPR haven't failed us yet, and I trust them completely. It's very early to bash them for this. Just let the guys work, and judge when you see the actual product

Stop whining multiplayer in this game can be a nice addition....at first I hate mp addition in ME3 but after playing it it feels good in I'm interested in getting the geth juggernaut....hopefully W3 mp turns up good
@Imperiacommando The multiplayer is the only "good" aspect of ME3 because the single-player is terrible.
Been the Demon's/Dark Souls fans that they are, I think it's gonna be something effectively inspired by the Souls series (so no BS). :)
Only a week ago people were praising CDPR in the comments of another article. Now suddenly they're stupid? Surely they've earned our trust by now, they wouldn't do this for the wrong reasons.
