This proof all Nintendo needed was a good game to help hardware sell. And now with the price drop of 3DS soon and all the good games that should be released before the end of the years i think if Sony don't release the Vita soon they will be in trouble.
Portable version of PS2 RPG pushes sales for system; Super Street Fighter IV: AE and GoldenEye 007 tailing behind.
While the 3DS version of Tales of the Abyss will be localized in English sometime this year, the Japanese version is already on shelves--and off them again. The Namco Bandai role-playing game took the top spot on Media Create's latest sales chart, selling 74,173 copies for the week of June 27 through July 3. Tales of the Abyss is the eighth mothership title in the Tales series, and it introduces the flex range linear motion battle system that allows free 3D movement during combat.
Occupying second place on the chart is the PlayStation 3 version of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. This version of the game sold 54,924 on its debut week, while the Xbox 360 version is in 12th place with 12,326 units sold. The second update to the fighting game introduces four new playable characters and a rebalanced character roster. The former king of the charts last week, Meruru no Atelier: Alchemist no Renkinjutsushi 3, is now at seventh place with 23,756 units sold. The 3DS version of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still staying strong in the top 10, residing at sixth place with 24,190 units sold.
New to Japan is Test Drive Unlimited 2, the racing game that came out on March outside of the region. The PS3 version sold 15,254 units and resides in 10th place, while the Xbox 360 sold 7,765 units and is at 19th place. The Wii version of GoldenEye 007 also made its debut on the charts; the game is in fourth place with 36,174 units sold. Also interesting to note is the position drop of Ryu Ga Gotoku: Of the End, with the title dropping from seventh place the previous week to 14th place with 11,867 units sold.
Over on the hardware side, the 3DS took the top slot, thanks largely to the portable debut of Namco Bandai's RPG. The 3DS sold 30,233, barely beating the PSP and its unit sales count of 29,871. Otherwise, the hardware positions were largely the same as last week's charts.

[UPDATE]: GoldenEye 007 is published by Nintendo, not Ubisoft, as this article originally stated. GameSpot apologizes for the confusion.
@shadowysea07 Kinda disappointed there's no extras in the 3DS version... Still I might get at a later date, since I didn't finish ToA on the PS2. But for now I think I will focus on getting Kid Icarus when it comes, games are expensive where I live.
@GunBladeHero oh and different button placements/stuff wired too them. alot of stuff that would of been on l2 r2 buttons on the ps2 version is on the dpad i heard on the 3ds version. so really theres no reason to get the port.
@GunBladeHero nope sadly the only difference gameplay wise is slightly faster loading times and a rebalanced unknown mode.
@wildinferno1991 it is coming to the eu and na by the end of this year. supposedly its eu release date is november 10th.
oh and test drive unlimited 2 wow - 2 of my favorites well excluding 00t which everyone knows darn well any nintendo made game except wii music fling smash and pokemon are my favs
wow goldeneye doing suprisingly good over there and wii numbers has risin , good to see the home console market back on stride 3ds go 3ds ,, 35 thousand handhelds nintendo units ds wont die 8 thousand of those and 29 plus of 3ds good sales numbers all around xcept xbox and psp go and the old dslite
wow tales of the abyss number one? that game was simply one word....AMAZING one of my most favorite jrpgs ever and even got its own anime series too which again was such a good series i even cried at the end
I would love to play Tales Of The Abyss on the 3DS, loved that game on the PS2. If the 3DS was region free I would so import it now.
PS2 Tales of the Abyss got less than 8.0 because of technical issues. If you didn't play it and are into JRPGs I absolutelly recommend it. If not... well, fighting is in real time, fast paced and simple fun combo building; if that sounds good to you, go for it.
@GunBladeHero The only thing Abyss 3D has that is not on ps2 is the 3d of course, better loading times and it removed all the bad glitches. This is no change in the story content/gameplay and all that. It is exactly the same as the ps2 version with being a cleaner version on the 3DS
so ninty will publish a game (007) for japan, but not for us (Xenoblade - & it's already largely translated, lol). funny, nintendo. i hate you!
I love where the PSP is positioned in the charts after all these years. Second from top. It just goes to show there is still life in the handheld.
The Japanese sure love their portables. :) Wish we could get back sales numbers for North America, guess the NPD is lazy that way.
psp, ps2, ps3 and sony ftw! too bad the psp go was discontinued... they should remove it from the charts...
If someone got their hands on the japanese 3DS version of Tales of the Abyss please tell me if there's new content, or any kind of extras that there wasn't in the PS2 version. I would really aprecciate it! XD
i love that 7 people bought a psp go.... at this rate sony will be able to afford the name brand coffee about their offices
