Speaking to OXM, Mass Effect 3 executive producer Michael Gamble teased the future of the Mass Effect series, saying BioWare has "so much to draw from" if it decides to make a new game based in that universe.
"Without going down any specific path, you can think of many, many different areas throughout the [intellectual property], throughout the history, where there are large wars to be won, large battles to be had, and a lot of development to be done around where these races came from, how they came about," he said.
Gamble said no decisions have been made but reiterated that "the future is wide open" for what the studio could work on from the franchise moving forward.
As for Mass Effect 3, that game is due out on March 6 and has players once again taking on the role of Shepard, who is now on the run from the shadowy pro-human organization Cerberus. To save Earth, Shepard must travel the galaxy trying to rally support from alien civilizations with varying degrees of sympathy.
@mikeerik But they can still communicate with those worlds far away because they have the QEC(Quantum Entanglement Communicator" that allows them to talk with anyone no matter how far. Also the mass relays were not destroyed but heavily damaged.
why are you guys runting about "how" the next game will be. i will not be paying for any Mass Effect that doesn't resembles the state it is in right now. Action- Adventure driven RPG with alot of story, great characters, a good enough customization to not overwhelm the player but also consistent, wonderfull music and vibrant locations. until now it has been just peachy. the adding of a multiplayer part is just bonus to me. strip any of what i like about this game away and i'm suddenly out of cash.
Rachni wars ...Krogan Rebelions ...hell yah Human and Turians conflict, skyllian blitz, or they could invent a new war or a new threat like the Geth going baboons again or a Virus ......Geth and Quarins conflict
i'd like a more RPGs from the universe of Mass Effect, i'd like to see another threat to everyone (not a necessarily a omnicidal one, but still), complete with multiple starting stories to choose from (Salarian story, Krogan story, Quarian story, etc)
I would love a game that elaborates more on the space-elements of the series. I'm not strictly talking about a space-simulator, since those seem to never survive the market these days unfortunately. Although adding a space-element to a RTS game like what you have in the Homeworld or Sins of a Solar Empire games would be spectacular. Space is something that game developers really need to exploit more in their games.
I agree with pooya1881 but they don't have to have some "Big Bad" every time they want to tell a story. They already have some of the more edgy stories in video games and they feel more modern than most. I think if they wanted to make another game after they should focus on something intimate, edgy, modern and character driven. Plus, the gameplay is the most important anyway. Sure, having a good story lets you care about the NPC's and such but the sad fact of the matter is if you want to hear some amazing story you are much better off reading a book or even watching a good movie.
@ Son_Jazrin and Pooya1881 I dont know...i guess we can compare it to Star Wars...the first trilogy had the Empire blowing up whole planets and going for Universe domination....20 years later they tell the story of Darth Vader becoming who he was...but there are some good games such as KOTOR that goes back in history and tells some good stories...i think they have potential to tell stories that happened in different time frames in the Universe...just IMO of course as I can see your point a bit
ME universe has a lot of potential, but from the point of storytelling they went big for ME trilogy and they have nothing else to write, its like dragon age.the first one had a perfect storyline and when they made the second one they were empty handed.all the threats were minor so they had to go with templars and mages cuz they couldn't have another blight story. this is also true about mass effect.when the ME trilogy has a story line in which the whole universe is at stake,it would b pretty stupid if they were more games in this universe cuz everything and everyone other than reapers would b lame antagonist that would eventually end up in ruining the series that everybody loves
This universe is too massive to not make more games, and even novels and movies, out of it. As other have pointed out, an RTS would be great. Reading in depth about how ME mass effect technology, spacecraft, and space combat work was cool -- even cooler would be actually getting to put that knowledge into use.It would be awesome to have more single player RPGs, especially if they let you play as one of the various races.
Bioware already has a space MMO, there's no reason to make one out of ME. Competing against yourself is most definitely NOT a "logical way to go." Personally, I wouldn't mind it at all if they kept the same format and just made it a little less epic. Say, Firefly scale.
Admit it guys, this game is BEGGING to be MMO'd, think about it... - Diverse races - rich backstory - expansive universe - Multiple professions - TONS of Factions It's the only logical way to go, if this happens... Asari Commando FTW!
Wow, I actually recognize almost all the voice actors from outside gaming. It brings a new dimension to my feelings about the game, indeed the series; it feels richer, if that's even possible. I haven't felt this way about the acting in a game since Wing Commander 3 & 4. I have confidence that the next entry in the franchise will be even better. More than Baulder's Gate, more than KOTOR, more than any other game from BioWare, ME is BW's baby. They poured their heart and soul into this one extraordinary IP that's completely theirs (well, EA is like a step father too, I guess). If ME miscarry, then I have no doubt BW will die with it. I think the next entry should be MMO, after BW gets the experience from SWTOR. I am open to other genres, maybe strategy, but I have never seen a truly great space strategy game, RTS or TBS. They are almost all land-based games with a space background (Homeworld makes a great effort). I don't think the control schemes today for any console (except maybe Kinect 2) can fluidly fit a 3D space RTS. I hope BW doesn't get the wrong idea in their heads from Generals 2. But the future is wide open, and I hope to enjoy the ME universe for many years to come.
I just hope BioWare don't give in to any external pressure exerted by EA and end up making a mediocre game . I hope EA provides BioWare enough time to plan a future , if there happens to be one , for the series rather than pressurizing them to make a 4th game just for the sake of making a quick buck .
I like the potential of Mass Effect. I already started a therad in ME2 forums about this. I talked about how Mass Effect could be a potential setting for a RTS game. I mean, RTS like Company of Heroes or Star Wars: Empire at War.
I think it would be awesome if they made another game in the series but not a third person shooter like the Shepard trilogy, one where you could choose your race, use biotics (or even melee) as a primary weapon instead of a million different guns (like half the bad ass characters in your squad), even make it a bit more free-romy. I know that sounds like a completely different game, but in the end its not a part of the trilogy.
Do something ELSE in the Mass Effect universe. Take a break from this exact brand of action role playing for a while. A straight third person shooter might be fun, single player or multiplayer focused; or a Frozen Synapse style tactical game, or even a large scale strategy game like Spore. I'm down for more Mass Effect, but I want the designers to give a LONG time before returning to that formula and beginning the next proper trilogy (or whatever form the sequels take.)
ME3 was one of the few games I was looking forward to. Then Origin happened..... and then EA said they wanted to makes games exclusive to their service...... and then all my support for them went out the window. Good job on loosing my trust EA not once not twice but three times now in under 10 years.
Ha! I knew it! I wrote in a previous post that they might and probably will bring out another game set in the same universe, but with a different protagonist/premise. For which I was negative voted like there was no tomorrow. I hate GS users sometimes. But yer, an game that focuses on the Asari, or Turian battles. Or a game that lets you pick your own race to play as would be awesome!
I'm looking forward to ME 1.5... the part where technology was decided to get worse and I had to 'cooling clip' hunt to shoot my guns. I would really like to see how that all panned out. In all honesty though, of course they will whore out the universe. They have done it via comics and books so far already. With EA behind it we will see no end to yearly sequels if they can find enough studios to build it.
