Nintendo's minigame compilation again tops Media Create's weekly chart, selling 155,000; DSi's 46,855 tops hardware.
Wii Sports Resort won't hit the US until later this month, but Nintendo's latest accessible minigame compilation is already making waves in Japan. Opening to nearly 360,000 units in mid-June, the Wii MotionPlus-bundled game posted another strong performance during its second week on the market. Media Create reports this week that Wii Sports Resort topped its Japanese software sales chart for the week of June 29-July 5 with 155,000 units sold.
Sega's rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Project Diva for the PSP scored the week's biggest debut, opening with 101,000 units and taking the second slot in Media Create's chart. Nintendo's Tomodachi Collection for the DS followed with 63,000 units, and Sony's PSP title Boku no Natsuyasumi 4: Seitouchi Shounen Tanteidan, Boku to Himitsu no Chizu debuted to 50,000 unit sales. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite the Best, which Capcom said had just recently surpassed the 1 million unit mark, sold 14,000 more copies.
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days scored the sixth position during the week with 13,000 units sold, followed by Level 5's Sloane and MacHale's Mysterious Story and Ken to Mahou to Gakuen Mono 2 with 12,000 units a piece. Gust's Rorona no Atelier: Arland no Renkinjutsushi for the PS3 shifted 11,000 copies, and Sega's Infinite Space rounded out the chart with 10,000 units sold.
On the hardware front, Nintendo's DSi and DS Lite combined to sell 54,362 systems, making it the top-selling platform during the week. The PSP followed with 32,849 units, while Nintendo's Wii led console sales with 24,971 units. The PlayStation 3 sold 11,196 units during the week, while the Xbox 360's 5,876 units edged past the PlayStation 2's 3,734 systems.

I just thought, WSR wouldn't be too bad if you could play it online. Come on Kcube, you know you would want to knock the crap of me in that sword fighting game lol.
Wii sports........why? The only wii-anything game that is good is Wii Fit and even that has its problems, its sad to see how the gaming market expands and how the quality of games goes down....actually that only applys to nintendo wii
Can't believe Wii Sport Resort beat Project Diva. But then again Wii owners are being be starved of games. So they're desperate for anything thing Nintendo throws at them. Sad really...
Wii Sports Resort is number 1, followed by a rhythm game with "Project Diva" in the title. Hmm, no joke is really necessary here.
MIKU MIKU NI SHlTEAGERU im thinking half at least half of the Project Diva sales came from Nico Nico Douga's pre-order frenzy. i want psp so much just to play this game
So that's 155,000 people who are going to be annoyed when they realise that they need to buy another WM+ to enjoy the multiplayer part.
console sales are yuck in japan!!!....i hope we see a day where sales here in japan will be equivalant to america!
Playing fetch... with a dog... is a sport now... Nintendo what are you doing? Where did my friends from the 90s go?
Next week is going to be very interesting when Dragon Quest IX is released in Saturday in Japan. How many copies will be sold in its first week will be a surprise.
@ Darkainious: Ah wonderful! That'll make me so happy, I always felt gripping the controller with two hands right around its buttons when they weren't being used was very clumsy.
@ Aireannaiel They said that the extended length of the wii motion plus makes gripping the controller with two hands very comfortable.
@bgres077 - and if they are a day late? Who cares? This stuff isn't my life...I don't need on the minute news :|
The video made me think of a few things: First, a glove sleeve for the Wiimote would be ideal for exact simulations of many sports in which you don't always grip. Second, games that taught basic matial arts or swordsmanship would be ideal for those who may be interested, but cannot afford classes. And third, an elongated Wii Motionplus handle for two-handed katana/lightsaber gripping should be explored.
I hope the reason for this Resort surge is for the game as much as the hardware, otherwise we'll have another Wii Play selling frenzy for Nintendo's new motion control scheme.
