Castle Crashers hitting PC

The Behemoth's beat-'em-up coming to Steam with voice chat, achievements, and gamepad support years after original debut; release date TBA.

Castle Crashers is finally storming the PC. Developer The Behemoth announced today at Gamescom that the beat-'em-up is coming to Steam, though no release date or price was provided.

Castle Crashers for Steam will feature voice chat, achievements, gamepad and cloud save support, and local and online multiplayer. The game debuted to a warm critical reception in 2008 on Xbox Live, with a subsequent release following in 2010 for PlayStation Network.

A four-player brawler, Castle Crashers places players in the oversized helmets of knights with elemental powers who must quest to regain a stolen idol and a kidnapped princess.

Castle Crashers for PC will be on hand at next month's Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, Washington, which runs August 31 through September 2. For more on Castle Crashers, check out GameSpot's Xbox Live and PSN reviews.

Releasing this NOW is pure stupidity. Most people already moved on and could care less about CC. It would have been better if Behemoth released this either at the same time as the X360/PS3 version or a little after the PS3 version. Not 4 ******* years later. What's the point? They could've scored a big profit then but now profits are showing little signs of promise.

Here is an idea, instead of porting old ass games why don't you guys make Castle Crashers 2 for all 7 platforms and shut-up (Vita/3DSXL/iPhone/PSWii60/SNES/Genesis) what ever just make the sequel for everything and stop making people wait or obtain little or no profits after the hype train goes by.

I'm glad that PC gamers will be able to play this amazing and addicting game!

A casual side scrolling beat-em-up that was released 4 years ago on 360.  While it was fun for a few hours back then, I can't see many people getting excited about it now.

Oh no... I have to pick between Blue, Green, Red and now Orange! Games are coming on by leaps and bounds these days. I wonder what the Orange one does.

@Trishan007Oh I know, I had just played through the ME3 ending, so it was just funny to me I'd be making more color coded decisions.

yikes, they're really getting all they can for this game, aren't they? pretty fun flash game, for about 15 minutes.

Okay thanks for releasing it on the PC like 2 years later?

I guess shunning the PC players and then asking for their money 2 years later will somehow make me love them?

After nearly half decade, they managed to port a flash game to the PC. If it was like 3 years ago I would've considered, but now it reaaally doesn't feel like it anymore.

About time. And  hopefully they join a humble bundle in the future as well. As owning a DRM free version is always nice :3

Fun game but, I'm sorry, I almost feel like they are just trying to milk this game for all it is worth. Release a CC2 Already.

@x-TwilighT-x They're putting it on a platform that a lot of people use. How is that milking?

x-TwilighT-x
x-TwilighT-x

@sirkibble2 Due to the fact that it's 4 years old and they are trying to sell it again. It's like Bethesda re-releasing Quake4. Milk the franchise. Whether or not the platform is used is a moot point.

sirkibble2
sirkibble2

@x-TwilighT-x Sure you can say they're squeezing every last drop out of it; I could see that. But that doesn't change the fact that it hasn't been released on a platform that people play, and prefer.

You want a sequel. That's fine. Though that could also constitute milking since the first one was such a rousing success.

@sirkibble2 The thing is, everyone has consoles. In fact statistics show that consoles sell much more than pc's do. I can't say for pc custom builds, however, Console sales to date total 114 million. There are around 125 million homes in the U.S. 12% of which are vacated. Making it 110 million. That leaves 1.036 consoles per home. That's just the stats of the Ps3 and the Xbox. I didn't include the Wii for the purpose of Castle Crashers. To reiterate, everyone has a console.

sirkibble2

@x-TwilighT-x The platform can't be a moot point because it was never on the PC. How many PC users out there have not had the opportunity to play CC because they don't have 360s or PCs? There's quite a few.

Sure it's 4 years later. None of us know why they waited so long but regardless of whether it was 2 years, 4 years, 10 years, or 3 weeks, The Behemoth decided to release it on the PC--where people who don't have consoles can play it.

That's great, but... must it be a Steam only game? I like having the CD, you know...

Fantastic news. I used to play the game quite a bit with friends on the Xbox 360. Hopefully my PC friends will find a liking to the game as well.

Wait, people are complaining? Come on guys, this game is fantastic and deserves to be played by as many people as possible. I only played through it once at my friends house, so I'll support them because I'm glad that they're at least not ignoring PC gamers.

Grovilis

@seangames It's rather odd how we'd get less complaining if the game wasn't released to PC at all.

It should have been on PC to begin with...

It's quite literally the easiest system to get a flash game to work on. Not only that but getting a decent game on Steam is extremely simple and worry-free. Tom Fulp sickens me they didn't do this sooner.

Grovilis

@Dante200X I'm going to assume that it had more to do with some kind of contract the devs had with Microsoft.

Cool, the game is great. Nice to know that more people will get to play it. They should maybe add some TF2 characters into it.
