I don't remember hearing anything about this... but in my honest opinion, I do see how SONY should care, just think about it, you are competing with a console who has already gained ground on you, a console that is cheaper (price-wise), a console that is the favorite of the public already, and you give away your exclusives? Well, then let's all go sell our PS3s and buy 360s and use the extra money to buy DMC. If sony would have kept DMC as an exclusive and used the real power of the PS3 to create a unique game, instead of mirroring half of the game, they could have gained a lot of console sells... yeah, kind of what Metal Gear did (Yes, Snake pushed me to buy a PS3). That being said, I did buy DMC4 for the 360 when it came out... first day. And if it had been a PS3 exclusive I would have seriously considered buying a PS3. But I'm not a company, I'm just a gamer and I'm happy people (like me) with only a 360 had the chance to play DMC.
Exec makes statement on the official forums after PS3 fans send petition slamming the decision to take Devil May Cry 4 multiplatform.
Last week, Capcom joined the latest in a string of announcements from various companies when it said that one of its upcoming games, Devil May Cry 4, would now be going multiplatform.
Devil May Cry 4 is set to be the latest in a growing list of games which will be appearing on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, after being previously slated as format-exclusive to one or the other.
The result of its announcement may well have taken Capcom by surprise. PlayStation fans chose to hit out at the Osaka, Japan-based company, which has produced such games as Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and the Resident Evil and Breath of Fire franchises. The fans even went as far as setting up an online petition, stating that "the undersigned" would boycott Capcom's products unless it reversed its decision and kept the game exclusive to the PS3.
In response to a thread on the official Capcom forums titled "What are you thinking, Capcom?" the company's senior director of strategic planning and research, Christian Svensson, said, "We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes."
He continued, "At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we're not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it). It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers." He later locked the thread, stating that it had "run its course, gone off course, rolled down a cliff, hit a cow, and then exploded."
The full petition, available on the Petition Online Web site, reads, "To: Capcom, We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title, and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games. This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment [sic] to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself. We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold [sic] our option of buying your product."
The petition had, as of press time, received a total of more than 7,500 signatures. Though with samples including, "This petition is retarded," "This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen," and "I got a big ****," it's hard to gauge how accurate a judge of outrage it is.
@ Beastcake It's called used sales. @JB2B Egocentric, I must admit, I don't think I've been called that before. I'm upset because I like the idea of company loyalty, and the idea of exclusives. In my opinion, exclusives help build competition. It also gives more time and money to the developer to polish the game. Sure, there's first party exclusives always, but how many people think the same, really? Without exclusives it pretty much boils down to who has the cheaper console (because let's face it, if it went by better hardware console sales would be much different).
I think the people who are upset because of this are very very sad egocentric people. And some other words which would get me a ban for a day or two. Do you hear me as an 360 owner complaining that some of the former 360 exclusives are going to the Xbox??? NO, I just see it as an opportunity to get my PS3 owning friends to have the same experience I had .
i really don't understand why people get so upset about this... i have a 360, and thats all i have, and i would give exactly zero damns if every 360 game was multiplatorm. i'd rather all games were multiplatform, more players, more people to play with and enjoy the games with
SCREW THIS THING!! I would of signed and made 10, 001. I am a fanboy and I admit it with a puuuuure passion baby!. I love Sony with all my heart. And I don't know any of you so I shouldnt even waste my precious time with any worthless gamer like ya'll that don't understand what's to have a console. LONG LIVE SONY!!
What a bunch of retards. Did they miss the meaning of "multi-platform" or what? The way they were talking suggested that DMC4 wasn't even getting a P$3 release.
This petition is the dumbest one of the dumbest things I have ever heard of in my entire life. ...and I have heard of a lot of dumb things.
i dont no why they feel they have a say on how the game is distributed since they probably dont own and stock or rights to capcom, we the ps3 fanboys need to stfu and enjoy the ps3 rather than be pissed that its losing to its rival, because i bought a 400$ console to loathe the other one I AM SO HARDCORE!!! Fanboys are uber gay and frustrated cause unconsciously they too doubt sony's capabilities to bring anything good to the table
About half of the 12000 signitures (actually, id think like 3/4 from what i saw) are AGAINST the petition. rest easy, everyone - there aren't THAT many retards.
you mean every game should ideally be on PC. that way everyone could play it.if you don't want to spend too much money then fine you can buy an affordable PC and still play the game. Its that sort of choice that made the PC great but unfortunately this isn't an ideal world!
se i'm so annoyed at these losers i've lost the ability to spell, or even click the check spelling button!!
To the guys who started this petetion, actually to "fanboys" every where. Turn off your console, wander blinking into the light. find a girl, get laid. Igot a PS3 due to previous brand loyalty and i wanted blu ray. I'm happy with it, the 360 is easily as good as the PS3, better in some aspect, worse in others but who actually cares. Unless you own stock or worked on the development of the console why do you care? Every game should be multi platform. More sales means more money means more developmet. It's a circle. soem people need to grow up.
more people can experience the game if it goes multiplatform, and there won't be any 'platform guilt.' It's for the best.
What do you expect, you cant make a buck in this world unless you bow down before the alter of Bill and kiss his ring. Until the FTC yanks MS's chain so hard they feel like they are back in the 80s, its gonna be the SOP. Bow to M$ or be destroyed.
capcom is right to make dmc a multiplatform. That way alot more people will enjoy the game. Now if sony butkissers cant except that, then it is their problem cause capcom is not changing its mind. People like fleshsniper1 should understand this.
The last time I checked Capcom is a 3rd party developer, with that in mind it would be stupid for Capcom to keep DMC4 solely on PS3. If I make a great product it would be in my best interest to present my product to the best distributor to get my product out to as much homes as possible. Capcom should put DMC4 on the Wii; I would very interested to see how they would incorporate the Wii remote controller. Multiplatforming gives us the consumer the power of choice to choose which game we can play on whatever console we choose. I can understand why some of us are pissed off with Capcom?s decision. It hard to justify an expensive purchase of Sony?s PS3 when ?their stronger title? (DMC4) are available on a cost effective console XBOX 360.
halirious read!!!!! LOL XBOX sucks and should stay with button mashing crappy god of war, please dont steal ps games :/ they are too good for you Mr. GreenX non slick chunky fatso looking monkey
this makes me laugh !!!! even if the game is on every platform in the world i will still buy it for my ps3
those guys are probably going "yeah, boo capcom u TRAITORSSS" but when it launches, they'll rush to the store to buy a copy lol
All I have to say is ZZZOMG. Seriously...how in the world can anyone see producing an awesome game going multiplatform as a bad thing? I guess if you have stock in Sony it would be bad thing. More likely, it's just a bunch of PS Fanboy whiners. I hope whoever started the petition is getting paid by Sony. I own a PS1, PS2, PSP, XBOX and XBOX 360, so I have no loyalty to either conglomerate. Capcom needs to make money, and they are not going to make money selling this game to a market of 5 million when they can go multiplatform and have 14 million xbox 360 owners in the market plus god only knows how many PC owners. I'm thrilled that I don't have to go buy a PS3 until FF and or GoW3 come out. This is as bad as the BS flying around that M$ paid EA to make MAdden 08 have a crummy frame rate for the ps3...please. The ps3 is a fine machine that developers just need more time with. The first set of games that came out for the 360 weren't all that great either.
HA! You guys should read some of the signatures: 12202. PLAYSTATION SUCKS 12191. ps3 isforfa** 12180. Xbox 360 FTW!! 12136. lol ps3 12105. PS3nerdsmaycry
i have no problem whit the game going multiplatform, maybe a lot of customers lost a reason to buy a PS3 but still, now the game will defently sell more so then Capcom will have a bigger budget to make the next one in the series, and a bigger budget means a bigger change of getting another awesome game XD Bavoke 8)
its all about money with these big companys, what that exc said about it rolling down a hill and hitting a cow was funny,, but what he says doesnt make sense cause the devil may cry series has done good when it comes to sales,,, i signed the petition cause sony is the one that got it this far,, but now the exc's are acting like lil sluts and banging anyone that will give them a dollar, but it doesnt bother me now that ive seen the trailers,, it doesnt even look that good,, i mean it is pretty,, but the gameplay and story look dull, i pretty much know the story after seeing the trailers,id rather play a game that i can play against or with my friends online, this probably doesnt even have any coop,, but if it did it would suck anwyays,,, god i cant wait till gta 4 and metal gear online comes out, noone will even think about this game anymore,, what game am i writing about again?
I had forgotten about this pitiful story. Sounds like those people were just looking for something to gripe about. Boycott Capcom games?!? LOL. I bet that never even happened. Grow up, petition people. If you were true Capcom fans, you would be open to having more people play their awesome games.
Gav_wolf Wow. This just goes to show how egoistic and self-centered todays society has become. I don't own a single console, but many of my friends do, and I play consoles at game stores. One of the games series I've spent the most time in front of a shop console with is Devil May Cry. I love that kind of game, and the style is amazing. Three days ago, I noticed that DMC3 was available on steam. I've been playing it constantly since then. And my first thought was "man, I've got to tell my friends so they can get this too." You talk about loyalty and betrayal, but you give no thought to those who CAN'T get a console. With the price of the PS3, that's going to be quite a few. Why can't you let the people who have just gotten a small taste of it enjoy this too? Now, if Capcom was selling the franchise to someone, I could have understood it. I can't afford a PS3, but I can scratch together enough money for a game. I've spent all my free time playing DMC3 since I got it, and when DMC4 is out I'm going to buy it, and play it until my eyes bleed - instead of standing in front of a store console until the cashier kicks me out of the store. You should be happy that more people will get to enjoy it, instead of complaining about Capcom "betraying" you. And that's enough ranting from me today. MUCH RESPECT to you! A sensible point you have made, not everyone can convince their parents to get them such an expensive machine. Not everyone is rolling in cash like some people are. Some people have lives to live, people to care for. Having it multiplatform lets people who can't afford to buy a next gen console atm choice, instead of having to go out and buy the the latest console. Multi platform should mean more competition which means prices lowered.
Well, if the petition statement made sense, then I would at least understand, but they feel "left out" because of releasing it to the 360 as well. That could have used some work.
lozandier... thank you for being the voice of reason, i agree with you 100% I also am thrilled it will be arriving on 360, if anyone is alienting anyone i would have to say it was sony for making such an expensive machine... that doesnt even offer much above the 360 yet is double the price... you just need to click on a random page on that petition to see the kind of people who care about this and quite frankly it made me feel ill looking at some of those comments...

Some of you talking about "loyalty" are complete idiots, especially people talking about "Devil May Cry 4 coming to 360 is like Halo coming to PS3." First of all, the red-blooded gamers saying this have completely slanted perceptions. Capcom is a THIRD PARTY developer. Unless they have made a contract to make a franchise exclusive to a console or is making a game that's Sony property (making them a SECOND-PARTY like Retro Studios with the Metroid Prime Series), they can make a franchise to ANY system they want; Bungie is a FIRST-PARTY developer, so their rights are much more "restrictive" than a third party developer. Halo is a property of MICROSOFT. Devil May Cry is NOT a property of Sony. It's ironic you people call yourselves "Hardcore Gamers/Smart Gamers' and you people don't understand the rights and hierarchy of Console Videos Games. Capcom previously made Devil May Cry, if I'm not missing anything here, only on Playstation because they loved the user base and loved Playstation as a whole and allowed their great game they envisioned be loved by the biggest Japanese Console in the market at the time, and had big user base overall to maximize a great profit for Capcom. They were right, of course. They loved the Playstation more than any of the other consoles, and it easily had the biggest console base in the world, so it was critical it came out for the Playstation 2. Looking at now, they have gained interest in Xbox 360 because of its huge userbase outside of Japan, and it power; AND they had the Playstation 3 big Japanese User base and relatively okay base outside of their homeland. Looking at their relatively ok "trial" with Lost Planet for Xbox 360 that got relatively good sales and is nowhere as big or good as other Capcom titles, Devil May Cry 4 for the Xbox 360 AND the Playstation 3 is a no brainer. Plus ADD the fact there isn't no game on 360 yet that has action Devil May Cry has to offer, the game should easily sell well overall, giving Playstation 3 one of their best franchises on the console back in the past, WHILE making the game available to a new console fanbase. Looking at simple game business, it's $$$ for Capcom, and making the game even MORE popular. If they were getting exclusive money from Sony, then they wouldn't have to make Devil May Cry multiplatfrom. Looking at Next Gen Costs, plus the fact there isn't no real incentive of Devil Mary Cry 4 being only on Playstation 3, it's a NO BRAINER it should be a Multiplatformer. Either way, it's about time Capcom avoids people saying they "alienate" their games to only Japanese Brand Systems, which fairly is a true Natural Thing people shouldn't whine about because it makes perfect sense, but there's negative backlash from it as well but that's life and business in general. The Base of Xbox 360 is becoming too big to ignore anymore, (and so is the Wii, respectfully) and it's again a good move to enter their gaming library, as well as make a name for yourself in that vast, growing library. All Game Developers want to be successful in their career. Who's 7,500 people who are plain ignorant, and sadly kind of reminds me of the idiotic "Superiority" humans have done in the past, e.x.: Whites in the 60's are better than others, Because I'm came from a certain part of a country, your opinion, doesn't mean squat compared to mine, etc. It's sick how they think that a game franchise that Sony doesn't own BELONGS to them anway. How would you feel if that was your game and people were saying that you shouldn't move to other consoles as well because "They Said So?"
i agree with azren ive only got a Xbox 360 so when i heard they were bringin it out for my console i was over the moon, those sad people who are going to boycot their games can go make love to a goat because they will miss out on awesome upcoming games like resident evil 4 and devil may cry 4 so up yours sad acts!!
You'll all need to STFU capcom don't care about u all they care about is money if u die today or 2morrow there not gonna know or care the only thing they about is getting ur money so STFU the game is still coming out. P.S I Have PS3 and a 360 so don't even try to call me a fanboy get a fing life and get over it the gams is still coming out. "alfie1980 Ha ha ha ha! Xbox is getting all ps3's best games! And you know what? We're keeping Halo AND Gears of war! Unlucky Sony maybe next time you shouldn't keep people waiting so long." STFU man Xbox isn't getting all the beest game MG4, FF 13, FF 13 VS 13 , heavenly sword, Warhawk, little big planet, Socom: confrontation Lair, Kingdom Hearts i can go on. I have a 360 and for people that don't have a Brain you forget Halo and gears of war ant the only Games that have made it what it is so stop act like ash holes and get a life.
