Cars 2: The Video Game revving up this summer
Avalanche Studios building spy-themed film spin-off for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, Mac/PC; will sport connectivity with World of Cars Online, a free-to-play browser title.
Last summer, Pixar released the highly anticipated Toy Story 3. The film won warm reception, and the video game also scored critical plaudits. Disney is hoping for a repeat effort this year, when it will bring Cars 2 to the theaters along with a new companion game.
Cars 2: The Video Game will ship this summer for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, and Mac/PC. In development at Avalanche Studios--the team behind Toy Story 3: The Video Game--the game will, like the film, sport a spy theme.
More specifically, the title will bring players into the world of CHROME (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage), where they will be able to choose from more than 20 characters/cars. According to the announcement, players will "participate in simulated hazardous missions using high-tech gadgets to evade and slow down adversaries."
In addition, Cars 2: The Video Game will boast connectivity with World of Cars Online, a free-to-play browser game set in the Cars universe. Players will be able to gain "rewards" in the video game and then use them to unlock other, unnamed, items in the browser game.
Cars 2: The Video Game and its animated film inspiration are currently pegged to debut June 2011. For more on the series, check out GameSpot's review of 2006's Cars.
My autistic son loves Mater-national. I'll be eager to get the game for him.
Hey I'm just excited that there's a second film on its way! Did not know this!
let's see how this turns out

I would say that GameSpot is reporting this because the first game was actually good by their standards - for a licensed game. Do please notice that link to GameSpot's review of the first game.
(Either that or Eddie Makuch has to meet a quota of news articles. Or this was one article that was okay-ed by his bosses.)
lol ok
Yeah! :) To be fair the first one did suprisingly well didn't it? Also you've gotta give it some credit for being nice and varied... I mean there was a free-roam story mode, on and off-road racing and some cheeky little mini games in the mix too lol Compared with most movie games this one certainly appeared to have more substance! Don't worry guys... I'm not totally delluded! lol I know later 'Cars' games were significant steps backward. Basiciaaly I think we should give it a chance? Happy gaming! :)
Not interested, I'd rather watch the street racers in town get chased by the cops, far more entertaining than watching cops the show, Cars the movie or playing the game..... I'm not trying to bag on it but frankly Herbie did it first and he did it live action and with people........get me?? sure you do.
Can you get out of the cars? Shoot people, Have sex with prostitutes, Take drugs, run people over and chop people up with a chainsaw?
I'm so excited for this game!.... NOT
Avalanche Studios didn't made the Toy Story 3 video game, Avalanche Studios are the guys from Just Cause. Who made Toy Story 3 and is certainly making this one is Avalanche Software (not Studios), which is a subsidiary of Disney. Similar name, but diferent companies
Thanks GameSpot for this thrilling piece of news, we're all very excited already!
Not worth my time. I'll just stick with my Forza Motorsport 3 and Gran Turismo 5.
I didn't even know a movie was coming
must have...not
A high profile movie release and a complimenting video game? I didn't see that coming.
