Call of Duty 4 sweeps Golden Joystick Awards
Activision's shooter takes home three Game of the Year awards at UK ceremony.
With no BAFTA Video Game Awards due to take place in the UK until early 2009, Future's Golden Joystick Awards are a chance for publishers and developers to get their hands on a gong or two. Last year saw Gears of War rewarded as Ultimate Game of the Year, with Assassin's Creed highlighted as the "One to Watch."
The 2008 awards took place today in London, with awards based on more than 850,000 public votes. It seems to be the year of the sequel: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare won Activision four awards in total, with Metal Gear Solid 4 picking up PlayStation Game of the Year and Grand Theft Auto IV winning Xbox Game of the Year. Fallout 3 is this year's Most Wanted, and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock won the Family Game of the Year, to continue the trend of franchises rather than original IP winning the big awards.
