C.u.n.t.ye West....yeah. Damn CoD is turning into a halfway house for washed out "rappers". Bloody hell...
Chart-topping rapper to close out first-person shooter series' inaugural fan convention in Los Angeles area next month.
When Activision Blizzard has a game to promote, it doesn't shy away from booking top-dollar musical talent. Blizzard has booked acts like Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, Tenacious D, and Ozzy Osbourne to headline its BlizzCon festival in recent years. Meanwhile corporate counterpart Activision has brought the likes of Eminem and Jay-Z to its recent E3 showings and today confirmed that Kanye West will close out the first Call of Duty XP festival next month.
The event is being advertised as West's first public appearance since the release of his collaboration with fellow rapper Jay-Z, Watch the Throne. Attendance at the performance is guaranteed for all of the expected 6,000 Call of Duty XP attendees.
Set to take place on a 12-acre compound in Los Angeles September 2-3, Call of Duty XP 2011 will serve as a coming-out party for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer mode. Attendees will be able to get their hands on the game's cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes, as well as check out the fully functioning Elite service for the first time.
Beyond the reveals, the convention will also play host to a $1 million Call of Duty tournament, with players able to qualify on-site or by competing in regional Black Ops contests leading up to XP 2011. There will also be paintball competitions on a life-sized multiplayer map and panels with Call of Duty developers. While attendance is going to be capped at a little over 6,000, Activision has promised that a "constant stream" of videos, photos, and status updates will be released through TV and online outlets for those unable to make it. It's unclear if West's performance will be part of that content.
Tickets to Call of Duty XP 2011 will cost $150 each, with all proceeds going to the Call of Duty Endowment, which was created to assist veterans in their transition back to civilian life after service. In addition to attendance at the event and Kanye West performance, all ticket holders will receive a free copy of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition when the game goes on sale November 8, as well as an attendee-exclusive goodie bag.

They could not find someone able to conform to rules and proper respect for others. I would not like him to tell me which weapon to use during the game nor interrupt me when selecting. Very poor!.
I just need to know one thing --- is Kanye West in the game?? cos the last thing I need is someone ***interrupting*** me while I'm saving the world :(
I wonder if the CoD goodie bag includes ear plugs. Apparently Activision decided to skimp on the talent this year.
@txgamerwavg I'd take Hans Zimmer over Kanye West anyday. $15 says Kanye is gonna go bats##t crazy when the concert gets interrupted by gunfire
I don't care for Kanye much. His earlier music was decent, but he needs to grow up. His mother would have slapped him upside his head if she was still alive. As for this even, I'm not paying $150 for that show. It is for a good cause, but I'm just not interested in attending. I have better things to do.
The only thing standing in their way from becoming another Billion dollar gross is us and even if they have this concert/competition thing..but they should now that there is fanboy-ism in games...it's like..U have the money u buy the game' and believe me people are gonna get BF3 and some people will get MW3 and most people will most probably get both...my point is, there's no need to have this thing..if your game is good then let it speak for itself...Publicity is important but not to a game that had like 7 games in the franchise and they're not buying anyone on this helping-veterans gimmick...If they wanted to help the veterans, they could have done it YEARS ago..and that my friend is the bottom line :P
Activision - "Before we let you guys watch another teaser trailer we have for you, here's Kaaaaanye Weeeeest!" Audience - "Booooo" Kanye - "Don't hate me because I'm a gay fish" Yep, another COD fail...bringing advertising and gimmicks instead of improving their game.
Watch The Throne was so-so. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was actually a great album, and I'm not even a rap fan, but the way any samples used were implemented and the instrumentation was something special. That being said, this seems strange. I'm interested to see how Activision reacts to what seems like is going to be a big drop in sales due to this hype for hating CoD. Some of it is warranted, post-MW or MW2 got too samey despite those actually being quality games, and I agree that gamers should let them know they won't buy the same thing twice, even if the formula is actually quite good (but now stale). ''Tickets to Call of Duty XP 2011 will cost $150 each, with all proceeds going to the Call of Duty Endowment, which was created to assist veterans in their transition back to civilian life after service." At least all the proceeds are going to help real people right?
Wow all of you are obviously ignorant idiots and know nothing about Kanye West besides what you hear in the press. Kanye is actually a really good performer and makes great music. As I recall..Kanye's last solo outing "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is the greatest critically rated album of all time and is a masterpiece.
That's lame... why they don't focus on the game inst-- Kanye: Yo man, I'm really happy for you and I'm' let you finish but Bmxnick766 has the best comment of all time, OF ALL TIME!
If i had to choose music to represent a Call of Duty game it sure as heck wouldn't be Kanye. That's like me suggesting Barry Manilow to represent a Call of Duty game. It's just out of left field. Now if they had All Shall Perish, or a huge act like Metallica representing the game THAT type of music makes more sense. Really intense rocking or or voice modulation.... Hmmm not a hard choice.
I saw kanye live about 3 months ago with kid cuddi. great show. No question. If you hate on kanye, you probably don't like rap, so get over that. I will not be buying this game.
Kanye is a good rapper and cod of duty is a boring game. Do the math, just because Kanye is performing won't make the game any better thats up to activision and infinity ward not kanye. And speaking of kanye, he should be at a battlefield 3 convention.
Kanye West performance ? like u playing and Kanye West come from no where and pouch u then says "beyonce is the best singer of all time u mother ******kaaaaa! " damnit activation , who run this company ? Bugs Bunny ? lol
They are pathetic. Is Madonna going to sing a song in game when a medic is healing you? I'll personally go with Battlefield3 without hesitation this round. Regarding COD, I'll wait for the reviews and be very surprised if it stands to the Modern Warfare 1 and 2 reputation.
I'm not critizicing the game, but the attidude of Activision. They think they will sell more copies just because they hired some rapper to promote the game? It may prove that their intention with CoD franchise is now only moneymaking, and not to entertain buyers.
Poor Booby KoDick. He wants SO very badly to become a famous cleb. Cameo's in movies, pathetic rappers at conventions. I guess his next move will be to move in with Charlie Sheen so he get some tiger blood too. I sure hope BF 3 pays off cause I'm all in. Enough of this childish CoD crap.
I think Activision should stick to what they're supposed to be doing. Music clearly isn't their strong point. The only plastic (w)rapper they should bother with is the one covering the box of a game, ready for purchase.
