Osaka game company cans Xbox 360 and PlayStation downloadable game; axed for "various" uncited reasons.
The Blue Bomber is feeling the blues. Capcom has announced it has canceled Mega Man Universe, the 2011-dated title announced last July.
The news stems from an official message from the Osaka game company (via Siliconera) posted on its website. The cancellation message states the title was canned for "various" reasons, but the note does not elaborate further.
Announced in July, Mega Man Universe was the brainchild of series producer Kenji Inafune and was to be a 2D platformer that afforded gamers the ability to create levels and customize characters from the Capcom universe. GameSpot went hands-on with the game at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show, where the game’s execution was found to be "pretty rough."
I know this is on the same vein of what others have said, but I need to vent it: CAPCOM! What the hell are you doing?! You have a strong fan base for a solid series of games (that, might I add, have stuck with you through a few notable rough periods), and despite holding your own convention give us no word on Megaman. Meanwhile you pull 9 and 10 from the Playstation Network, don't include Megaman in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and cancel your newest promising looking title in the same quarter it was supposed to be released! This was entirely without warning, and you are starting to significantly anger a long time fan.
Has Mega Man become a bad cassarole Capcom just wants to tuck in the fridge and forget about? I don't get it... this seemed like such an imaginative Mege Man to come along since Legends.... Oh well. Hopefully they'll think twice next time they make a weird assded commercial like that and get people hooked....
First a Megaman incarnation's not playable in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 now they cancel MM Universe, wow. About MvC3 I'm aware they casted Zero and Tron but I suspect additional rights came with Megaman, perhaps they would've had to pay Mr. Inafune more, who knows. I'm convinced that Megs omission wasn't supposed to happen, same goes for Strider. I don't buy that whole "Keiji likes Zero better!" bs line either. Next thing they're going to tell me is Inafune prefers Tron over Megaman, BULL CRAP! The Zero excuse would have held weight had not Tron made it in instead of Megaman. This is Capcom spitting in Megaman fans face! The same fans who helped put food on their table.
@yomanjdf- You are showing your young age. Megaman is nothing like Mario at all. I can tell you did not grow up in the NES days.
Hope they have another MegaMan game to replace this, I would love to see at least one more BattleNetwork for Dsi...
@yomanjdf wait.... what? megaman is a mario ripoff? where did you get this idea? because they're both side scroll?
I think they should reasle a big HD collection for ps3 everything game on blu ray disc. So gamespot if you reading this pass this on to capcom to make it happen and get what the fans wants
it was canned coz all you kids will create uber characters capable of 1hit kills & levels which enemies cant even touch your character...lmao
he only spoke the truth, a huge percentage of games made these days all seem like carbon copies of others. i commend him for having the guts to stand up to the industry and speak his mind. as for mega man universe, i dont think the game was finished when he left and with him gone, nobody's been dedicated enough to stay focused on the project, hence the canning. its a shame, i was really looking forward to have some serious fun with the the level creation tool.
capcom is really trying hard to p people off i think. maybe they think more hate = more sales? seems to work for activsion i guess:P
too bad...though inafune left it ad some fun concepts. however im sure well see something with 25th anniversary on the way =D
Also; "Various" reasons? These reasons being that the majority of the talent that was once in Capcom has left the company?
@Raxyman Agreed, the only reason I even brought it up is because I rarely ever see anyone calling X6 "one of the best in the series". I've been playing Mega Man since Mega Man 2. To me, X6 promised so much since it had a lot to go from after X5's ending. Instead of building upon what could have been the start of an amazing story, Capcom totally butchered it. In my mind X6 will always be the little game that could have... but sadly, DIDN'T.
@Zophar87 Alright then, i can't agree with you and you can't agree with me (though Shieldner Sheldon is a good music). I liked X6, it really was a great game to me, but then i'm not a diehard fan of megaman and the only older game i've played pther than x6 is Megaman 8, so... In fact the only thing i like that series is Zero, as i said, i would buy an Zero game in the blink of an eye. To finish, we both have our opinions, we managed to discuus them without entering a flame war, so it's already a win in this current world. I could see your view point, but i won't stop thinking X6 was one of the best on the series.
@Raxyman Typical Japanese Heavy Metal. It's all over the place with no timing. If you're going to attempt to play Heavy Metal then please do so with a click. It just hurts my head. X6 had some memorable themes and that wasn't one of them. Memorable X6 Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ntlhMakCgk
@julianozuca That's a good point! I'm not too confident in Mega Man Legends 3 any time soon; I don't see it being a big seller, especially if it's a $60 retail release. Mega Man 11 can fly easily, but I'm not into the 8-bit stuffs, even though I grew up with them. I still liked Mega Man 8 the best, and I'd like to see them get back to a more modern style, while maintaining identical controls to the NES series.
@Zophar87 Wait wait wait, Lousy music? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xxj1vC_614s Anyone reading this please, listen this music, tell me if it's horrible. The bosses was smart, you couldn't just rush and beat, you had to understand how to beat them. And the story, well, i can't stand up for that one, the story wasn't amazing, actually it was kinda crappy. But overall it was a good game. At least in my opinion.
@Raxyman X6 was the weakest of the PSX Mega Man games. It's music was hard on my ears, the bosses were pretty terrible, and the story was a butchered mistranslation. The Japanese release of X6 was really good, but the NA release completely destroyed it.
@Zophar87 you serious about that? Megaman X6 for ps1? It was the best in my opinion, what about it you didn't liked it?
Well, this sucks. Hopefully none of the reasons were to get back at Keiji Inafune for jumping ship so suddenly with so many projects left hanging. (not to mention the comment about the Japanese game industry...yikes)
aww that is too bad any game that allows you to make your own levels and stuff for it would be cool sad to see it go!
So there's no new Mega Man this year, what's that two years in a row now? It's hard being a Mega Man fan.
I was willing to give the game a try at least. Ah well. Maybe now we can get Megaman 11 or Megaman X, in HD. I'd rather have that or Legends 3 then another lame Network game.
