Big in Japan Oct. 17-23: Macross F, Naruto Shippuden
Namco Bandai represents the majority of top 10 titles; 3DS sales spike due to new model colour.
Publisher Namco Bandai is on a roll, if the recently updated Media Creates sales charts are anything to go by. The update details sales in Japan for the week of October 17 to October 23, with new titles like Gekijouban Macross F: Sayonara no Tsubasa Hybrid Pack (also known as Macross F: The Wings of Goodbye) for the PS3 and Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Impact for the PSP sitting in the top two slots. The former sold 142,607 units, while the latter sold 53,148 units.
The Macross F Hybrid Pack consists of the movie Macross F: Sayonara no Tsubasa and a flight action game based on events from the movie. The latter puts players in the shoes of a pilot who controls a jet-robot hybrid with three forms to combat the biomechanical aliens known as the Vajra.
Former top-ranking title Ace Combat: Assault Horizon for the PS3 was at eighth place, with 167,591 units sold. AKB 1/48: Idol no Guam de Koishitara went from fourth to ninth place, with 17,562 units sold. The open-world zombie genocide title Dead Island also made its debut on the charts via Japanese publisher Spike. The PS3 version was at fifth place, with 39,945 units sold, while the Xbox 360 version was in 10th place, with 13,147 units sold.
Football title FIFA 12 from EA also made its mark on the top 10, coming in at sixth place, with 25,640 units sold, and just above renowned competitor Pro Evolution Soccer 2012, which sold 22,902 units.
In hardware news, the colour pink seems to have done a lot of good things for Nintendo, with the new 3DS colour, lavender-pink, helping the publisher to sell 73,933 units of the system this week. The rest of the consoles on the list went down in numbers--Sony sold 23,897 PS3 units and 22,095 PSP units.
