Keiji Inafune apparently confirms the Dead Rising 2 publisher is collaborating with studio on an undisclosed project; Professor Layton franchise sales hit 9.5 million units.
The day after Capcom R&D chief Keiji Inafune heaped praise on Level-5, reports have surfaced that his employer and the Professor Layton studio are in a full-blown collaboration. When asked by Japanese business site Diamond Online (translated via the blog Andria Sang) if reports of a joint project were accurate, the Mega Man cocreator did not mince words.
"This rumor is true," Inafune reportedly said. "Right now, the two of us, with our staff, are working together on some truly interesting things. Even though [Level-5 CEO Akihiro] Hino is younger, he's someone I respect. I wanted to try working with him, so I contacted him." No further details about the project--or projects--were made public.
The plaudits for Hino apparently grew even more effusive. "The thing I most respect about Hino is his work ethic," beamed Inafune. "Before I met Hino, I had confidence in the amount of work I was doing, and even thought that maybe I was the hardest working person in the game industry. But after meeting him, I thought, 'I'm probably not number one.'"
Inafune went on to state that sales of Level-5's Professor Layton series have now surpassed 9.5 million units. The puzzle-solving DS franchise was recently updated with last week's North American debut of the critically praised Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. The title was among Bestbuy.com's top 10 best-selling games for its launch week, according to rankings released by the megaretailer.
I become a fan of level5 after DQVIII: Journey of the Cursed King... awesome RPG. This could be HUGE, but please, whatever they are working on, make it for Ps3/360 withouth any kind of motion control crap.
@SavoyPrime Though you did include that it was your opinion, my opinion is that they've never gotten off the track to be getting back onto the track, I happen to like White Knight Chronicles and it's almost mini-mmo kind of appeal, I'm still very much enthralled by the whole experience and Level-5 does amazing work at reaching out to a broad spectrum of users.
Sadly, I thought it was SONY teaming up with Level 5 again. I want Dark Cloud 3 and Rouge Galaxy 2! No more WKC!
Haha yea Rogue Galaxy there you go.. Awsome RPG and one of my favorites that i played on the ps2.. :)
Level 5 use to do some Ps2 RPG's, right? That name sounds so familiar i know i've played one of their games before.. But it wasn't a puzzle game i don't think..
Sounds interesting, but I gotta say that Level-5 hasn't done anything that has interested me since Dark Cloud 2 and Rogue Galaxy. I care not for White Knight Chronicles or the Professor Layton series. I hope they can get back on track.
Level-5 makes some of the greatest games of our generation, and Capcom is a legendary developer whose fallen off a bit. This should be a neat collaboration.
2 companies of very different styles, Capcom has now turned into a western-ish developer, whereas Level 5 sticks with the more traditional japanese approach (simple presentation, fun gameplay)
I guess this was hinted at in the interview where the Dead Rising 2 producer mentioned how great level 5 is.
QtrArt "i don't like that game i don't why people love that game is not horror not action is nothing is so bad" I would describe it as point and click mystery.
i don't like that game i don't why people love that game is not horror not action is nothing is so bad
@Gelugon_baat You have understand that in Japan elders are automatically respected just for being older. So for someone older to say that they respect someone younger is very high praise. But yes, in the Western world people would take offense at the implication that being younger would automatically mean you're not as well respected.
@Ardain do you have any idea how cool that would be. mega man legends is one of my favorite games EVER!
@zenverak and @HaloPimp978 When I said "make something great like Dark Cloud 2 or Rouge Galaxy", I meant make a NEW game that is as great as those two. I didn't ask for a remake; if I wanted a remake I would have said so.
I never did play Dark Cloud even though everyone I knew raved about it, I was too busy being addicted to Deus Ex: The Conspiracy for PS2 lol I never heard anything good about White Knight Chronicles and most of their other stuff are Portable games. I don't own PSP, DS, DSI none of it..... I'm pretty much strictly a console rat......
Eh, I didn't enjoy any of Level 5's games. Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud, WKC, all were meh. It's nice to see the possibility of a Capcom RPG though. Here's hoping it's another BoF.
@zenverak HaloPimp978 Rogue Galaxy is also out. Xe was not saying Level-5 should release those exact games. They were intended as examples of previous Level-5 games that xe liked.
This is great news. I love some of Level-5's games, Dragon Quest VII, Dark Cloud, and Rouge Galaxy. If you haven't played those games, then shame on you people.
@Ranma_X_basic, noooooooo...Turrican was Factor 5 :) And the first two were fine games, the third one not so much. I think they did do Lair for the PS3 though (Factor 5).. and we have the results of that one, not good. Level 5 did, erm..the Dragon Quest Series, Rogue Galaxy etc..
Didn't level 5 make a Turrican game back in their hayday? i wish there was a new game in that franchise.
So on the one hand the guy is complaining about Japan being far behind, and then they team up with Level 5 best known for jrpgs.
I want Level 5 to go ahead and make something that is as great as Dark Cloud 2 and Rouge Galaxy. Those were two of my favorites from Level 5, and it's a shame they haven't done a third Dark Cloud.
This project will likely result in a game that's too crappy...oh wait, I'm sorry, I didn't word that right...I mean, this project will likely result in a game that's "too Japanese" for NA audiences. Inafune would be proud.
Hope Level 5 will make a fun RPG again. Something that looks amazing like Rogue Galaxy, and this time maybe hire better people to write the story. They already have a great series with Professor Layton and DQ 9 does have a lot of stuff, but one would like to hope for a console role playing game that's fun. Hope they can pull it off!
