[UPDATE] Japanese publisher holding "title premiere for Xbox 360" on Tuesday, Tokyo time--meaning news of announcement will likely arrive in North America on Monday; game is port of PC Monster Hunter MMORPG.
[UPDATE] Microsoft has now revealed the new 360 game is a port of the pre-existing PC massively multiplayer online role-playing game Monster Hunter Frontier. Released in 2007 in Japan for Windows, the title will launch on Xbox Live this summer in the island nation. No Western release plans were announced, although it is worth noting Capcom never felt compelled to bring the original Monster Hunter Frontier to North America or Europe despite repeated entreaties. The original article is below.
Next week may be a big one for Capcom-loving Xbox 360 owners. The official Japanese Xbox site is currently teasing a "Capcom Title Premiere for Xbox 360" as happening on Tuesday, January 26--which would likely mean a Monday reveal in North America.
The black screen also bears the words "Microsoft x Capcom"--raising the very faint possibility of a crossover title similar to 2005's Namco x Capcom.
A far, far more likely scenario is that the Japanese publisher will announce either an all-new IP or a 360 adaptation of one of its more popular franchises. Since moving to a console-agnostic strategy during 2007 and 2008, Capcom has brought such hit properties as Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Street Fighter to Microsoft's latest console for the first time.
The list of active IPs not on Microsoft's platform is short, with Monster Hunter being the most popular in Japan--where the Xbox 360 remains largely shunned despite Microsoft's ongoing wooing. The mystery game could also be a reboot of the Onimusha series, which appeared on the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox, or a remake of a classic Resident Evil title along the lines of the Wii's Darkside Chronicles.
There's always the chance of an new Xbox Live Arcade offering from one of Capcom's myriad arcade series--several of which (Street Fighter, 1942, Final Fight) are already on the online service. Finally, the game might be a new installment in an existing Xbox 360 series, although Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2 have already been announced.
so the annoucement was actually capcom meets gears of war cause think about it...what does monster hunter have to do with microsoft anyway. It was just a part of their big announcment which was actually this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLE5_zkIbzA&feature=youtube_gdata
I've seen the new announcement and its monster hunter frontier, why is the title here still "Capcom revealing new 360 game next week"? and what's so new about that? stupid Microsoft and Capcom!!
Monster Hunter Frontier on Xbox360... Epic move!!.. If u never played a monster hunter game before u dont know what ur missing- just imagine 4 player coop beating 'rock' hard monsters online! *drool*
Wrong Title: Capcom revealing new 360 game next week Correct Title: Capcom revealing old 360 game this week
http://www.xbox.com/ja-JP/press/release/20100126.htm You'll have to translate it but that's the press release, clearly detailing Monster Hunter.
http://www.n4g.com/xbox360/NewsCom-463970.aspx?CT=1#Comments Sounds like the game is indeed Monster Hunter Frontier...^ I haven't seen any articals that detail the announcement though.
@ TheEldestGod Even though Monster Hunter would be popular in HD... ... I can't really see how it would WORK in HD. It just seems like one of those games that work best on the original PSP/PS2/Xbox
An Onimusha revamp would ROCK that was the reason I bought a PS2 and I'd love a greatest hits release of 2 and 3 for the 360
@Rogue Shadow0618 tri-Ace works with Sega at End of Eternity. I was on that Page. And there is already an ad for End of Eternity. So it's not that.
Until someone posts a full translation of that part of the page, I am gonna believe it's an ad for End of Eternity. Now explain why tri-Ace is gonna advertise Capcom?
I think Kakalun is right. Saw the same thing on another site. Not 100% sure though. But from the sounds of it it's a Monster Hunter game.
@Kozisurf Look over the red text box in the middle of the image, it says monsut? hant? furontia onrain.
So much for me thinking time difference would help me find out what this game is today. It's now 5am (2pm in Japan!) and I can't wait any longer lol, I'll see tomorrow
@Kakalun Where does it prove this ? Though I can not read Japanese, going by the images I can make out, I see Persona 3 Portable, and End of Eternity. I can't see (or read) anything that suggest Monster Hunter Frontier.
the new game is Monster Hunter Frontier Online on x360 this scan proves it: http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/261/92588187.jpg
I would love it to be a new Breath of Fire, but if this is the Natal title they originally talked about, then that won't be the case sadly. I agree with some others, please don't let it be another fighting game lol
Doubtful that it's a fighter seeing as how SSFVI is coming out shortly. They would essentially be cutting into their own market. Launching a new franchise would be very risque, especially considering this game is "exclusive." My money is on the rejuvenation of an already proven franchise. Or something that will use some sort of Natal features.
To many thumbs down here is like a no life has inuff time to read all these lol. i give you a 1000000 thumbs down Mr.No life =P
@angelGP32- Super Street Fighter IV is going to be less than $60 (most retail stores are listing the price as $40 for pre-order) and although there are two brand new original characters, Capcom is also adding in eight (possibly even nine with the rumor of "Shadow" spreading around) more characters to the Super Street Fighter IV roster who have never been seen in 3D graphics (less you count the trailers released) and will be able to interact in match-ups that have never been possible before. The gameplay mechanics has also changed, there is now a 'wall bounce' system which spells out more juggle opportunities (and I don't know if you know this, but gameplay mechanic changes are kinda BIG -_-), faster Focus Attack dashing, more costumes, a crapload of animation content (personally I don't really care for, but it's still content), a replay save system (I'll give you that they should've included this in the first one), new stages, new online modes, the return of the bonus stages, plus there are critical changes made for all 25 characters of the original Street Fighter IV roster as well, including frame data, move properties, voice samples, etc., making this game bigger than just a simple DLC, so don't even kid yourself. Just be thankful that you're getting it for $40. Thank you for trying, and have a nice day.
@unreal_master He could live in an area just a few time zones ahead of the US, where it IS the 26th...so rofl right back at you
@Killer6b9 I am pretty sure that saying "an all-new IP or a 360 adaptation of one of its more popular franchises" means that it could be either a new IP or an old one.
viewtiful joe 3 or marvel vs capcom 3 with street fighter 4 engine but i doubt it being marvel vs capcom 3 wud be cool though
