Borderlands 2 DLC out October 16

New Mechromancer character class for Gearbox's new shooter arriving a month after launch for $10; free for those who preorder.

The Mechromancer DLC launches about a month after Borderlands 2 does.

Borderlands 2 does not hit store shelves until next week, but developer Gearbox Software has already confirmed a launch date for the game's Mechromancer downloadable content. The developer said the character class will arrive on October 16 for $10, or as a free download for those who preorder the game.

In addition to the Mechromancer DLC, Gearbox will offer four campaign expansion packs for Borderlands 2. At launch, Gearbox will offer a DLC season pass for the game, which bundles four $10 expansions for $30.

Borderlands 2--due out September 18--is the sequel to 2009's well-received loot-based co-op shooter. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's latest preview.

i love the way you people go mental at the mere mention of a dlc despite the fact that gearbox is one of the few developers to actual put out quality dlc's. these aren't capcom-style dlc's, quit shitting yourselves.

 @Poodlejumper

Uh why wouldn't you? First off  its not on disc DLC, second the new class came free if you preordered so......why not?

Also if anyone remembers it was the DLC that made BL1 so addicting, and I believe it was Knoxx.

Now I'm glad I didn't buy this game.

Just to keep up to date I'd have to fork out at least another $30.

You know $90 goes a long way nowadays.

Greedy greedy greedy....

@erik1116 You would prbobly spend the same amount on FPS multiplayer maps wouldn't you instead of actual hard worked DLC that wasn't on the disk and can give you HOURS of more gameplay.

@Darkmoone1 Absolutely not. FPS multiplayer maps are jokes. Also @God_Emperor. I Had the first Borderlands. It was fun, I'm just into spending around $90....

@erik1116 that's sad. When this game will last you longer than 5 60$ games. You are looking at it totally wrong! Hmm 200 hours of the best coop actions out there for 90 dollars or 6o$ for some 12 hour game.

Cool, can I use her for co-op? or is she only for offline like the Dead Island dlc?

@blastmaster2k2 Guess you don't have any friends. Your right I suppose gear box should put on the back of the box that "friends are required" to actually truly enjoy what this game has to offer.

The issue many are asking and/or complaining about is addressed in the second paragraph:

"In addition to the Mechromancer DLC, Gearbox will offer four campaign expansion packs for Borderlands 2. At launch, Gearbox will offer a DLC season pass for the game, which bundles four $10 expansions for $30."

Note the "In addition to the Mechromancer" part.

The Mechromancer is an additional player character free for those who pre-order.  The season pass is four "campaign expansion packs" (new playable areas like General Knoxx or Dr. Ned) for the price of three. Two separate offers for separate content.

The short answer is that no, the Mechromancer is not one of the four DLCs included in the season pass, all of which will be new playable campaigns.  Pre-ordering gets you an extra character for free.  The season pass gets you one playable campaign expansion for free.

Personally, I'm torn on the season pass.  I liked or loved three of the four main expansions to the orignal, but hated the fourth (Moxxi's Underdome).   Four for the price of three is a good deal, especially given that three of the Borderlands campaign expansion packs had a good 10 hours of quality play time.  The Underdome left me cold, however.

Still, even if one is a dud, you do break even.  That said, I'd really rather have a few well-written reviews to look at before buying an expansion.

So, I am confused. Is the Mechromancer part of the DLC Season Pass? Or is she a separate, fifth DLC pack?

@dlhoff no Only the campaign DLC are part of the DLC Season Pass. She is just a side DLC. Free is you pre ordered the Game.

i sure hope the article is wrong and the mechromancer is not one of the dlc packs included in the season pass because that would effectively eliminate any discount incentive for the large amount of preorder customers which i would assume would be the primary demo for the season pass to begin with.

lol its funny to see so many people rant about something that they don't even understand. First off their game is set for a specific date and they had to finish the game by then. So even though they made this new character  before the release date doesn't mean that they can just shove it in the game and have it ready for the release date, they would have to delay the game and that would piss more people off then having the extra character a dlc. Secondly the point of having this dlc free is  for people who pre order is to reward fans who have faith in  game companies. I am tired of all the people complaining that the dlc should be free for everyone. Sorry but game developers dont have to cater for everyone needs.

I see it as a thankyou to all those who made the game a sucess in the first place... most of the pre-orders will be from people who loved the first game. If you think its milking then don't buy it... its called choice.

There's good DLC and there's bad DLC. I count this as good DLC, though the price tag is too high in my book ($5 for a character would have made more sense). The pre-order thing makes sense considering it's not a day 1 deal (it's still under construction and not on the disk).
