the wii would have been the best system if: 1:better graphics 2:better controller connectivity 3:nintendo could release a game with a rating above T
Nintendo's latest DS RPG continues strong sales run in island nation, as Uncharted 2 debuts in fifth; Sony console edges out Wii hardware sales.
More than a month after Nintendo's latest got-to-catch-'em-all role-playing game debuted big on Japanese store shelves, the Pokemon juggernaut continues to steamroll at retail. Reporting on the week of October 12-18, Japanese stat-tracking firm Media Create said that Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver combined to sell 164,721 units for the DS, securing the top spot in its weekly sales chart.
Another game that's sure to remain at the top of Media Create's chart for quite some time, Wii Fit Plus, finished the week in second place with 118,167 units. Two DS games followed: Nintendo's Tomodachi Collection with 63,086 units and Level 5's Inazuma Eleven 2: Kyoui no Shinryokusha - Blizzard with 60,580 copies sold. Sony and Naughty Dog's highly rated PlayStation 3 exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves rounded out the top 5, debuting with 53,827 units sold.
Capcom's Okami for the Wii represented the only other charting debut of the week, finishing in sixth with 23,810 units sold. Nintendo's MotionPlus-equipped Wii Sports Resort landed in seventh place with 22,808 units, followed by Gran Turismo for the PSP Go with 22,027 copies sold. DS titles Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey and Love Plus rounded out the chart with respective tallies of 19,642 and 19,561.
Sony's PlayStation 3 again topped Nintendo's Wii by a slim margin during the week, selling 30,231 units to 29,965. Both consoles, of course, finished light-years ahead of Microsoft's Xbox 360, which sold a mere 3,662 units on the week. As is typically the case, portables led hardware during the week, as the DSi and DS Lite combined for 51,735 while the PSP shifted 33,508 units.

Good to see Okami still selling. I hate myself for it, but I'm right near the end and still haven't finished it.. That's my goal once school ends in December.
@ wiifan001 Wow, is that envy i see? Nintendo lost about 50% profit. See its useless bashing on any system or company. All should prosper because in the long run its better for all of us. PS3 is a great system and there is no denying that just like how the xbox360 is great and Nintendo is undeniably great as well....except for the wii though.
Good job PS3. Sold out the Wii and 360. If the Ps3 doesn't win the console wars this year, it will be a hell've a compitition next year.
@GNWPCD I agree, owning two of the three consoles I am glad they are doing well. One thing about your comment though is your bit about supply and demand. This is true in most cases, if you were making a profit on the product in demand. But think if Sony really was making a loss like all the articles stated on every console old, the more demand there is the more money they would lose.
@KaizerJinn I actually don't actually blame the games for Sony slipping, I blame it more on a high price point for a machine which did pretty much everything its competitor did and some things not as well. This is ofc my opinion because I don't make the most of Blu-ray because I don't really care about movies, it is a games machine after all.
Took Sony long enough, but seems like they are finally getting it together in the world wide market. All it took was lowering the price which people had been asking them to do for years. Supply and Demand that's all it comes down to. Lower the price to meet demand and people will buy it. Even in Japan. But I don't think Nintendo is crying any time soon.. they still have a lot of the top 10 selling games there on the DS and Wii. If anything seems like Microsoft is having a rough go out there in the land of the rising sun. But they are doing well in the US market so it all equals out for everyone. As a video game fan I'm happy to see all 3 companies doing well in various markets. It keeps games coming and the market strong for a long time to come. Everyone wins no matter which system you own.
@Draaagoon i always find it amusing that people think 'SONY' is slipping because 'DEVELOPERS' dont make alot of good games for PS3. LoL. i personally think sony did a great job on making a wonderful machine. it's the developers job to exploit it. IMO. =)
oh yeah. I use to have a launch 360 with around 30 games. got a RROD and decided I wouldn't mess with them anymore. Don't lecture me.
hey get this my friend (360 fanboy) said "uncharted 2 is an overrated copy of indiana jones" what a dumbass.
PS3 fanboyism spawned long before articles like this. It started with 360 fanboys rubbing it in the PS3 fanboys faces with the poor launch. The PS3 is a wonderful machine Tech wise. It was just a bit pricey. Totally worth it in my opinion. Besides half of the 360 fanboys are ex-PS2 fanatics and it's only a matter of time before they show the PS3 some love. With the current price drop everyone should give one a shot. Had mine since launch and it's kept me and my wife pretty entertained and gets the job done.
ive played over 24 hours of uncharted 2, and i kinda think pokemon is getting old now, but whatever.
@Neogenic Sorry I didn't realise Nintendo actually created the Pokemon franchise. Lol Pokemon history is not really a strong interest and I thought it was the cartoons before the game. You and Wiki have set me right. So I totally agree, don't see this game going anywhere other than Nintendo. :)
i could say that "x360 beat the crap out of DS lite", but i will receive some thumbs down, so i will not say that. :P
@Draaagoon I get where you are coming from. Most companies like Bethesda, Squasoft-Enix, etc. have been selling system exclusives and have now started to sell their games across other platforms. But these are 3rd party vendors. Besides one Zelda game on the CDI, have you ever seen Mario, Zelda, Crash Bandicoot or any other console trademark character appear in a game outside their own platform? When a company that actually makes consoles owns a certain franchise, it is unheard of that this company would release their titles across other platforms, for if they did, there would be no reason for the consumer to buy their consoles.
@Draaagoon The comparing part is pretty much with every fanboy, not only with the Playstation 3 fanboys. Every side has it's owns. Some fanboys, don't really even care about the topic, they're just curious to see what the other has to say about the claim. Well, I know it hasn't felt like a waste to me, but that's just my opinion, like yours is yours.
@ taddia I think everyone has given the PS3 some respect, it has always been a good console even from release. But sadly PS3 fanboys feel the need to compare it and say its better than its competitors when in truth, it has been slacking and has been about equal with competitors. After playing Uncharted 2 though, I think now we are seeing the real potential of the console and I am glad because honestly, for the past year it has felt like a waste of Ł300.
@ Neogenic Tbh in this gaming generation, "never say never" would be the thing to keep in mind. We have all seen many console exclusives become multi-platform. If Pokemon really is the uber cash cow real deal, once Nintendo have milked all its worth to Nintendo fans, there is nothing to say they will not sell exclusive rights for one or more games to another developer or manufacturer for stupid amounts of cash.
i'm disgusted for what im about to say... but im kinda happy ps3 got some respect, it's a good gaming system, it was time it had some comeback... (said by a nintendo supporter)
@xra897 & anyone replying The chances of Pokemon being released on any other system then Nintendo is non-exsistent as the Pokemon franchise is owned by Nintendo.
So the PS3 is in full stride now, that's good to see. I still disagree with fanboys making out like every sale of the console somehow makes it better than the 360. Both consoles release great games.
@xra897 Aaaand... would Pokemon be much different on PSP or PS3? Besides, do you really think that a Pokemon game would be released on any non-Nintendo console?
@xra897 That will never happen, it just wouldnt be a Pokemon if it were put on a Playstation console... or any other console other than Nintendo to be honest (not a Nintendo fangirl) but im just saying.
All Japaneses love Pokémon, that's why it sells a lot there! I think Pokémon will never stop being a "Must Buy" in Japan
ha ha this is nothing december 17th when final fantasy 13 is released exclusivley for the ps3 in japan thats gonna be interesting
distance between ps3 and wii - only 266 phanks to uncharted 2 (great game bu too shirt ). after new silent hill , new super mario an new resident evil (exclusive for wii) release wii became number 1 as it should be. I'm playing Okami on my WII - great controls!!!
Next month will be the real month to see which console sells better. CoD will be a good game and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. That will say which system sells more.
@IslanderSwagg are you surprised? I already got the Japanese game. It's better than any other pokemon game to DATE!
