What we heard: That CD Projekt Red would like to do a console edition of The Witcher isn't what's at question. As recently as last month, the publisher-developer of Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski's dark fantasy game adaptation has teased that a console edition of the best-selling PC game was in the works. "There are a lot more places to explore in the world of The Witcher and there's obviously a huge audience out there that would still love to see the game on console...we're PC developers first and foremost, but you never know!"

Never, however, may be just around the corner. Over the prolonged holiday weekend, a GameTrailers user posted what appears to be an official developer diary for The Witcher: Rise of the Wolf, a console adaptation for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

As cinematic footage of the game rolls, an unnamed developer explains the primary differences between The Witcher on consoles and the PC edition. "The console version will look much better. [It] has a new engine with dynamic lighting, dynamic shadow, normal mapping, there's also new vegetation. In the console adaptation, enemy behavior will change a lot, there are new behaviors, new actions that can be performed by the enemies, the enemies will move much more dynamically."

The developer goes on to say that Rise of the Wolf will benefit from a "more dynamic and more engaging" combat system. "There are hundreds of new mocap animations in the console version," continued the developer. "We also wanted movement of the character, the main hero, and the enemies to be more realistic and fluid, so we are mo-capping a lot of new movements and animations." The developer also notes that Rise of the Wolf will fully support achievements, trophies, and Sixaxis motion-controls.

The official story: "We haven't made any official announcements about any of the three games in development at RED," a CD Projekt Red rep told GameSpot.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus. This video has all the dressings of a publisher-produced promotional spot, so expect to hear more about The Witcher: Rise of the Wolf when CD Projekt Red is good and ready to announce it.

    1. "lack of good hardware overall"? wtf!? what in gods name are you on about? The PlayStation 3's Hardware is in no way Inferior at all

    2. and why the hell not make it for both doesn't the 360 have enough exclusives for you? that comment was simply fanboyism in it's purest form

I want to say 2 things.

    1. Why on PS3 and XB360? When you make a game multiplatform you have to based the game on the lowest common demonstrators of consoles, like PS3 lacks of RAM (and lack of good hardware overall) and 360's lack of a standard harddrive. Do not make it for both! Pcik one (XB360 please) and stick to that.

    2. Can this come to the PC, too? On PC we need more gamepad games! I like games with hit combos and stuff too! If those start coming to the PC I won't need a console anymore!

If it doesn't take away from PC gamers' ability to enjoy the game the way they want to, why complain about it heading to consoles?

People shouldn't blame their lack of getting a huge bang for your buck on PC gaming simply because they don't know how to.Really annoys me when people do that.Don't blame the game if you can't hang with it son.

"How do you figure? Complex inventories and branching skill paths don't mix with console players and gamepads."

Just because it didn't on previous gen consoles, doesn't mean that's still the case. Besides, the inventory wasn't that complex! I kow Yahtzee said it was, but that was a rare case of him talking out of his a**e, if you ask me.

I really dont see this being a quality game on the consoles, I suspect it will be dumbed down in a major way, have its script neutered of all the mature content and be very different from the excellent PC version. Alarms bells ring when they mention a game would be made for the consoles using the PC games "story"

The Witcher in god of war style anyone?

Playing games on consoles is significantly easier. As a previous PC gamer, I can attest to the fact that I got tired of the hardware race. I built a PC specifically to play Half-Life 2 several years back, and it cost me about $1500 on a budget. Then again, so did three XBOX 360's by the time the first two red ringed. Anyways, consoles are standard-you buy the console, you buy the game. I spent a lot of money back in the day trying to keep up with sys req's.

Witcher is a fantastic game, I'm more then exited to hear of the console project.
The game easily falls into my must have RPG's especially since it warrants my money with lots and lots of gameplay hours.

I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

xbox 360, good graphics, combine that with the story line of a game like "The Witcher" and you get a heck of a game.

i really enjoyed it on pc.

cool. don't really play games on my pc so consoles are a good way to make a game get my attention cause i want to take a game home and play it not worry about having enough ram or good enough graphics card to play it. i know some people out there enjoy bothering about spec but that is not for me i'd rather buy a game and know i can play it when i go home.

monco59, did you just basically call console gamers dense? There are plenty of games on consoles that have complex gameplay and branching skill paths. Still, I'd prefer it on the PC. Unless Rise of the Wolf adds a significant amount of quests and story, I won't bother with it.

Hope the PC people will get any new content that ships to consoles. I hate when people who buy the port of a game get more for their money than the fans who blindly bought it on release day the first time around, without seeing a single review. That being said, my PC isn't good enough to handle very many games, even playing Half Life 2 and CS pushes my graphics card and RAM. Can't wait to play this on 360!

Another great way for publishers to make money, its pretty ridiculous trying to keep a pc up to date with the pricey requirements that are hardware updates. This is a good move.
