If Irrational Games' next project is a follow-up to BioShock Infinite, executive vice president of development Rod Fergusson will not be around to help. The former Gears of War producer confirmed to Polygon today that he is leaving the Boston-area developer.

Fergusson joined Irrational Games in August, leaving Epic Games after seven years to serve as a "closer" on BioShock Infinite. With that job finished, the developer is planning to move on, though he said he's not sure where he will go or what he will do next.

"I am very proud of the work that I did and of the team and what they were able to accomplish on Infinite," Fergusson said in an email. "Now with the game shipped successfully, I've done what I set out to do here and now I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my life and career."

In all, Fergusson spent nine months at Irrational Games and leaves just weeks after BioShock Infinite released to critical acclaim.
