Capcom descends on Lost Planet 2

Japanese publisher confirms via Xbox Live that gamers will return to EDN III; previously frozen wasteland planet now features lush jungle.

Today Capcom officially confirmed the Lost Planet news that emerged at the end of January: The publisher's 2007 third-person shooter Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is getting a sequel.

After confirming the plans to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu last month, the Japanese publisher released a video today via Xbox Live in the US that features gameplay footage, an introduction by Jun Takeuchi--the producer for Resident Evil 5 who is also overseeing production for Lost Planet 2--and a brief Q&A with the game's director, Kenji Oguro. No platforms were confirmed in the trailer, but Capcom's Keiji Inafune told Famitsu that the game would be coming to multiple platforms when it was first mentioned in January.

In the introduction and Q&A, both Oguro and Takeuchi were at pains to mention how much player feedback has affected a number of the design decisions in Lost Planet 2. Namely, the pair promise enhanced online co-op play and a story that will be told from several angles, rather than following a single protagonist. The trailer's extended gameplay segments show fights involving on-foot human troopers as well as giant mechs doing battle with enemies on the same large scale as in the original Lost Planet.

Lost Planet 2 will take place 10 years after the events in Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, and during those 10 years, EDN III appears to have undergone some serious changes. Although the trailer's gameplay segment starts in a familiar icy wasteland, the action quickly switches to what seems to be squad-based action in a dense, wet jungle. Mechs appear to be piloted by soldiers, and one trooper on the ground is equipped with a compact shield that expands when deployed to provide instant cover for his allies.

No release date was given, but Takeuchi closes with a promise to provide more information on the game "before too long."

@Onyx79 I totally agree with u. Sure more money is made sometimes with exclusive titles. but there are so many 360 gamers (myself included) who would love to play Uncharted or Heavy Rain. And PS3 people who want to play Shadow Complex or Alan Wake (forgive me if that one is on PS3). According to my friends and me (half of my friends have PS3's and half of us have 360's) a lot more money would be made if exclusiveness was no more.

i can't wait until this lost planet2 comes out

Being a strong supporter of Lost Planet XBL; the only draw back that makes itself apparent is the devision in on-line play between the original release and Colonies. Colonies should have been an market place add on, like The Lost and The Damm for GTIV, which would have allowed for cooperative play between both releases, and maybe more tweaks, without inserting separate disks. I know you can't make as much $$$ by doing this, but the loyalty would be greater. Lets face it LP XBL has the best maps, weapons and game play around. Yes! I am bias......

gobbo00 5 pts

ReluctantSnake Although I agree with your point you seem to forget that LostPlanet never sold well on the PS3. And if you have seen the trailer it's getting another game due to fan pestering (it's got a hardcore fanbase on XBL like Halo). Also I dont think LostPlanet colonies came to the PS3, I think it will come to PS3. Although it may be a timed exclusive, microsoft seem to get them a lot.

"If they are making it exclusive to the xbox 360 its probably because of the fact more people own a 360 than a PS3 so they think they will make a profit off of it, sry PS3 users" you my Friend have no understanding on the world of business think about it, they would make more money if they sold it on multiplat forms,

ok, just im sure i saw a copy in gamestation that said only on xbox 360 but i guess not.

Hedfix 5 pts

Probably due to it being made on a PC and being ported to something with PC architecture. That and it (360) has the biggest userbase of the two.

Onyx79 5 pts

Unfortunately, Capcom has confirmed that the game would be exclusive to the 360. I'm not making it up, there's an article online about it. I guess those of us with PS3s will have to wait a bit longer until the game becomes multiplatforms (Like the first Lost Planet). The exclusivity "thing" is getting silly now, why cannot all gamers enjoy the same content of multi platforms? I know it is all about money but it is a damn obvious proof that game makers do not give a f**k about the gamers anymore. We should have the choice about what to buy on which console, end of, well, that's my opinion. PS: Before the fanboys start their engines, I own all current gaming systems. Thanks a million for baring that in mind.

Hedfix 5 pts

Apparently this will have 4 player co-op. You heard it here first.

highvolts12 5 pts

@starlighthunter: Capcom doesn't do system exclusives. I mean even the first one is not a 360 exclusive. There is no reason for this one to be an exclusive, capcom is making games for all systems in order to increase their profit.

Jehuty08 5 pts

@StarlightHunter: Considering the fact that the article says it will be on multiple platforms, I'd say no.

Capcom needs to start development on Steel Battalion 2! And if they do, release an adapter that lets you use your old control panel, console, controller, whatever you wanna call it for the first Steel Battalion so you don't have to spend alot of money to play the new one. BRING BACK STEEL BATTALION!

Damnation_6 14 pts

Part 1 was great, and the multiplayer is still beeing played on Xbox live. I see potential ^^

Hedfix 5 pts

I hope we get smart raptors and dinos, hopefully this'll turn out to be what everyone wanted the new Turok to be. And co-op? Sweet!

capcom is the best this gen, developers should learn from capcom, especially the slow valve and others like rare, i dont know exactly but i think microsoft has something to do withe capcoms flourishing, maybe easy and great tools support, that is exactly what microsoft wanted developers to have, short development times, great results and of course benefits

Another multiplatform game from Capcom. Great strategy Mr. Inafune. I hope that the PC version will release too (it will be months after the consoles release). Hooray for Capcom!!

The weird thing is that I just got finished playing multiplayer on the original. From the looks of the trailer, this game looks pretty awesome. Hopefully the story makes sense this time.

Halo 3 Recon and now Lost Planet 2? Amazing! The new trailer is mind blowing! I cant wait for this!

PS3_3DO 5 pts

Do you think MS put some money down to make it a timed exclusive?

puppiemaster 5 pts

First one was really hard, hope this ones a bit easier.

travisstaggs 6 pts

I liked the first one alright hope this ones better seems like capcoms keeping busy lately

maverick_76 5 pts

They should focus on more realism in this game, the first time I saw a trailer for Lost Planet at the movies I remember thinking that game would be awesome! The first was alright but could have been so much more. I hope the new one is better.

FlashCharge 6 pts

the developers will have to do a lot to convince gamers to buy this game. The first one was any thing but a hit. Not looking forward to this sequel.

shadowkiller11 5 pts

the first was great hopefully this is better.

doomsoth 5 pts

No thanks, I'll stick with SF4 and RE5.

halosniper52 5 pts

The 1st one was really not that good was ok. Now the 2nd one here looks good and all saw the trailer but I don't have high hopes for it.

@ LlamaKing i guess the best place would be CAPCOM-UNITY.COM forums and leave it in there hands. maybe all those suggestions will be put to good use. it does seem to me that they have been reading what the messages say and are activly involved on the forums there.

Un4givingAsault 5 pts

Game = Bad, butchered a cool concept and has the least inspiring story.

HOLIDAYdoc360 5 pts

ya i dont know about were to send suggestions to, maybe ill take a look around and see. me and you have played many matches together we know all to well what the problems are. and another is hit detection is so out of time its laughable,

Viral-venom13 6 pts

This should be interesting, i just hope they fix and improove on many of the issues that plagued the 1st all the while bringing new and innovative gameplay 2 the sequel!!

R3NeGaDeAnGeL 5 pts

Let's hope the boss battles will be as insane as in the last game...did you see that footage with the giant lizard looking boss and its weird tongue? Simply awesome...

theLlamaKing 5 pts

@HOLIDAY The no VS option is a good idea. Is there a place where we can send all suggestions and/or feedback instead of putting it up here where no one from Capcom will probably read it?
