Publisher looking to ramp up availability of original PlayStation and PSP games on Sony's downloadable-game service during the next few months.
Last week, rumors of a new version of the PSP hardware that would be able to play only downloadable games resurfaced, but with a handful of new details. One of the new tidbits said that when the handheld comes out, it will do so with more than 100 games added to the system's online catalog.
If that's true, a significant chunk of those games could bear the Capcom name. Gaming blog Joystiq is reporting that Capcom senior director of communications and community Chris Kramer told the site that it is preparing to increase its PlayStation Store presence drastically in the near future.
"Ultimately we're looking at bringing between 20 and 40 titles to the PSN over the next several months," Kramer said.
The publisher will be looking at a lot of Street Fighter and Resident Evil games, according to Kramer. However, it likely won't include licensed games such as Marvel vs. Capcom, despite the recent announcement that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be downloadable for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Currently the publisher has made limited use of the North American PlayStation Store for the PSP, recently unveiling its first digital-distribution-only game for the handheld.
they already released the Resident Evil (1-3) games on the Japan PSN a long time ago and they are in English dialogue. The menu is in Japanese but i been playing Resident Evil for so long that I have the controls memorize. I have them all on my Japan Account and I would play them on my PSP.
Damn, I wish they would bring some of the old-school to XBL. I'd love to play them like the older Resident Evil titles. Please make it happen! :)
they should definitely release the RE titles from the PS1 days on PSN, they've also some SF titles and Mega Man titles that would be popular
Capcom, put mega man 8 and X4 up there. All the RE games and Dino Crisis (1 not 2) Maybe Breath Of Fire 3&4. Then you will have my money.
In the UK our PSN games run in PAL 50 hrz with big frikkin boarders. I want to download the US games!!! They run in clean 60hrz with no boarders.
They should post the former GameCube Resident Evil 1 remake on the PSN store. Now THAT game i would pay up to $30 for. Regardless, RE1-3 NEED to be uploaded to the PSN store ASAP...
This is cool and all, but I already have every good Capcom game, not only for PS1 but also when they were re-released for GameCube, PS2 and Wii. Even though I won't be getting them again for PSP, Capcom still gets Thumbs Up for doing this.
If it wasnt for the fact that i pretty much own most capcom games worth owning on the ps1 and ps2, this would be exciting news
Did anyone else notice The Capcom Channel appear on the PSN last week or so? This was planned, folks.
Thats a great idea capcom. Get on the band wagon early and while other developers try to catch up PSP owners will be downloading the wide variety of AAA capcom games.
Okay... What about collection series of Megaman, Meagaman X, Megaman Zero, Dino Crisis Trilogy, Arcade collections and more? Anyway good job Capcom.
Looking forward to playing Resident Evil 1-3! I have all the Street Fighter games (thanks to the Street Fighter II and Alpha collections) so, I'm set. I'll take some of those Breath Of Fire and Dino Crisis games too!;)
that would be awesome seeing as how capcom is one the best gaming companys around and since i came into gaming late (im 22 but didnt have anything till n64 was almost done) i could go back and play some of the truely great games from back then
Great News hopefully we will see some resident evil games and powerstone 1 or 2. Its been a long time coming for us in the US.
I dont get the PSN. Japan has FF7 and the RE games but we westerners dont! America has Suikoden and Wild Arms but in the UK we dont. And in the UK we have Silent Hill but America doesn't! I mean, come on! Give us a break and start treating us all equally for christs sake.
They better freaking release all those games that they have released on the Japanese PSN... man they have every freaking RE game. Please release Jojo's Bizarre Adventure too, that game was awesome
Will be great if they get all the games they got on the Japanese PSN over on the NA/Europe ones, they got near everything except all their fighter titles up on there. @.@
OldKai dunno, but considering how much of a success they have been, theres a pretty nice chance they will. also, heres to a new BoF being that Digitally only game.....it probably isn't, but i can dream right?
Great. Now we get to hear people complaining about nothing but rehashes and Virtual Arcade on the PS3, too.
This is awesome news.... It would be nice to have all the original Resident Evil games all in one place.... Right now, I've got two for the PC, two on the Dreamcast, and one for the original Playstation. I'd definitely purchase them again for the right price. Then again, there are tons of other great Capcom titles that could hit the PSN. I'd love to play Demon's Crest, Knights of the Round, Magic Sword, and King of Dragons (maybe even with HD Remixes... lol)
There's quite a few oldies-but-goodies from Capcom that I would buy. I would love to see an updated, awesome version of Gargoyle's Quest from Game Boy....
