Cars 2: The Video Game revving up this summer
Avalanche Studios building spy-themed film spin-off for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, Mac/PC; will sport connectivity with World of Cars Online, a free-to-play browser title.
Last summer, Pixar released the highly anticipated Toy Story 3. The film won warm reception, and the video game also scored critical plaudits. Disney is hoping for a repeat effort this year, when it will bring Cars 2 to the theaters along with a new companion game.
Cars 2: The Video Game will ship this summer for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, and Mac/PC. In development at Avalanche Studios--the team behind Toy Story 3: The Video Game--the game will, like the film, sport a spy theme.
More specifically, the title will bring players into the world of CHROME (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage), where they will be able to choose from more than 20 characters/cars. According to the announcement, players will "participate in simulated hazardous missions using high-tech gadgets to evade and slow down adversaries."
In addition, Cars 2: The Video Game will boast connectivity with World of Cars Online, a free-to-play browser game set in the Cars universe. Players will be able to gain "rewards" in the video game and then use them to unlock other, unnamed, items in the browser game.
Cars 2: The Video Game and its animated film inspiration are currently pegged to debut June 2011. For more on the series, check out GameSpot's review of 2006's Cars.
