2K Games and Gearbox acknowledge postapocalyptic shooter sequel in development, planned for release in fiscal year beginning April 2012.
Yesterday, Eurogamer cited a source close to Borderlands 2 for news that the game was in fact in development, with an announcement "soon." That "soon" may as well have been "imminent," as 2K Games and Gearbox today confirmed Borderlands 2 is in the works for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
Set for release during Take-Two Interactive's next fiscal year (April 2012 through March 2013), Borderlands 2 will have new versions of just about everything: character classes, enemies, weapons, equipment, skills, and sections of Pandora to explore. 2K is also touting "an ambitiously crafted story," though the only thing more specific offered was that it will involve secrets being revealed and mysteries being escalated.
More specifics about Borderlands 2 should be revealed soon, with "soon" meaning at Gamescom in Cologne August 17-21, and Penny Arcade Expo, which runs August 26-28 in Seattle, Washington.

Nice, very nice news. I loved Borderlands, but when the cheaters (Modded guns/shields in particular) came about in the game, it completely destroyed the co-op experience for me. That wasn't the only thing though - there were issues with transitioning between areas, doing certain quests unless everyone was present, and a host of other problems. (Mainly getting all four players on the same page and actually working together. It would appear if they weren't on your friends list, they just felt you were a placeholder.) Sad to say I traded it in, but Borderlands 2 gives me hope they'll fix all this, or at least make it so there's no repeat of any of it.
F#$*ING AWESOME!! Been waiting for this, if any game deserves a sequal its this one. Cant tell ya how many hours I spent on Borderlands playing CO-OP with my buddy.
f*ck call of duty, borderlands is for real gamers. If you don't play borderlands, go cry to your mom! LOL
I really wonder what the plot will be in this one... The last plot was good, with good DLC. They keep it up and I'll have to buy this game...
Let's hope they deal with the DLC issue. It wasn't available for retail buyers in south-east asia :(
one of the best game of all time in my opinion, nothing quite like it! i cant wait...i just hope it does not turn out to be another type of dragon age 2 disapointment fiasco that is... peace!
YESSSSS but I really do hope they allow you to costumize your character or even make your own character then rather having to choose from only four playable chracters
That's good. Borderlands was one of those few FPSs I found genuinely endearing, so if they improve some of the niggles of the original, this could be amazing.
Reskin the game and redo the dialogue for the quests and add 1 or 2 new features and you got ur sequel. Realistically thats wat going to happen, I mean they just finished releasing content last Aug with Clap traps xpac.
If they cange only one thing, please, please, please for the Xbox and PS3 versions let players switch the meele and crouch buttons for the default controller layouts.
There is plenty of plot, unless you blindly go from one Nav point to another, which is what I know many gamers do.
@Tekcor Still the plot and action are extremely weak that you become uninterested with what will happen next
This is good news the first is great especially with co-op sadly most of my friends don't own it anyone who wants to play co-op add me on PSN my name is the same as my Gamespot profile.
@Hm1911 Pay attention to the cutscenes and ECHO recorders next time. There is lots of plot. Not going to give away spoilers though.
I heard someone say they thought Gear Box was forced to announce this news sooner to help mask the troubles they got themselves into because of Duke Nukem. However, I think people who blame Gear Box for Duke were stupid as Gear Box just came in at the last moment to clean things up and to go on the PR campaign!
all i have to say is epic game is epic DLC i hear was on point and borderlands 2 will very very very super epic 2k games is the next big thing in my book
I can just imagine the possibilities. Dual wielding. Even more guns. New abilities and maybe even some new characters/classes to play as.
YAY! I loved the first game, the DLC was epic! Here's hoping that they keep the game lengthy, and with similar graphics as the last one. I will be gutted if Claptrap is not in it though
why are they making so many good games -_- well looks like the new assassins creed is coming of my list to make room for this
I wasn't impressed enough with the finale of the first one to want to do a second. Also the missions need more variety.
Great i already want 4 games next year and 2011 isnt even over yet. Cant wait for actual gameplay or trailers.
