In light of rocky launch for stat-tracking social network, Activision automatically extending paying members' subscription terms by 30 days.
Call of Duty: Elite, Activision's social network built around tracking statistics of the publisher's annual military shooter franchise, launched alongside Modern Warfare 3 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the service has encountered a number of issues and continues to be down more often than not, but Activision is not turning a blind eye to the problem.
The Elite website's status page was updated today with a note that all premium members will receive a 30 days extension on their year subscription in recompense for the rocky start. This follows days of downtime and a delay of the PC version of the service.
The official update assures users that all of their match stats are being stored and actual game performance is not being affected by the issues surrounding Elite. The problems are isolated to the use of the front end of the stat-tracking service, and more servers are being added to increase capacity. Until that time, Activision will be limiting access to the service via the Web and console applications, with priority going to paid members.

i called gamestop and they already have used copies hahaha. i would wait for it to go down in price but the next one comes out next year. so why get it at all.
Most of the features on this service are free - why anyone would spend money on the subscription is beyond me
isnt what you have to pay for free on most other games eg heat maps on halo etc. i would understand the maps idea if it was cheaper to buy them in bulk but it isnt. just another money spinner for activision
@StJimmy15 It is free. Well 95% of it. I'm assuming you have no idea what paying for the service actually gets you. Very sad.
So what you're saying is we get a month free for a service that should've been free anyway? And its the 13th month which means the next CoD will be out and will be essentially useless....
While we can hardly blame Activision for the downtime directly, they knew how many people were paid subscribers and should have foreseen the demand on the servers. It's kind of obvious if you have say 1000 subscribers that the system should at least be able to cope with 1000 people (not to mention all the free users!)
@Barighm *Bobby Kotick sees comment* "Hey, this guy is selling toenails! We should do that, but instead of 10 for $1, it should be $50 for 1!"
$50 a year for the lower quality maps they didn't put in the game and some extremely un-funny "original shows"...totally logical (Not necessarily bashing MW3 either, I was pleasantly surprised that MW3 shipped with 16 maps on disc, at least they did something I can appreciate)
At least they're trying to make up for it. This really impresses me considering the reputation Activision has.
to everyone complaining that they have "wasted their money", if you havent even used the service yet how do you know you wasted your money? I was part of the Elite beta program and its pretty awesome, once activision finally gets its sh*t together you will be glad you subscribed. just getting the dlc for free will make up for the extra 50 bucks. However there is no excuse for the rocky start of this service, when I was talking to activision support they said they werent expecting over a million people to try and log in at once... are you F!@$ing serious!? I dont believe that for a second, they seriously dropped the ball on this one, and I dont think an extra month of service makes up for it, Id rather have a full day of double xp or a couple bonus prestige tokens. that being said at least they are making an effort, I never thought Id hear the words free and activision in the same paragraph much less the same sentence.
I got suckered into buying Elite by some friends of mine.. they said it was worth it, I bought it, and now I'm upset that I didn't payoff my preorder of AC: Revelations.. Stupid, stupid me :(
I brought the elite version .. think about ya complain about map packs being xpensive but ya buy it anyways. Pay 50 xtra($100 right from the get) and get the dlc early for the feens and monthly for 9 moths straight.. Now my question is... Do we get the DLC's for free, Discounted ? that im confused about.. Either than that havent played it yet, Bz with Uncharted 3 and Batman 2.. Enjoy gamers!
who cares about elite.....worry about giving us a better game...MW3 could have been a DLC, come up with something better and stop soaking the public with this crap....
Dear Activision, We don't give a s*** about Elite. Start making a proper next gen CoD and then we'll talk. Sincerely, The-people-who-stopped-buying-CoD-ever-since-MW2
@toonsim2 well you know Activision and EA are 2 really greedy compagnie so you can't expect that from them. Do you really think they will pay for load of servers to be sure they won't have any problem. I'm sure they don't mind some problems like this, easier for them to add servers if needed and it most likely cost them least that way.
For once, just once I would love to see something go off without a hitch when it comes out. It was the same with Battlefields dodgy servers aswell. There is no reason these problems can't be prevented.
i was boycotting MW3 ,the day it was realeased i regretted not pre-ordering , long story short i ran around looking for the hardened edition with no luck .... looks like the $100.00 i saved will be put down on the STAR WARS console IM so Excited.... and yes BF3 is great !!! have fun this year with MW3 ill wait a couple years to come back to COD!!!!
@megafitch They're giving something away for free like toddx77 said, so how are they milking their customers?
beyond all this outcry for the stupid call of duty elite, i can't for the life of me figure out why people buy the dlc anyway, all it does is all for publishers to release a game at roughly 85% completion for $60 and make you pay an additional $40-50 or something for the last 15%, honestly i firmly believe that we should all just start abusing gamestop's rental policy just so publishers will make less money, maybe then they will learn a lesson
If people really want this, then just get the Free version.... http://www.callofduty.com/elite/whats-included
Wait..what? Whoah,whoah,whoah..hold up....there will actually still be support for Mw3 14 months from now? I thought surely Activision would be launching pre-orders and dlc for the next CoD for people to spend $108 on....
WTF!?! I tried to subscribe but could not even log in to do so, so I now they will say I wasn't a subscribe and will not get the free month!!! well... guess what. I simply wont waste my money. they have proved they can not even milk DLC correctly.
uh who cares? you still have to pay $8 a month afterwards... man they try every little tactic to sucker idiots into paying an MMO subscription for stats and leaderboards. such scumbags; and so many people are willing to pay these moneygrubbers
paying upfront for DLC before its released seems like a dumb idea to me. Who knows what the quality will be like. Judging from the release of MW3 and this Elite, I highly doubt it will be anything special. Just another way for Activision to make a quick buck.
I have it and still haven't used it right now, it is useless to me, The only reason I have it is because it came with the hardened edition and the reason I have that edition is because I bought it off someone for $70. If I didn't have this edition I don't think I would of ever bought it because it is just a huge waste of money. Only good thing about it is the monthly DLC.
@Barighm Stat-tracking toe nail clippings...People buy em so that they know how many toe nail clippings they have. Lol.
As if it's not bad enough paying $60 for a game that was put out two years ago, now people are willingly giving Activision more money for a useless monthly service
@Montrovant1488 I'm not as surprised. Just look at how many people went crazy over Modern Warfare 3 alone - nothing more than a mod of the past titles. It only makes sense that the same morons would start paying monthly for services that should always be free.
I really can't believe people are paying for this, who'd be foolish enough to pay for something as pointless as this "elite" subscription (if you like the game that's cool). If this thing really gets some positive reaction, I guess I'll have to re-define and widen my definition of "consumerist, illiterate, dumb _____" Well, guess GS will delete this, as it deletes everything that goes against its sponsors (guy's gotta make a living, and objectivity is something long lost when faced by hard cold cash).
even though I think paying for the elite is stupid, it's still nice that Activision is making up for the rough start.
