Bungie releases Destiny concept art

Halo maker issues official screenshot from studio's upcoming title; confirmed details in leaked marketing document outing story and concept art details as authentic.

Halo maker Bungie has released an official screenshot from its upcoming game, rumoured to be titled Destiny.

The screenshot, posted on Bungie's official site, came as a response to a leaked marketing document reportedly provided to IGN by a reader, which outed story details and concept art from the upcoming game.

According to IGN, Bungie has confirmed that the document was prepared by an advertising agency and that it provides authentic details surrounding the game's plot.

"We weren't quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can't wait to finally show you what we've really been up to," Bungie wrote on its official site. "Stick around, we haven't even started yet."

The leaked document describes Destiny as a "fun and accessible" game with a "deep, tangible and relatable" universe that is compared to the Star Wars franchise. The game is also described as "social at its core."

A Bungie spokesperson commented on the leaked document, telling IGN: "We're not quite ready to take the wraps off our next universe, but in light of recent events we thought we'd give fans something a little more official over at Bungie.net. Feel free to drop by and say hello! There's much more to come."

According to the document, Destiny's plot revolves around an alien ship bent on destroying Earth and the "knights" tasked with defending what's left of humanity. The document also shows images bearing the Destiny logo along with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 icons.

Destiny is Bungie's first project as part of a 10-year publishing deal with Call of Duty company Activision. Legal documents from May suggested that the game will be released for the Xbox 360 in 2013, with a 2014 release slated for the PlayStation 3.

I just wonder if the name "Joyeuse" will be used.

The art at least indicates that this could have potential. I hope it doesn't just sink to the level of ALL THE OTHER FPSs out there...

wait, so people see guy in scary armor and think it's a killzone ripoff?

I get the symbol on the pauldron, but the helmet, tank, weapons are nothing like Helghan design. Besides Killzone is a ripoff of Jin Roh and both are caricatures of certain Waffen SS divisions.

Anyways, cool art. I don't know how "alien ship bent on destroying Earth" is "relatable" but that advertising firm seems to of used every buzzword short of visceral.

Bungie is legit and art is all about imitation.  That being said, this concept art is extremely close to Killzone.  Especially considering that the emblem on the characters left shoulder is basically identical to the Helghan symbol.  That, coupled with the eerily similar helmet/mast, reeks of Killzone.  The snowy environment just adds even more of a Killzone 3 element.

@kenne303  Long story short:  the makers of 12 Monkeys got in trouble with the artist Lebbeus Woods for copying one of his artworks, called "Neomechanical Tower (Upper) Chamber" and managed to get a six-figure sum for it.

So, maybe 'art is all about imitation', but it's still not right to not at least give credit where it's due. In this case, Jin-Roh. I mean, What if H. R. Giger never got credit for Alien, and people never knew about his great works, would that be right?

What depressed me about these comments is that people think this is from Killzone, or something, All these concept designs are older then you think.

For one thing, Killzone ripped-off Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade:

And I can see some of the designs were taken from Patlabor, Dragon's Heaven, Macross and others:

Nothing here is new, all of it was made from anime first, and it feels like I'm the only one who knows this. Which just depresses me.

I wonder if "Destiny" is going to be a 1st Person Shooter or a 3rd Person Shooter.

Perhaps Bungie should have tried their hands at a completely different genre, instead of sci-fi and shooting; you know, just to see what other creative works they could come up with.

Well, maybe the company is sticking to their strong points with another sci-fi shooter.

Besides, "Activision" most likely wants to make MONEY from their contract with Bungie (nothing wrong with that, honestly), so a more familiar sci-fi shooter would stand to make the company more money, than a riskier "Creative" endeavor of a different genre (at least in the eyes of Activision).

But please, don't take my word for it on anything. I am 100% just speculating here. "Destiny" is far from being completed and released to the public, so we all could be very pleasantly surprised by the end result.

That is, as long as it does not tank like "Too Human" did, LOL!

Okay, my rambling is over now.....

@dkdk999  It's not from Killzome, it's from Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. look it up.

@Hrodwulf666 a plush kitty and a box of caramels, but if that's too much then maybe a great game that's better than face value.

I love how this game is coming to xbox before ps3, developers realize how much better the xbox is.

@SangheliZealotX Nope, actually Microsoft still has some stock left in bungie. They have some control over bungie still.

@SangheliZealotX  @Rivboets7 You would actually be surprised how many copy's All Stars sold. As the rather active online community would attest too. But then again your just trying to get a rise out of people so genuine logic will do me no good. To put it simply, Obvious troll is obvious.

@Rivboets7 fine, fact: ps all stars sold almost nothing

 @SangheliZealotX

If you want to play like that then technically the PS All Stars fact was a lie.  It sold at least one copy so that automatically makes your argument not true.

BryanBadillo

@SangheliZealotX thats not true, im a big xbox fan but the real reason why bungie is releasing the xbox version first is because its their first game on the ps3 and probably they want to be sure that it works at 100%.

@Sndewey When did anyone say this was an Xbox exclusive? Bungie are no longer part of Microsoft and their pre-release information for this game suggests both Xbox 360 and PS3. ;)

I wish Bungie would return to the world of Marathon. Those games were pretty ace, and rife for story expansion.
