i really liked this game. so wot if it has lots of elements from other games. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Spanish-made Xbox 360, PS3 reboot of Konami's seminal series hits milestone in US and Europe.
After first being teased in March 2008 and then formally announced during the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow finally shipped on October 5, 2010. The response to the series reboot has been solid, as today Konami announced that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game has shipped--not sold--1 million units in the US and Europe.
Developed by Spain-based Mercury Steam under Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima's supervision, Lords of Shadow is set in the year 1047 and follows a new member of the Belmont clan, Gabriel, who is a member of the Brotherhood of Light. Gabriel's adventure involves roaming the land in pursuit of pieces of an artifact that can bring the dead back to life while battling nefarious underworld creatures and other mythical monsters.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow's most marked change from traditional installments in the franchise is its free-roaming environments. The game also features combat that recalls Sony's acclaimed God of War franchise, in addition to a variety of puzzle challenges. It sports the voice talent of such actors as Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Natasha McElhone (Californication), Jason Issacs (Brotherhood), and Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, Stargate Universe) as Gabriel. A sequel is already reportedly in development.

The haters can all go to hell.... .... Lords of Shadow is my Game of the Year..... and yes, I got 1255 gamerpoints in Mass Effect 2.... and it still wasn't better than Castlevania.
You don't need to buy it at full price, but do try and get the chance to play it. This will seem a strange comparison but it has a touch of Ikagura too, yes the shooter; surprised? The music box puzzle was inventive too. The clever part of Castlevania is that it let's you bypass the puzzle element if you find them too difficult. It is choices like this which make the game more accessible to gamers. Good stuff! :) Recommended.
i might get the game when it drops in price, i love the gothic feeling.... the looks IS AMAZING, the gameplay is however nothing new, the story is "okey" and the voice acting is terific. when i was playing the demo the combat feelt buggy, so im not going to compare it to the actual game however it diden't made me want to get the game right away. nothing can compare to the classic castelvania games but then again we might never se them unless the psn network/xbox live puts them out as downloadable content.... im not sure about that new castlevania arcade cames coming out, looks cheesy.
Castlevania LoS is amazing. Who needs DLC expansions when this game offers 20+ hrs of incredibly challenging gameplay, awesome graphics and a crazy twist at the end... Its awesome and dont think its a God of War ripoff, in my opinion, the gameplay resembled the much more fast-paced combat of Ninja Gaiden. Slash slash roll, slash slash roll...and the magic system is really unique in that, you can double the damage w the red magic or recover health w blue magic. Its worth every penny I swear it. Plus you actually get to fight Satan at the end...totally rad
Started to play this game last week and got bored in the first level. Its a hack and slash fest at most with a ridiculous common story. I miss the Castlevania 64 days in which they tried to do something different.
@thetruemagusx1 i will buy it off ebay for like $30, then sell it after beating it for $30. I will lose shipping and atleast i will get to play whole game instead of renting for a couple days. i just cant bring myself to spend $60 when GT5 has more replay.
Fortunately, Konami considers these figures stratospheric by Castlevania standards.....so you can bet on them supporting this segment of the franchise for a long time to come. Count on at least 1 or 2 direct sequels.
Can't believe so many people actually got killed over and over because of the camera. Yea, the camera being movable would have helped on a few occasions, but I never had it cost me a life. Still......very stellar gaming experience that came very underrated by "some" critics. A must play for any Castlevania aficionado.
I was pleasantly surprised by this game, and am glad it's sold decently well. I still had bad flashbacks of the N64 Castlevania when I saw this title, but this title did not disappoint. The only thing I even hope for in a sequel is some camera tweaking.
aww man only 1 mill so far? this game is amazing, should be 5 mill by now!!!!!!!! the flood of 1st person shooters is ruining outstanding sales numbers for games like this!
Great game. Similar to GoW minus the angry Kratos with his daddy issues. GoW was still better in game play but Castlevania is still an excellent game. Very enjoyable and that's what counts.
i maintain that this was more like RYGAR for ps2 than god of war. just because your character attacks with a chain weapon DOES NOT make it a god of war clone. i loved the new game and CANNOT wait for a sequel. the story, the art, the voicework, soundtrack and gameplay all were just top notch.
@da_chub The Demo I feel does not do it justice. I again disagree and feel LoS is worth the 60 bucks. If you have doubts atleast rent it and you might change your tune on the game.
Probably will never come for PC, but since I have the two consoles, and seeing the positive feedback of customers I might get this under my radar.
I can't wait to get this game! The only reason I haven't picked it up yet is cause Im waiting for a sale on it or maybe for christmas? :)
this game is sick i picked it up but been back and forth on black ops but im still playing it action is good story is good its longer than force unleashed 2 heard its longer than fable 3 yeah id get a sequel if they made on now im a fan of castlevainia was never into it as a kid on my nintendo
Congrats for reaching 1 mill. this is an awesome game.Everyone who doesn't have it should give it a try. its great
@thetruemagusx1 i love button mashers. i never played gow b4 gow3. but gow3 had no issues but that it wasnt 25 hours. but it was just as challenging and there is nothing wrong with replaying the best of the best. Ive beat uncharted 2 6 times. its short, but gameplay is unbeatable. when i played dantes inferno, it was good...but not as good as gow. just felt like an opening act. castlevania demo was good, but it didnt sell me at being worth $60 like GOW3 did.
This game was suprisingly good, aside from a few mistakes it overall offers much for it's price. I also own gow3 and I liked Castlevania much more, gow 3 was a disappointment for me. Castlevania also takes around 2 times longer to complete than gow.
@da_chub Actually I think this game is a far better game then GoW 3, and definetly worth the price. I felt that the main problme of this game was some minor camera issues, aside from that it was very well made. Level design, and the combat while it was the GOW style was a much better then GOW. It was more strategy based then the sometimes button mashing in GoW. You button Mash in this game your dead, simple as that. Also it has amazing replay value, and the game is far longer then GoW....GoW is what 6 hours, this game is around 20-25 hours with far more replay. Thats just me I guess
im getting this game as soon as it drops in price. GOW3 was worth $60...so this cant be. but it looks good.
Great game, get to the vampire queen :) Beautiful graphics, lovely snowy realm. The vampire realm was the best, but the necromancer's was interesting too. Great ending too, fitting to the series. It put a smile on my face when the game finished. :) They captured the look and feel of the traditional monsters great. The overall look was excellent and well polished. Get the patch though v1.01, as it corrects save game issues.
Good game. Glad to see some attention to it besides the other blockbuster shooters. Am playing through it now, and so far it's pretty good and comparable with God of War.
Fantastic title. I loved Castlevania IV (the inspiration for this game), and I am not disappointed with this one. Easily one of the most polished games this gen. Already beaten it twice and going for Plat. @IrshDrkWlf: Finish the game and you'll understand very well how it fits in the rest of the series. ;)
This game is very good, but from what I heard from Konami it is not apart of the main storyline/timeline, that it is an alternate universe for Castlevania.
The darkness of the game may be one reason people haven't ran out to buy this game. But the game itself is a masterpiece of devotion. Graphics, gameplay, and audio are top notch. Like Dante's inferno it is far from being a family game or played while the little ones are around. It's a Mature game for sure.
comparitively this game did WAYYYY beter than othe rbig budget games. This game came outta no where and was a hit..with almost no ads
This is a beautiful, long game with zero launch budget; despite Konami's announcement about shippings, sales are actually quite low.
