Source: Over the weekend, writers for Destructoid, Gaming Today, Xbox 360 Fanboy, and a handful of others spotted newly added press assets for Conker: Live and Reloaded and Jade Empire on Microsoft's press Web site. Then they reported the update as a sign that these games will be headed for Microsoft's downloadable game program Xbox Originals.

What we heard: While none of the aforementioned sites reported the appearance of press assets as absolute confirmation that Jade Empire and Conker were coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace, they didn't hesitate to connect the dots. After all, updated assets on a press site for games that are several years old could indeed be a precursor to a rerelease of some sort. And given Microsoft's recently launched Xbox Originals program, a rerelease of games the company previously published is well within the realm of possibility.

However, if the presence of assets for these games on the press site means they're coming to Xbox Originals, one would expect the site to host assets for November's debut wave of Xbox Originals. But of the initial lineup, only assets for Fable are hosted, and they were also added over the weekend, around the same time the Jade Empire and Conker assets went up. Looking through the list, the weekend also saw updates to Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero, Xbox 360 launch titles that likely aren't part of any rerelease plans.

Microsoft reps did indeed add assets for Jade Empire and Conker to its press site over the weekend, but they didn't do it to promote Xbox Originals releases for those games. They did it because a member of the press asked them to.

As associate content editor for the upcoming video game section of trivia site Kwanzoo, Tom Mc Shea preps quiz questions for games of all ages. That means he has a use for press assets related to older games like Jade Empire and Conker, and Microsoft would have a reason to dust those off and throw them back online.

"Conker and Jade Empire's assets were uploaded on Microsoft's server as a favor to us," Mc Shea told GameSpot. "We just needed screenshots and they were happy to accommodate us."

The official story: As of press time, Microsoft had not returned a request for comment.

Bogus or not bogus?: There's a good chance they'll show up eventually, but for now this is bogus.

The Xbox originals download service would only interest me if I couldn't find a Xbox title at EB games that I just had to have. Ikuraga was one game I could never find when I had the Nintendo Gamecube. I tried really hard to find that game. Currently there is No Original Xbox title that I haven't been able to find. EB and other used game stores have lots of Xbox games. I'd rather build my Xbox 360 collection then download/buy Xbox 1 games at the moment.

I bought the Halo Xbox Original. Unlike the Xbox Arcade games I can only play Halo while on Xbox Live. Microsoft says it my problem. For this reason I refuse to buy any Xbox Originals especially for $15. Jade Empire and Conker are both awesome games and I'm glad to see Microsoft is using the Xbox Originals to spred gaming goodness. Anyone who hasn't played these games I recommend it.

thekey said : I'm with nate1222 .(ecept the trade in for a Wii part I would much rather trade it in for PS3) Anyways I'm pissed off @ MS and XBL. I down loaded (and paid for a bunch of XBLA games only to find that after my "gold suscription" ran out so did my XBL arcade games!) If it weren't for games like Gears of War, Masseffect, Halo 3, I would have ditched 360 a long time ago. I can't wait for my 2nd 360 to die so I can have it fixed/replaced on MS tab.

This is the most ridiculous thing i ever heard.........lolololololol

Generic_Dude-- "Good games, but both still readily available at retailers... in hard copies that still work if Xbox Live is down and the console that you purchased it on self-destructed. Reactionary DRM policies FTL.
    _____________

That's weird, I got the RROD before and bought every DLC for Oblivion and when M$ sent me a new box all of my DLC worked just fine.

@Boogiemanzero: It's not just arcade games. I can't play Oblivion because I bought every piece of DLC except the horse armor and then got an RROD."

conker rocks but the xbox version was a dissapointment, looked pretty but they cut out the language when it was supposed to be an 18, even the minor stuff was missing, the N64 version remains supreme.

They should add achievements to the older games and I would definitely download them but for now I'd rather Buy Fable and Save the Hard Drive Space, but not like it's easy to fill 120 gig but I'm thinking of the future.

If it's the Special Edition release of Jade Empire, then I'll definitely get it.

However, since they only released the regular Fable, they'll probably take the same route here.

I've never played Conker and I want to really bad because I'm a huge fan of Rare. But the problem is that I can't find a copy of the Xbox game anywhere. So if this game gets posted soon I'll buy it ASAP.

The only extra censoring on the Xbox was the Mighty Poo's song. Everything else was the same. People act like the N64 version was uncensored or something. The N64 version was censored. The mighty Poo's song wasn't however.

    Posted Feb 4, 2008 7:58 pm PT

The n64 version was a fantastic game, the Xbox version was castrated, though the worst offense to me (other than the censorship) was the removal/replacement of it's addictive multiplayer content. It's a good reminder, though, of a game that more than deserves a sequel.
