Halo 3 leads Xbox Live holiday deals

For gamers outside the US, a sale honoring the Thanksgiving weekend in November probably wouldn't have made much sense. The December holidays tend to be a bit more universal, though, so for its next wave of discounts to Xbox Live fare, Microsoft is opening up to gamers of all regions.

The Xbox 360 maker today announced its Holiday Deal of the Week program. The initiative will run through December and will see Xbox Live Gold members getting a discount on a different online marketplace item each week. The cut rate for new items will be announced on Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's blog on Mondays, will go into effect on Tuesday, and will expire after a week.

Kicking off the program, Microsoft will offer the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack for 400 points ($5), a $2.50 savings. The map pack adds three new battlegrounds to Bungie's acclaimed shooter: Ghost Town, Blackout, and Lockout. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I finally bought the legendary map pack, but not because I wanted the new maps. Bungie has cleverly took out team snipers from the team slayer playlist and added it to the Hardcore playlist. If you want to play snipers non stop, then you have to pony up for for all the DLC. I don't like it; I feel like a school yard bully has twisted my arm, and forced me to give up my lunch money. That said, I find team snipers and team swat awesome. Now that I have made the purchase, and Gears 2 multiplayer is a huge disappointment to me, I will be playing halo 3 for at least another 6 months.

the reason why people want it free is because they EXPECT it to be free. Usually when a map pack is released it is most likely free after a couple of months after. Most people, like me, wait until its free to download it. That's what a lot of people did for the Heroic Map pack.

Seems people constantly forget about Cold Storage and the Heroic Map pack. Bungie needs to make money like anyone else, and you guys who complain have no idea how much it costs to hire the workers to make the maps, let alone for all the other expenses involved. Nobody's forcing you to buy them to keep playing the game, and you can be just as happy without them. Welcome to the real world, where the service is worth the price the customer will pay for it, and not a cent less. Basically, that means these maps could be a lot more and still be a reasonable price.

Blackout basically is Lockout, except with windows in the one place. The Legendary Map Pack contains Ghost Town, Blackout, and Avalanche.

No, not free yet. Free around the time when the Mythic Map Pack is out.

Guess those people that want it for free don't have jobs. They do not understand that you need to make money to keep developing new products. What is the point of giving something away for free? Oh you will have freeloaders, probably on welfare, jumping at the content. Open a business, then you will understand why it isn't free.

If you don't want the maps don't buy them.
Like all companies they want money so they have every right to charge you for dlc.
Just cause you think they should be nice and waste all that hard work they did making the maps and give it to you free doesn't mean it will happen.

it was 10 bucks now 5 it should be for free seeing it has been out a while already like halo 2 did with a couple of maps.and y u guys saying its to support the designers?do u honestly think the money will go to them?all the company wants is profits u kinding urself if u think they want to give good map packs for a good price without them making themselfs lots of money. and going of topic the oil companies dont care about giving the consumer good deals on oil they want ur money the most(mobil makes hundreds of millions of dollars a DAY is that 4 investments?)

wow someone defending the oil companies... you must need your head examined. Or your taking "donations" like our government lol. Also, I've made plenty of maps before, it doesnt cost much to do so. At the rate they sell em, we should get a map every day for a month for the price they sell them.

with looking at all the comments saying that this should be free...it should but also considering with the other content being free as is...$5 is worth a bargain this time around...they need money so they can reinvest it again into new content...they don't make content for free you know...know the business aspect first before you saying anything "smart." It's just like teh oil business...they may make billions but they also have to reinvest billions back into the company for the future of drilling and finding alternative ways or else they will run dry real quick...wow, I have never said this much before.

Honestly halo 1 was cool because it was new and no one really did the "u regenerate if u dont get shot for a sec" gimmick. Halo 2 was Meh... and 3 was like omg how can you ruin such a good thing, and get like 300 million trillion people to buy it. The story sucked, but the gameplay was decent enough to pass it off. Online is pretty sad though... Oh and i'm trying to win a thumbs down contest between a friend and i so fire away.

The sad thing I did was buy the maps while I was on my friends xbox so the gamertag that I don't use anymore has the maps and the others don't, while my friend has them for free. Shouldn't the map be free already? They didn't take this long with the Heroic map pack....they just wanna milk it for as long as they can. ONE ONE BUY IT. If no one gets it then they will make it free faster. But then again I don't play Halo 3 anymore. COD5 baby. That takes more strategy than Halo and is a lot more fun with all of their features.
