EA says upcoming Citadel DLC for Mass Effect 3 will be an "emotional ride with their favourite characters."
BioWare has announced the final batch of single-player DLC for Mass Effect 3, titled Citadel, with the developer promising players an "emotional ride with their favourite characters."
Citadel promises to bring fan-favourite characters along for "one final, sentimental journey" in Commander Shepard's trilogy, including Miranda, Garrus, and Wrex.
The file size of the content is so big that Xbox 360 owners will be required to download it in two chunks, having to pay 1,200MSP for the first part and then getting the second for free. Citadel will not function on the Xbox 360 without the first pack.
PC and PS3 users will get all of Citadel in one download. The pack will be released on March 5 for $14.99/1,200MSP.
"When a sinister conspiracy targets Commander Shepard," wrote BioWare community manager Chris Priestly on BioWare's forums, "you and your team must uncover the truth, through battles and intrigue that range from the glamour of the Citadel’s Wards to the top-secret Council Archives. Uncover the truth and fight alongside your squad--as well as the cast from the original Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2."
In addition to Garrus, Miranda, and Wrex, BioWare has teased a return for Liara, James, and Kaidan in the pack's screenshots.
After players have finished the main chunk of content, Citadel will contain an additional hub to explore, promising both minigames and additional story content.
"When the adventure is over, reconnect with your favorite characters from the Mass Effect Trilogy, try your luck at the Citadel's Silver Coast Casino, blow off steam in the Armax Combat Arena, or explore and furnish Shepard's own living quarters on the Citadel. With unique content and cinematics featuring your friends and romance interests in the Mass Effect trilogy, Mass Effect 3: Citadel offers one final chance to see the characters you have known for years and rekindle romances."
"The team has poured heart and soul into Mass Effect 3: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3: Citadel. As the launch of these chapters near, the feeling around the studio is bittersweet," said executive producer Casey Hudson.
Alongside Citadel, BioWare formally announced the previously rumoured Reckoning multiplayer pack, which will be released for free on February 26.
"Newfound allies join the multiplayer war for survival in Mass Effect 3: Reckoning," said Priestly. "The Geth Juggernaut, Female Turian Raptor, Talon Mercenary, Alliance Infiltration Unit, and more take up arms to stop the Reaper threat. Smash your enemies with the Biotic Hammer as you lay waste to the battlefield as the Krogan Warlord."
"Wield 7 new weapons for multiplayer, including the Geth Spitfire Assault Rifle, Venom Shotgun, Lancer Assault Rifle, and amplify your arsenal with new equipment and weapon mods featuring the Geth Scanner and Assault Rifle Ultralight materials."
BioWare is now working on a new Mass Effect game alongside Dragon Age III: Inquisition.

Now you can see that the ending holds no consistency with the rest of the game... meaning there is no artists integrity (in regards to the ending).
So to claim artistic integrity as a reason for not changing is incorrect, leaving the only viable option to be laziness. If you fail to see how the ending is inconsistent I can post some links... though may take me a little while to find them.

3 Like I think the real problem is that Bioware painted themselves into a corner with the ending. If this DLC comes before the ending, everything is completely invalidated. If this comes AFTER the ending it invalidates the ending itself.
I might actually buy the game now that all the DLC is available. After all the bad press I just decided to wait to disappointed (I already know how it ends) until I could get the full package. ME2's DLC was solid. Shadow broker was better then many of the sections of the main game in ME2. Actually the only DLC I disliked was arrival which absolutely paled in comparison in length and quality to the rest of the DLC (well kasumi wasn't much longer but still at least there you got a James bond style scenario and a new character).

1 Like Given everything they're throwing into Citadel, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an all-cast orgy included somewhere.
But I have to agree that this does feel like we're being vigorously milked. I hope the main campaign has signposts as to where it fits in with the main canon.
2 Like Could they possibly have milked the fans any more? I haven't even played ME the dlc thing kills any expectations I have for the game. I would like to play it. I think the trailers look cool. But when I buy a game and can't get the whole experience out of the box without having to fork over more money it's just not worth it to me. As if $60 isn't enough for developers they want to milk us for everything they can. I'm 36 years old and just about done with gaming because of tactics like this.
@jdc6305 I would normally agree, but having played through Mass Effect 3 already without any DLC (besides the free Extended Cut), I was satisfied that the game WAS the complete package. Bioware gives you a massive game that starts and ends on its own, and they put out DLC that are just optional cherries on top.
@InnerSenses They are tiny expansions that you pay way too much for, the quality of expansions has gone to crap..
That they had to change the ending is not an ignorable point and fits in with the idea that they are just money grabbing, push the product out the door as fast as possible, don't worry about quality, just quantity and when that poor quality impacted on quantity they were forced to fix it, to make their game a complete package... these DLC's are just enabling more quantity and lower quality to be sold for a higher price... these DLC's could be included in the main game and no one would think any different... include them all and ME might even be considered a great rather than good game (and I give that only by ignoring the ending even after DLC)...
But hey everyone will continue to buy in to the whole DLC thing and let the quality of games continue to degrade...
DLCs should be a way for companies to add stuff on to their game that they think of later, not a way to pump out a game as fast as possible, an excuse to have an incomplete game, but that seems to be the way it is treated... Or random crap like a flower covered weapon for those who have money or an incredible love for a quality game and want it all.
I'll look to Blizzard and HoTS EXPANSION(!) to set a good example of how it should be done... they have no problems managing to make a complete package... You can keep your rotten cherries...

2 Like This will probably be like Leviathan. The idea was cool and if it was in the original game it would have made the story and ending better but instead it was DLC so its impact could only have so much. This DLC will probably be no different.

What to say...FOR ME, this is the BEST song in history of gaming and ME 2 truly? one of the best games ever, memorable, raw emotions, fascinating ending, memorable locations and music or characters, perfect writing, plot, gameplay - this game is the whole package and truly the piece of art...i love this game i went through with all possible choices...ME 3 was such a HUGE dissapointment - for me, it simply ruined my feeling for ME universe thus i still rather come to ME 2 which is simply perfect.

Does anyone know if this DLC will take place BEFORE or AFTER the ending? It would make more sense in my opinion to have it happen if you chose the destroy ending with Shepherd shown to be alive in the final cutscene.

2 Like Awesome. I really enjoyed ME2 and ME3 DLCs. (Shadow Borker, Leviathan, Overload, Omega etc etc.) So I hope this will be as much as awesome as they are.
2 Like Thank you Bioware,i loved Mass Effect Trilogy and i loved Mass Effect 3 ending even more,but i had concerns about not seeing much of Wrex and Miranda in Mass Effect 3 and now i see that will be fulfilled as well,just add new outfits for them,seeing Wrex in the same red armor since Mass Effect 1 is a little awkward.

@RadPro @predator7256 I'm pretty sure that ME3 would have lost money if people had been aware of how much of a joke the ending is.... and then I would also not purchase ME1 and 2... but seeing as I did buy them and Bioware and EA ripped me off I will continue to warn others not to buy it... so it's not quite as simple as "Don't buy it"...
