Second batch of $15 post-release content for Treyarch's latest Call of Duty game arrives next week for PS3; double XP offered June 10-12.
While much of the current Call of Duty talk is focused on the upcoming Modern Warfare 3, that doesn't mean Activision is done with Call of Duty: Black Ops, its billion dollar baby. Today, the company announced that the game's Escalation downloadable content will be released in the recently reopened PlayStation Store next week.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Activision said the $15 Escalation DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops will arrive on the PlayStation Network next Friday, June 10. The content--which debuted in May for the Xbox 360, and yesterday for the PC--is composed of new multiplayer maps and a new zombie mode addition.
The Escalation pack sports four multiplayer maps: Hotel, set on top of a luxury hotel and casino in old Havana; Convoy, which offers up close-quarters combat when a US military convoy is ambushed; Zoo, set in a derelict Soviet-era animal park; and Stockpile, which is set in a small Russian town that contains secret facilities housing weapons of mass destruction.
The downloadable add-on also features a "Call of the Dead" level. The zombie-slaughtering co-op level will feature a storyline inspired by famed horror director George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead) and features a '70s movie aesthetic that sees four action stars fending off hordes of undead around a ghost ship. It will feature the voices and likenesses of actors Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead), Danny Trejo (Machete), and Romero himself.
To celebrate the arrival of the Escalation content, Activision is granting PlayStation 3 Call of Duty gamers double XP through June 12. For more on the title in question, check out GameSpot's review of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Starting Block video feature, embedded below.
hell yes! GEORGE ROMERO!!!! i dont get the point of him tho. I mean itd be cool to have him a the player but i dont get what he does besides make it harder. can you kill him? i have to get this. i should have waited and got this instead of first strike.
When is COD going to roll over and die already??? I mean, it used to be great, and now it's just something to keep the company alive... :(
I want to know if these maps are actually well designed and tactical instead of hearing comments about the price.
@FamousCalibur Some DLC are essentially Expansion packs that are worth the price. But to charge a couple bucks for small things, or charge almost an entire new game like the CoD map backs, its weakening the industry. On top of that, instead of giving gamers a solid game at release (Look at Mafia 2). They give a decent single player, but remove all customization and replay value until there DLC. For a mere $2 or $3, your character can dress or drive unique cars. If they incorporated all that within the base game at no charge, critic would have rated the game better. In my opinion, i think DLC has gotten to a point where every game these days must have some form it it to nickel and dime what they can. Out of respect for the gamers who buy your products, take a lesson from Valve releasing everything free. That's customer appreciation in my mind. You really think $1 Billion is not a enough money for them to finance new games, marketing, salary, R&D etc? Give me a break.
Yeah, I don't think I'll be buying this one. Seriously, Activision or Treyarch should make each map a seperate download so you dont get what you dont want. For example, I prefer multiplayer more than zombies, but if bought this I would get zombie maps that I would never use. And one more thing, I don't see why we get it 2 months later, but still have to pay the same price. Aleast make the release date same as PC.
@YoungCardinal well what else do you want in a dlc, a whole new game. you gotta realise ppl do this for money for the next game. however, i've never bought a cod dlc, (they are rip offs), but i do love the Uncharted 3 and willing to buy their reasonable dlc
Don't get it all my friends said the maps feel rushed and looked horid and the zombie map barely kept them entertained i did not buy it but thats just because i hate the gameplay style of CoD.
A lot of you are saying that COD should die but I don't think they should. I think that the developers should get off their lazy arses and try to do something new with the series. It's not like they're taking a risk since every COD game released in recent years has made them more money than there is in the entire f***ing world.
I will not buy any Call of Duty add-ons until they lower the ridiculous prices. I wish more people would do the same, but the Call of Duty sheep would probably pay $50 for a few maps if they had to.
ima buying it, thou i think 15 dlls is a ripp off, it still a good ripp off, but Gaming people should look in ways to expand the game WAY beyond with dlc´s, like de Fallout, GTA, Elders Scroll, AC, Alan Wake...more than just maps!, maps, a bit of history, new weapons, characters, some dept...but i still accept maps and weapons haha :D
to all the haters, the reason so called 'suckers' pay the money for cod dlc is because its top drawer dlc. each zombie map is a game in itself. its certainly better than mw2's 3 new maps and 2 old ones, thats a rip off but i certainly dont feel ripped off by any of the black ops dlc.
I'll pass i prefer to keep my $15 dollars its only a matter of time before I will get tired of the download anyway.
It boggles the mind that CoD fans would pay up to an additional $30 to 8 new maps and a new Zombie Mode (in total). Very few DLC now a days are even worth buying. Most of it is a joke: Map Packs, few new weapons, new skins...REALLY???
Of course, hardcore CoD fans will get this. But I don't blame average or occassional players for thinking that this is overpriced. I'm a hardcore fan, but I still think that this is expensive. They should either go back to selling 4 maps for $10 or have MP maps and Zombies maps in separate DLC packs. I say that because there are some people who just care about MP and some who just care about Zombies. They shouldn't have to pay for both.
@ Superzone: WOW MAN!!!! What does it matter to you if the game dies or lives??? Does it make a difference to you??? You dont have to play it man. WOW!!!! Stop wasting your time making stupid posts!!!
It should be 9.99 at most!!! I got Vietnam for the same price $14.99. and got more maps! new guns & vehicles! it was like a new game. I get it because my best gamer sidekick is COD fan. and we made a deal I'll play COD & NFS. if he plays BBC2 , MOH & homefront this is johnnydragon on My nefu's acct.
This will be the first Map Pack that i will not be buying, just had enough now. If we gladly pay this MW3 Map packs will cost more. I really think i'll now miss out MW3 this Xmas and go for BF3.
@Yuusha09 I Punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face! Sorry I couldn't resist a Cave Johnson quote.
Normally this is were I'd complain about Activision sapping money from gamers but right now those Hot Twins from Dead Rising 2 are seriously pissing me off, GOD THEY ARE SO CHEAP AT FIGHTING!!!!!!!!! You gotta admit though the club music is awesome. I'm sorry, what was the topic again?
People, if you don't like Black Ops then just shut up. You want to whine and say "let the series die". If you dont like it, dont play it. As for all the DLC..... THIS IS THE SECOND MAP PACK! And yes, it is a bit steep but it's better than Capcom's Street Fighter 4/MVC prices. Seriously, $5 for one freakin character for MVC? Now THAT is a ripoff. If any of you have actually bought any DLC for either SF4 or MVC, you have no place to talk. Besides, SF4 sucked, and I laugh at those who actually like that pathetic excuse for a game.
I'm just getting for zombies pretty much just like all the other ppl, that's mainly why i bought first strike too. I wont even buy MW3 I'll be getting Battlefield 3 probly and the only other CODs i will buy will be ones by Treyarch only b/c zombies too if COD even gets that far.
I don't mind paying for DLC as long as it's for a game I actually like. Black Ops doesn't fall under that category.
So people pay 60$ for CoD, 15$ for the first map pack, then 15$ for the second. So, all in all your paying 90$ for a game you'll replace in November when the new one comes out. Or... just laugh in Activision's face by not giving them a dime for this god-awful franchise. Please just let it die.
Seriously, how much DLC does this game have? At $15 a pop all of the DLC for this game probably totals to the same amount that the game itself cost! Come on people, Activision is suckering you out of money. Stop buying this. God I can't wait for CoD to die already.
Hey Activision, why don't you do what Valve does and include a level editor instead of being greedy.
