Rails is a dead genre. It sadly is. Would've been better if it WASNT ON RAILS. Come one.... Rails is only fun if you're putting 2 quarters in an arcade machine not in your living room.
TGS 2009: Producer Masachika Kawata highlights details on Wii game's new scenario, Operation Javier, and more; new trailer inside.
TOKYO---Today at the 2009 Tokyo Game Show, Capcom held a stage presentation to introduce the new story addition to Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, its upcoming Wii remake of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica.
Appearing onstage, producer Masachika Kawata started out his presentation with a new trailer, which showed us a new chapter, Operation Javiar. The year is 2002 and the setting is South America. We see Leon S. Kennedy, who has walked into a deserted village together with Jack Krauser.
Leon and Krauser search through the village, only to find their guide gravely injured inside one of the wrecked houses, mumbling something about a girl. Then, the trailer quickly shifts back to the village streets, except this time, they're no longer deserted. Leon and Krauser find themselves surrounded by mobs of zombies all too eager to take a bite out of the two protagonists. As Leon enters a church, he finds a girl in a white dress lying on the ground.
The trailer then suddenly changes to a number of cutscenes in a huge futuristic lab facility, full of B.O.W.s (Bio-Organic Weapons). They include a Tyrant and, more noteworthy, a mysterious fiery being that mentions that it has been waiting for years to become one with the Veronica virus.
The trailer then switches to a scene that looks like a dam or possibly the outside of the lab. Leon and Krauser are together with the girl in the white dress, and we find out her name is Manuela. A couple of gameplay scenes show Leon and Krauser fighting their way through the streets, while also protecting Manuela. A number of interesting lines of dialogue were heard while additional gameplay was shown: "So this is what Umbrella's virus can do, huh?" "Yeah, but there's something different about this one."
The trailer ended with a zoom into Manuela's face, and the screen faded out.
After the trailer ended, Kawata pointed out the highlights in Operation Javier. "For this new episode, we decided to go with South America, which is a setting that hasn't been used in the Resident Evil series up do date," he said. "The main characters are Leon. S. Kennedy and Jack Krauser. They were foes in Resident Evil 4, but this story takes place before that time period, and you'll cooperate together as teammates."
Kawata then introduced two important storyline characters. The first was Manuela, the girl from the trailer, and the second was Javier Hidalgo. While it wasn't mentioned during the presentation, Capcom's official site gives some additional insight to the story. Javier is an internationally wanted drug lord who has absolute power over a region in South America. However, he suddenly disappears, and not long thereafter, information comes in that an ex-Umbrella Corporation researcher was spotted entering into Javier's territory. That triggers the United States to assemble a search party--led by Leon and Krauser--to find out what's happening.
After talking about the characters, Kawata went on to announce that the game will be released in Japan on January 14, more than a month after its North American release on November 27. Kawata commented that the extra time might allow for "additional measures" for its Japan launch. However, he wasn't clear on whether he meant additional game content or some kind of a preorder or retail bonus.
Kawata then introduced Cavia producer Kentaro Noguchi, whose company is developing the game. Noguchi played through a few minutes of Operation Javier, and he showed that the easy mode would feature an autolock system for novice players. Kawata then explained that while auto-lock makes it easier to hit enemies, it's not meant for advanced players because the scores won't be as high.
As Noguchi advanced through the game, Kawata explained how the developers have aimed for as much realism and advanced graphics as possible on the Wii. Aside from the graphics and textures, they've also put effort to the smaller details, such as a shaky-cam effect.
In terms of the story, there are about three times as many lines of dialogue compared to the previous Chronicles game, since the two partners often talk with each other. It was also mentioned that the game features a status screen while paused, very much like the mainstream Resident Evil action game series. In the screen, players can take their time to select a weapon and use items on damaged characters without the worry of being attacked by enemies.

This looks great. I played RE4 earlier this year, and I loved it. I might get this to see more about the what happened before that game (might also consider Umbrella Chronicles).
does anyone notice that, that south american level in the trailer looks EXACTLY like re4 in the first few levels????
cant wait! they've jacked up the fear factor when creating this remake of re2 re:code veronica by making it from a first peron view... so far its already 10/10!!! yes! :P
Would be AWESOME-ER if it wasn't for the WII. I'm sorry I mean it's nice to be leon again but 3rd person shooters are better 3rd person!
if i had a wii i might consider this... i still want to see RE4 on the 360, that with proper HD graphics would be perfect :)
i can't wait for this. a reason to play wii again. lol. i still with the 360 would have light gun shooters though because that about the only kind of game the 360 does not cover and should.
Whata bunch of bozo nerds, why cant they understand people dont want stoopid monsters and daylight, just dark areas with walking scary looking zombies is enough.
so its light gun gameplay? and didnt they do a remake of resi 2 for the GC anyway? I know they did resi ZERO and REsi 1
I think the game looks pretty good - considering that it is a Wii game. So far, a lot of developers have been lazy and haven't even tried to stretch the Wii to see exactly how much it is capable of. Capcom seem to be one of the only developers doing this, based on this and Monster Hunter Tri. Let's hope this makes other developers follow suit. I do wish that the game was a fully-fledged FPS rather than on-rails - but I love Ghost Squad and House of the Dead: Overkill, and am looking forward to this and Dead Space: Extraction. @rorrimman - "POINT and SHOOT"?. Yes, in an on-rails shooter, that's what you do. However, in a FPS you "RUN, POINT and SHOOT". so not really much different. You just get to choose where you go.
Returning to Leon and Krausser´s mission is a good aditional scenario to me. More likely Wesker´s was for the Umbrella Chronicles. Just a sidenote, if this is taking place in South America, wouldnt the characters ( I mean like Manuela) be talking in Spanish :?. Like ths Ganados of RE4
I can understand where people are coming from about this not being a TPS, but damn... this LOOKS incredible. I don't think it's going to be just another bland rail-shooter.
This looks good, hope it's as enjoyable as Umbrella Chronicles was. Always had a fondness for rail shooters, so I know I'll be buying this. Just a shame that it isn't a survival horror akin to the older RE games, but oh well, can always hope that those might come back some day. Still not used to RE being set in the day, I've always found a night setting to be more fitting. But no matter, I'm sure I'll enjoy this game just as I enjoyed Umbrella Chronicles and it's good to see that the new chapter fits in with the events of RE4 when Leon and Jack had their fight.
You already know what im going to say...................[REMAKE] Resident Evil 2/3 For Xbox 360/PS3 And that's my comment.
wow, this game have very good graphics, i thin that the will have the same power as the normal xbox, so that explain it looks very good, i hope this game is longer that RE5.
The game looks........ Ok I kinda wish they would do something other than a rail shooter. I would even prefer they make them the traditional puzzle-based way or like Outbreak (without the load times) than a rail shooter.
I'm gonna be honest, doesn't look that good. I've been pinning for the return to the more moody Resident Evil and thought this would be it, but after this trailer I'm not so sure. Guess I'll just wait for the next Silent Hill to drop. Homecoming was a better horror game than Res 5 hands down.
Rail shooter??? Meh, forget about this. Yeah, yeah, the 'game' looks somewhat good, butnot enough. Why don't make a REAL 3rd person shoother like RE4/5??? Rail shooter is a DEAD game style, wich was good for a few years, but no matter how hard capcom try (a developer trying hard to make a great wii game??? please, that ain't hapenning :P ) this genre will never as good as 1st person or 3rd person games. This is just a toy if you ask me... you finnish it one time and you don't have any reason to play it again. The replay value of this kind of game is near to zero.. not like RE4 wich i still play sometimes trying to make something sick on mercenaries, or trying to make a special waltrough over the main game... A toy.... just like 90% of Wii games.
plus I think this rail shooter will make everything more frighting cuz u cant actually run so u fight or get T virused (hell out of a verb) xD
Fu*** just saw the trailer let me tell u something this game kick some serius ass at least in what I just see, and lest be clear one more time the only difference with this game and a non rail shoot is that u cant move freely but I really dont care about that cuz lest be serius a shooter is about shooting nothing more ofcourse is good to be walking all around but this game seems very promising
come on people why raild shooters aint hardcore? cuz u cant go all the way around shooting like a freaking bastard traying to kill a roach? lest be intelligents a serius Hardcore is the meaning for something that gets u into no for something that u may think is good. and yes Lion is diferent again but hey his hair is the same as always, I think
wow. rail shooters blow, and the wii blows for doing this...again. It is such a gimmick system. rail shooters belong in arcades.
GOING....TO....BE.....F***ING....EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this looks brilliant :) man this + dead space extraction + the conduit + COD4 + Mad world really got all the dust off my wii :D
