Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Street Fighter X Tekken expected to top 2M, Dragon's Dogma at 1.5M, Dead Rising 2: OTR called at 800K.
Capcom is coming off a banner fiscal year in which profits were more than three-and-a-half times the 12-month period prior, while sales rose 46 percent. The publisher plans to give up some of those gains during its in-progress fiscal year, but it still expects to launch a number of million-unit sellers in the not-so-distant future.
In an amendment to its full-year earnings report issued last week, Capcom said today that it expects the Slant Six developed Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City to sell 2.5 million units. Due this winter for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, the game will emphasis squad-based combat as players assume the role of an Umbrella Corporation operative. Notably, that figure comes in well below sales of Resident Evil 5, which sold more than 5 million units in less than three months.
Street Fighter X Tekken does not yet have a launch window, but Capcom believes the game will sell about 2 million units, regardless. The Namco Bandai crossover was announced at Comic-Con 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and it will see fighters from the two franchises entering the same ring.
Dragon's Dogma will be a new intellectual property from Capcom when it launches for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012, and the publisher isn't expecting stellar numbers from the original title. Following its launch early next year, Capcom expects the game will go on to sell 1.5 million units.
However, Capcom is least optimistic about Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, which will be a spin-off of sorts to its mass zombie-slaying action title. Due this fall on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, the game is expected to shift some 800,000 units.
I predict Operation Raccoon City will be a surprise hit. I loved RE Outbreak File 1 and File 2, so this should be a much smoother running game engine with better graphics over Outbreak obviously, so it should catch on and be a blast to play. Hunters, lickers, zombies... great fun. You can play online or offline with a team of 4 just like Outbreak.
@Dgarl67 :Again, that's what comments are for. Some against, some for. Weather someone cares about it or not, that's part of why they comment.
I'm intending to get Street Fighter vs. Tekken and the Dead Rising 2 spin-off, not really a fan of Resident Evil anymore
@DarthVeng_basic I'm not trying to say opinions are bad, just that is you know you dont care about a story, then why even click the link to read it? Also, all I am trying to do here is explain why some of us are interested in stories like this. I personally do care what Capcom thinks it will sell because that translates into what they put their resources towards and ultimately affects the quality of the game. I am happy they think Dragon's Dogma will sell 1.5 million because that probably means they will but a lot of resources into it rather than just half-assing it and putting out a bad game.
i agee with that, not really into a new dead rising game yet and SF versus Tekken sounds like it might be silly. yet, dogma might be a sleeper hit. for all i know. i am looking forward to killing leon...So, Capcoms got me pegged
I so, so want this game looking at the trailer in the article! Resident Evil is back on form with zombie plagues non of that las plagas crap thank God!
@Dgarl67 :That's what comments are for. It's called an opinion, they aren't always in favor of the topic. I really don't care if Capcom sells a "new IP" 75% as much as Street Fighter. I don't care if X360 sells more than PS3 one month and Wii the next. I don't care about statistics or reading about them, it doesn't effect what I buy or don't buy. Analysts should get a real job instead of setting around a table predicting.
So It looks like this game will be based on cooperative game-play and i hope they make it something like Resistance 2 co-op mode. Anyone who's ever played Resistance 2 would have to agree when i say it has one of the best co-op mode out there. I got a good feeling Capcom will not disappoint gamers on this one.
Capcom predicting sales? This can't be good... I gotta say though, I'm not all too thrilled with the directions they're taking their series in.
@megakick i can see the tekken characters being way underpowered compared to sf characters mostly thanks to projectile attacks. if they try to balance it out by giving tekken characters projectile attacks then id find it really cheesy.
@Gelugon_baat because ive been coming to this site since it was videogames.com. i know this site isnt nearly as good as it used to be but old habits are hard to break.
@DarthVeng_basic This is a gaming site not only focusing on reviews but also all news in the gaming industry. This includes everything from sales projections to senate hearings on the psn outage. Also, this article was pretty clear in specifying it was about sales projections and yet you clicked on the link to read it anyways and then commented on how much you dont care about sales projections. Lastly, this information is interesting because it shows what the mindset at Capcom is. They showed in these projection that their new IP can sell 75% as much as a Street Fighter game...which too me is incredibly optimistic but shows Capcom seems to either have a lot of faith in their new IP or not a ton of faith that Street Fighter x Tekken will sell.
Like anyone cares about game sales projections? I could care less how much a game sells or how many consoles are sold. I buy what I buy no matter what.
Either these numbers or this reporting seem off...i dont know which it is. Wouldnt selling 1.5 million units of a new IP be a huge success? Yet this report says that Capcom isn't expecting steller numbers. This also means that for Dragon's Dogma to be considered a "good seller" it would probably need to top 2 million...which is their projection for Street Fighter x Tekken. If Capcom's new IP really tops Street Fighter x Tekken...that would be a huge success.
Capcom what about DMC projections? are you still confident you can sell the 5 Million you had hoped for? Shows the amount of confidence you have on NT.
I've often wondered if Raccoon City is Des Moines. Des Moines sits on the convergence of two rivers, one of them being the Raccoon.
Who else thinks this looks sick as hell. Too bad Leon had to die though. Couldn't they have made it any other character?
Why so negative about the releases? Make the games fun and accessible, and you'll do fine. Oh, and you need to make Dragon Dogma the best game ever. That is all.
