Call of Duty Elite content drops detailed

Activision lays out Modern Warfare 3 DLC release schedule for premium subscribers; plan calls for 12 new maps, six missions, and two modes through September.

Activision has said Call of Duty Elite subscribers would be getting at least 20 "content drops" over the course of the program's first year. Thanks to a content calendar on the official Call of Duty website, gamers know now exactly what type of add-ons they can expect and when.

Beginning with this week's debut of two new maps for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Elite subscribers will get access to a dozen new playfields, six new missions, and two new gameplay modes in monthly waves through September. Every month will see at least one new map made available, while new missions will debut in March, May, June, August, and September. The wait for new modes will be a little longer, with the first not appearing until June and the second dropping in August.

While the content calendar only applies to Elite subscribers, the same assortment of maps, missions, and modes will eventually be offered to all Modern Warfare 3 players. The first "content collection" will go on sale for Xbox 360 players in March, with PC and PlayStation 3 releases to follow at an unspecified later date.

The Call of Duty Elite subscription service reached the 1 million paid users milestone within the first month of its November launch. Elite provides players with gameplay statistics, video sharing, and clan support features for free. Those who shell out for the $50 annual subscription will also receive all downloadable content released in the year, as well as exclusive video content and other perks.

    I dont mind paying for CoD map packs (or any other DLC) if they have good ratings and the maps are decent. To be fair you get a lot of use out of them. But Elite effectively doubles the cost of mw3 and you dont know what you're going to recieve. I'm not up for blindly paying for content. It's not right. They should make all maps available to download seperately as soon as they are released on Elite. I've bought nearly all of the DLC in the CoD series so far, and I really want the new ones but I have to put my foot down on Elite. Activision are really starting to take it too far.

    If Activison keeps on screwing their customers over like this (which they most likely will), Call of Duty will meet the same fate as Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero.

    Imagine what they'll do later. "Call of Duty 12 is out now! And as usual, PS3 users will have to wait just 2 years later to get our DLC, only $100 per pack, the first pack featuring a WHOLE map! And all new Trip Out Warfare mode, where random DirectX effects will change randomly and flash on screen as if you were doing drugs, just like us!"

    Seriously, I have COD, but I've decided not to play FPS games like BF3, COD etc. because of things like campers, being killed from miles away and the sheer amount of lag.

    Why do people get so hot and bothered over every COD story?

    I just don't get it. People would pay for the chance just to write there witty comment. Why do people invest so much time into hating something? It scares me how games that deserve lots of comments and views gets over looked because people want to spam COD post. Do you guys even read the stories anymore? I mean really. I hardly read anything about the actual post in the comments.

    I think i'm done reading comments on COD post. They are just full of trash.

    and we all know we wanna see zombies a MODERN DAY ZOMBIES!!! we see it constantly in movies.. why do they gotta be zombies.. obviously Illuminati were involved and the nazi party but dont you think someone held a secret and held it through the ages.. past secrets get dug up all the time history always repeats itself.. so how hard is it to have an infection survival mode like nazi zombies.. if there not nazi's then theres no copywrite infringement.. im pretty sure george romero isnt gonna come to your door step and pull a jay and silent bob on you guys.. he created em and theres been so many twists to the zombie genre.. so what gives.. If even one person buys it and loves it then you've done your job correct.. well that way of thinking is old.. lets try getting 5 people to like it.. sell to the majority sell to what people want.. its not hard its all data and polygons.. whole reason we got to the moon is cause some guy had the idea right.. so what the hell... have some balls

    Can we get a freezetag mod? like how quake 3 arenas was.. I think it would be tight just saying.. you shoot enemy players to freeze them and stand by them for 3 seconds to unthaw u can be awarded points for each.. after the whole team is frozen you get point.. first to 15 wins.. and while your frozen be stuck in blocks of ice.. or make it like you have to revive them while holding square to thaw.. either way.. do the game modes.. something different.. and especially online for CLAN CHALLENGE OPERATIONS.. WTF!!! and instead of the same challenges.. TD with most assists.. KC with most denies/confirms w.e throw a twist on it u dont have to make the prizes crazy.. and earliar enlistment times.. and better moderators for the enlistments iv caught people boosting countless times.. thanks and appreaciated... you dont bother to ask about what hte people want.. and we better be rewarded damn and quick for the clan operations.. whole reason i wanted elite.. so we could have actually clan leaderboards and matches... your grabbing the money and running i dont care if the worlds ending in december.. have some dignity we all know the hours you put in for creating of a game.. but when you charge a 100 a pop and half of it is urinated turds.. stamped with c.o.d. and another thing with black ops 2 just dont use the same crap from the first black ops.. give me different camo for my guns and call it a new game.. you allready rape our pockets.. have some pride in your work.. americas gotten away from that damn lobbyist obama had a great point in his st. of the union speach.. by the people for the people of the people right so lets work together and create something great

    I don't think PS3 is region locked anyway. Anything you DL to your PS3 should work for every account you have on that PS3.

    This will be the demise of GS, over promoting a game. Soon we all will feel like that GS is shoving CoD down our throat. End result, No one will trust their reviews, well i dont anyways. GT is way better

    can you subscribe elite on a alt account and download the dlc for your main account? need to know it before even considering subscribing because psn store isnt available for my country and i was too dumb to create a account with my real country, obviously i couldnt know that sony isnt offering store eveywhere

    oh well, this is how you grow business.
    problem is not with activision, like many here make it seems like. problem is with the people who are buying this big "S###". activision is making money. they know that they can charge what ever they like, and people will follow... like sheeps. basically, you pay 120 bucks for a game... at the same time, every other game, costs 60.

    i think, this will destroy gaming market. other companies will follow one way or enother. customer will keep buying, one way or enother

    Does anybody remember that one article that said something to the effect of "Valve set to release future DLC for Portal 2...for free"...? Damn, that was an awesome day. I'm dead serious does anybody remember where they were on that day? When I read that article I was eating a very tasty sandwhich. Wish their we're more days like that!

    This is killing all creativity in the shooter genre. I have not bought or even considered buying MW3 and if i was going to i would get it used so activision would not get my money.

    Well...I guess if you're into COD and buy all the DLC anyways, Elite is a rather nice thing to give to the gamers then. I finally see how it works, and that's a pretty nice deal considering you would have paid 50 bucks anyways just for like three map packs. And Elite members get stuff every month? Damn. If only I actually like COD.

    Silly Gamespot. Zombies mode is a Treyarch thing. We'll be seeing that in Black Ops 2 not Modern Warfare 3.

    Er...I mean...

    It's just maps, nothing but maps. COD doesn't do new guns and perks. If you were expecting new guns and perks, you might as well start being disappointed right now.

    The new modes are problably the other Private match excluseive modes anyway(Juggernaut and Infection) for Public playlists.

    US$15 per "drop" for everyone else that is not a die-hard Call of Duty fan.

    (P.S. Die-hard Call of Duty fans would already have signed onto premium-subscription Elite.)

    I thought they were putting out 12 maps this month, I was like damn CoD you are really coming through for the people who bought this Elite crap.... But then I read a little and it is the complete opposite. What a shame, $50 wasted for what could have gotten you a whole other game.

    It's not all cracked up to be. Your basically shelling out $50 bucks for 12 maps, and a couple missions. In Black Ops, they charged $15 for 5 maps a piece, some zombies. These guys are just rolling in money. Shame on them.

    Well, I didn't buy mw3. I already have 6 cod games for xbox 360. On COD WAW, the 3 DLC packs cost $30 total with 9 new MP maps & 3 new zombie maps. So for $50 u get 12 maps, six new missions, & 2 new game modes. What a rip off IMHO. They already made serious bank off the game in sells. Greedy greedy greedy. On COD Black Ops, I didn't buy no map packs at all. I refuse to buy DLC for a game that made a lot of money. I won't buy DLC for COD when they sell 20 million units +. My 2 cents.

    lol i like how they always try to make it sound like you're getting a good deal for getting elite... oh pay $50 a year to have access to our website and couple maps and game modes! (that shouldve been put in the disk from the get go)

    I just bought MW3 yesterday only to find out elite is not for the PC version. I wasn't going to pay for it but us PC gamers have the same right to get ripped off as console gamers do lol.

    I am very excited about R6P and will be playing that, but it will not be coming out until 2013. For me I am more into the tactical/3rd person/cover system base games...I don't have to rely on fast reflexes to be good especially when old age has set in. LOL

    I am so glad that I am getting away from FPS (for the most part)...I only play R6V2, but waiting for Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Mass Effect 3. The only FPS I might be interested in is Far Cry 3 and Colonial Alien Marines...I having nothing to do with COD and BF3..enough is enough. I didn't mind BF3 but I just really couldn't get into it.

    The Unspecified date for PC/PS3 owners is 30 days later, not sure why ACTI doesn't tell users....I hope the Elite subscribers are ready for this years' COD9 : BO2 and to renew into the cycle again.

    Cutoff point is September, because around that time a new COD is scheduled for the end of the year. Cycle repeat.

    Neat...as much as I prefer the Xbox I don't think it's fair that even paying elite subscribers have to wait longer for download drops on PS3. If they pay for elite they should get it the same time.

    Still no word on how much longer we actually have to wait for PS3 Elite members to get it? (I find it ludicrous that the calendar doesn't even give both dates... They really aren't showing any love for PS3 players who shelled out money and put blind faith in their service)
