Assassin's Creed headed to the Xbox 360...again?

What we heard: Hey did you hear? Assassin's Creed may be coming to the Xbox 360! Ubisoft's medieval stealth game has been the subject of one of the hottest rumors of the year, a rumor that refuses to die or be debunked.

Assassin's Creed was officially announced at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo for the PlayStation 3. Though a press release never mentioned the word "exclusively," it sure did its best not to mention the Xbox 360. However, the game, previously known as Project Assassin, was first revealed as an Xbox 360 game at X05--Microsoft's Xbox-centric event.

Further doubt that the game was a PS3 exclusive was cast when some Web sites claimed the E3 demo was running on an Xbox 360 dev kit, and earlier this month, Internet reports stated that an Ubi employee spilled the beans at the Interactive Digital Entertainment Festival in France.

The latest good news for those in the Microsoft camp comes via the Web site for Computer and Video Games, which has posted a preview for the game on the Xbox 360--which no doubt peeved the French game publisher. Though Ubisoft has never announced that an Xbox 360 version is in the works, CVG appears to be accepting it as fact. To give the preview even more credence, the article is branded with the Official Xbox Magazine logo.

When asked for comment on the rumored Xbox 360 version, Ubisoft said something awfully familiar. "Assassin's Creed is coming to the PS3. No other announcements have been made."

So what gives? Ubisoft and Sony may have a deal for a timed exclusive, much like they had with the Grand Theft Auto series on the PlayStation 2. Another more nefarious possibility is that a deal may have been worked out so the game stirs enough interest in the PS3 if gamers believe it will only be available for that platform. And of course, there's the possibility that no one wants to believe (except hardcore Sony fanboys)--it is a PS3 exclusive game.

Bogus or not bogus?: We've said it before and we'll say it again...we'd be utterly flabbergasted if it didn't make it to the Xbox 360...not bogus!

    the fact that it's announced for Ps3 with screens to boot (and it's not even out yet), and nothing about XB360, that tells me that it's doubt-full weather XB360 will see this game.

    you can't have every thing XB fanboys.

    I'm not getting this game for PS3. It needs to be for 360 becuase I know Ubi, they wouldnt let a game go by like this. They wouldnt make an anticipated game and only make it for 1 platform that hardly anybody can afford.

    They'll probably gunna have Assassin's Creed on PC before the Xbox 360. No way an exclusive title's gunna multiplatform onto the Xbox 360!

    It probably won't be coming for the xbox 360, it's just one of the many rumors. Ubisoft is just trying to stunt, making all Microsoft fans having their hopes up, but then suddenly being let down when they announce they'll be giving Assassin's Creed to Sony anyway, which turns the Microsoft fans to buy a PS 3 and Sony wins the whole Next-gen war. But don't forget about the Wii, it might be suddenly own the rest...

    After Ubisoft has put so much time and money into this game, it'd be a mistake to not reach an even wider audience on another capable machine with the Xbox 360. In this day and age, time is money, and a game this size takes serious time. So why not make the best of it with a release on two consoles? Ubisoft's a big player in the industry, I'm sure they're well aware of this.

    Normally all I'd have to hear to decide a system is "Final Fantasy", but after the Square-Enix merge, my faith in the future of the FF series went down to nearly nothing...

    Everyone needs to shut up and just wait for ubisoft to tell u whats up, seriously. this crap is getting annoying, i want it to go to the ps3 exclusively just to get everyone to shut up, and why the heck would u wanna play this game on a PC anyway if it came out for it, and the 360 is being overestimated with its capabilities, just my opinion, a bit off topic but oh well

    Which really sucks for all us pc and nintendo fans. as well as 360 fans.

    Sony must have learned something from the pr response they got for saying they dont' need gta as an exclussive.

    I was reading the 1000-page article on this game in Game Informer a little while ago, all the while thinking "this will be a great XBOX 360 game". I was surprised to read that it was due to come out on the PS3. While I am devoted to the PS, I don't see why both can't reap the benefits of such an excellent game... an excellent game that will probably take me a year to play because I'm intimidated by how articulately it will be executed.

    If there were any reason to believe this is a PS3 exclusive I would. But all signs point to X! I want Sony in the top spot in this next generation, but I'm sick of all their manipulations of their supporters. Ubisoft seems to be under contract not do declare that there's no exclusive. If they could I'm sure they'd love to. ACreed is not exclusive. Only timed. I'd bet my pinky toe nails on it.
    Then again, who cares.

    For one, the game is coming to the 360. Next, what are sony fanboys talking about. Im tired of them saying how all games are going to be better on the PS3 because they will look better. Every game that Ive seen and played on both the PS2 and X-box, the X-box version always looked better. But I sure you would have still said the PS2 was better. Make up your minds, do you like better graphics or not.

    Oh and 360 owners.. GOW,Halo3, RE5, Mase Effect, Bioshock, Lost planet, too human, assasin creed. And most of these are exclusive.

    If the PS3 loses this too, I'll crack up. They need some reason for us to buy their system and it's going to take a whole year worth of games for me to even CONSIDER 600 bucks.

    If stuff goes non exclusive after 6 monthes they will have HUGE problems. Not like they don't have any now

    Not a day goes by that another reason to buy the 360 over the PS3 doesnt happen. Chalk another one up fpr microsoft making it at like I think 83. ANd leave PS3 with its 1. That 1 is MGS4.

    Ok seriously people, stop saying Gamespot is anti-Sony because they keep saying that this one game isn't going to be PS3 exclusive, I am pretty sure that they have their reasons for saying so. As for why it keeps appearing in Rumor Control, well it seems that everytime they post it in here it gets a lot of results so I guess that they figure that people really want to know all about it.

    In saying that am I the only one that thinks that it would be very funny if they scrapped this for the PS3 and 360 (yeah I think it's going to the 360 as well) and made it exclusivley for the Wii , PC or one of the handhelds ?

    Uh if a game that is truly a powerhouse game for the 360 and PS3 is ported to the Wii, it's going to be a pretty inferior version. The Wii is going to have it's peak in terms of shared titles at launch, and go downhill as the 360 and PS3 dig deeper into their power, and the Wii doesn't have it. I assume that Nintendo is banking on their in house develpment, mario titles, etc. The Wii is not "next gen" in any way like the PS3, or even the 360. That doesn't make it bad, but I think time will show the Wii filling a very different niche.

    I do not understand logic like this. Why would you prefer to pay $200 more for a system to play the same game on it? If a single game is going to be your factor, then why not want it on 360 so you can save yourself $$$?
