British football demigod David Beckham is apparently playing soccer in the US now. News, right? Indicative of the sport's massive popularity everywhere other than the US, California-based megapublisher Electronic Arts revealed today that it has tapped a global roster of artists for the soundtrack to this year's FIFA Soccer 08.

The soundtrack is set to feature tunes from 50 artists hailing from 27 different countries. According to EA, highlights from the lineup include CSS (Brazil), Datarock (Norway), Dover (Spain), Ivy Queen (Puerto Rico), Junkie XL (Holland), Maximo Park (UK), Mexican Institute of Sound (Mexico), Peter Bjorn & John (Sweden), Planet Funk (Italy), Simian Mobile Disco (UK), Superbus (France), The Cat Empire (Australia), and Wir Sind Helden (Germany). A full song list and sample tracks are available through EA's FIFA 08 Web site.

FIFA 08 will arrive on North American shores for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, PC, and mobile on October 9. The PlayStation 3 version follows a week later on October 16. The game will be available on all platforms in Europe on September 28.

this is actualy nothing new. check last 2-3 soundtracks and you will realize that while it didnt have the variety from this year, FIFA has always had a very international soundtrack. but for what its worth, good job again.
and PES fans, take your silly fanboy crap elsewhere. this way just an article about music in FIFA 08, not a p1ssing contest over which is a better game!

I'm curious... have any of you actually ever played a FIFA game? Last year's installment was terrible! It's inferior in every possible way imaginable to Pro Evolution Soccer, and I don't think a cultured soundtrack is really going to do anything to change that. I personally haven't enjoyed an EA soundtrack ever... so they can't even get that right in my view.

That was kind of an obvious list. Only really one decent track (CSS - Off The Hook). But whatever, I shall be playing PES with the music turned off and iTunes running in the background so i really don't care.

It seems that the big EA soundtracks are the best part of their sports games nowadays. How about improving gameplay? Pro Evo 2008 is going to smack FIFA down. No amount of music is gonna change that.

Great idea, on top of all of this great music coming in Fifa 08, we should be able to play our own music. I hope the graphics are good.

yes i agree, the world wide soundtrack is fantastic, as it's much less repetitive than the typical EA garbage RAP or pseudo-alternative music fare. I thought the soundtrack to UEFA champions League was fantastic, glad FIFA 08 is taking a similar tact. Nothing worse than a soundtrack where every song sounds the same. Fight Night and NFS underground soundtracks made me want to put a spike in my brain.
