Bethesda pushes up release date for Splash Damage-developed postapocalyptic shooter by a week; Euro release coming May 13.
When on the brink, sometimes things fall just a bit early. Such is the case for Splash Damage's new intellectual property Brink, as Bethesda Softworks announced today that the game's release has been pushed up to May 10 in North America, a week earlier than its previously scheduled May 17 launch. In Europe, Brink will now be available on May 13. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
According to Bethesda, the game is being released early due to its sooner-than-expected completion. Brink is Splash Damage's second game, following on from its well-regarded debut Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, from 2007. Splash Damage was also behind the free download Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, a multiplayer mode released by id Software after the single-player version of the game was canceled.
Brink takes place in the year 2035 in a floating city called The Ark following the Earth's near-total destruction. Two warring factions, the Security and the Resistance, are going head-to-head for control of the city. After choosing sides in the fight, players will have to pick from a variety of classes (engineer, medic, and so on) and complete specific mission objectives related to those roles.
The game will also place an emphasis on parkour-style movement through its dynamically changing maps, as well as character customization options. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
I think a lot of people are going to choose the resistance instead of security; still looks fun though! :)
So what sucks is that because the date was moved gamestop isn't doing a midnight release even thoughthey met the qualifying amount of reserves...
This game's going to rock. Finally something new being brought to the table rather than the stale, recycled call of duty formula. I've had it preordered since early march and been interested in it since about october, so it's been a long wait and now it's coming close! I can't wait!
Pretty awesome, but I might hold off on this game for awhile. I'm still far more interested in L.A. Noire.
P2P on console looks like this might be a steam purchase at some point down the road. I will still get it on the xbox though when released.
I am very glad it is coming out a week early! hopefully it is going to be a revolutionary game. Like what I see so far for sure. I have a sneaking suspicion as to why it was moved........Rockstar may have a really cool looking game coming out May 17.........cough cough L.A. Noire..........
I'm realy glad that it's coming out a week earlier than announced. Pre-ordered it an hour ago, can't wait to play online.
Just thought about that... Were they other games that been Pushed up early? Cuzz I can't seem to remember any xD
Mirror's Edge + Call of Duty + All Points Bulletin = Brink Please not that I was talking about what this game looks like.
Looks pretty good. When I first saw this I thought it was just going to be another borderlands now I can see its an entirely different game
Haven't played anything on the psn yet (checked out a copy of killzone 2; gonna try it online this wk) but I've heard a lot of good and bad things about the free online. So I'd appreciate any constructive input from you those of you who have both systems AND play online on both.Which system would you recommend getting Brink for? THX.
On a related note, I'm having a really hard time deciding which system to buy Brink for. Have had my 360 for a couple yrs and just got my 1st ps3 a couple weeks ago. Normally, I love playing shooters, esp. fps, on the 360 but I'm lured by the free online gaming of the ps3, especially since Brink's going to be heavily online-focused. Also, I don't have a full year of Live Gold, as I can't afford it right now, just a free 3 month pass..
Awesome! I was def having a hard time waiting for this one (been on my wish list since last summer) and though it's only a week, man, feels like it was pushed up 3 or 4. Plus it allows for slightly better spacing playing-wise between L.A. Noire, and the other games I'm really excited for, Dirt 3 AND F.E.A.R. 3. May is sooo gonna empty my pockets.
Woop, day after my birthday...gonna have to get the Mrs to get out and get me it. This game next to BF3 deffo looks like its going to be one of my favs. Cant beat a decent night playing online with your mates with a couple of beers. See you online!
this game looks awesome....anyone getting it add me on xbl cause its gonna be a blast! pushed up a week, cant remember the last time that happened!
Why are the best games always released around exam season? This year it's Brink, last year it was Bad Company 2 (not strictly exam season, but close enough that I was still playing it by then) :P
@Akijo You're probably right. It's just that this current generation of videgames has made me very jaded and bitter.
I've been looking for a game to get me out of call of duty Crysis 2 got me to the edge but the MW2 Siren keeps singing me back I hope Brink can break this MW2 curse ;)
Amazing. When was the last time we saw anything but a delay left alone a forwarding of a game. Would really like to see that more often.... They SHOULD do that more often.
Probably a stupid question, but is there a single-player campaign? This sounds comparable to Team Fortress 2 so I'm guessing no..
I could go for another Wolfenstein multiplayer sequel, would make a killer downloadable game for $15-20.
@crackedmonkey21 Wow you can get to such conclusion before the game is even out :o You're great congratulation. I'm gonna get to an other conclusion > Spore was suposed to be greatest game ever, it wasnt. Fable 3 was suposed to be the biggest game ever, it wasnt. Call of Duty Black Cops was suposed to be fun, it wasnt. Never base yourself on trailer, play the game then you can say something like that
just got 6 bucks left to pay off my preorder can't wait the sooner the better i am on the brink of insanity.
I really hate that digitally distributed game over Steam has different country/continent release date! Thought everyone is equal, but... there are always those "favorable" ones.
Good for Bethesda and Splash Damage. They need to give this new IP every chance they can to get sales early and develop a community. Releasing day-and-date straight up against Rockstar's heavily hyped LA Noire was going to be a disaster. Remember what happened to Alan Wake and Prince of Persia last year against Red Dead Redemption? Evidently Bethesda does. ..... Brink has impressed game journalists with its blending of single-player and multiplayer game modes, its parkour FPS mechanics, and its class-based level progression customization. Here's hoping this game really is the breath of fresh air that some cautiously think it might be.
