Capcom hosts RE5 blood drive

Brain-eating zombies are often given a bad rap--on account of the brain eating, and all--but never let it be said that good work hasn't been done in their name. Today, Capcom, in partnership with the American Red Cross, said that it would be marking the March 13 launch of Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with a blood drive.

The blood drive will be held at the World of Wonder Gallery in Hollywood, California, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST. Those who willingly divest themselves of vital life fluid will have a chance to win a number of prizes, including limited-edition Resident Evil 5 Blood Drive collectibles such as posters, bumper stickers, and buttons, as well as copies of the game.

Capcom will also be raffling off a number of the red Xbox 360 Elite consoles that come bundled with a copy of Resident Evil 5, which Microsoft officially announced last week. Donation eligibility requirements can be found on the Red Cross' official Web site.

For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Resident Evil 5.

Tom Magrino has covered the games industry since 2006. He's been compared to Steve Martin by Ozzy Osbourne and Daniel Craig by Tim Schafer. His voice, heard largely on GameSpot's podcast, recalls that of Kermit the Frog. It ain't easy bein' Magreen.

I hope they check blood samples for signs of the T or G Virus.

Maybe this is foreshadowing Resident Evil 6? I bet it'll take place in California, and depict a series of towns ravaged by the remnants of Umbrella. Coincidence? I think not, even if I did live near Cali, and even if I wasn't scared like a little girl of needles, I don't want no damn T Virus in my blood. No seriously though, this is truly epic and more events of this nature need to happen. PS: I'm prob not too far off bout the T-Virus thing though

really good thing they are doing there but it just seems kinda creepy to me. but an excellent way to get blood donors, somebody should do this with a canned food drive.

@ eternity21 i agree they should give out exclusive skins if u donate blood then more ppl would show up; come on capcom give ppl an incentive other then trying to win something in a lotto

why don't they give freebies or free downloads if you donate blood...lol that would be nice ;-)

The most creative, out-of-the-blue advertising I've ever heard of in my life.

I think everyone should get something not just some people, everyone should get a limited edition poster or something small then everyone gets entered for a big prize, even people giving blood normally get a drink and a cookie, bit unfair to do it here and get nothing...

Sure, I'd give my own blood for a xbox..

Its funny... with the way they put it (the relation to capcom and one of my favourite game series, as well as a good cause) I'm actually disappointed that I can't go and give blood there (live in the UK)

I gotta say, Resident Evil 5 looks wicked, when it's out, it'll be first on my wish list, lol. But anyway I love brain eating zombies, I love gore, I love blood, I love all previous Resident Evil games, and I love next gen games (though I do have a few oldschool reuions now and then, lol!), so I'm gonna love this, I can say that this is superb even before buying it, playing it, or even looking at a demo, this is a HUGE game. If anyone is intrested, please check out my console collection, on my user page bellow, and feel free to comment.

I think this is great, they are promoting their game (as companies always do) but the are promoting it with a great cause.

That sounds so cool, but i guess the RE fans who give their blood wouldn't be able to stay up all nite on Thursday to play the new game .

Great idea. It's good to see a developer use their product for something other than profit.

RE5 is becoming one of the most over-advertised and over-hyped games this gen !!! You can't go to any games site without links for videos, news, etc for the game.

@ JoyStick69 was necessary that comment about the ps3? and why, if you think the Ps3 sucks monkey balls, then why you buy it in the first place, why not a 360... oh wait... you have money for a Ps3 but not for a 360? If you hate your Ps3 so much (if you really have one that is) then break it to pieces and throw it away, or better yet: sell it to but a X360 and stop crying. These kids are a real kick in the nuts.

The cause is awesome and so is the RED Xbox360, good for those who dont have an xbox, but as tempting as it is like the SEGA Yakuza 3 WHITE PS3 w the dragon tattoo on it(japan only), it makes no sense buying one if you already have the systems.

Well Capcom has always been in my mind one of those special developers that truly can't be replaced. So it's good to hear them doing something like this whether it's for good PR or whatever, it's still a good thing and some don't even care about reaching out this much to help a cause. Lastly, Capcom is not racist...the Republican party is :)
