Namco Bandai RPG, Sengoku Musou 3 Z both score 200K-plus debuts; PSP outsells PSP Go 1,000 to 1.
Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 3 may no longer be at the top of Media Create's weekly Japanese sales charts, but software for Sony's console and portable continues to reign supreme. For the week of February 7-13, Media Create reports that Namco Bandai's role-playing game Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3 for the PSP sold 222,068 units, followed closely by Koei Tecmo's PlayStation 3 beat-'em-up Sengoku Musou 3 Z, which sold 208,548 units.
Both Namco Bandai's and Koei Tecmo's titles launched during the week, but they weren't the only debuts to crack Media Create's top 10. Sony's customization-heavy platformer Little Big Planet 2 scored a fifth-place debut, selling 24,648 units, while fellow PS3 title Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, from Take-Take, finished seventh with 21,718 units sold. Koei Tecmo's Sengoku Musou 3 Moushouden for the Wii slotted in at sixth, selling 22,598 units.
It was a tale of two PSPs on the hardware chart. Sony's flagship handheld led hardware during the week, selling 106,893 units, while its UMD-less cousin, the PSP Go, sold 1/1,000th of that figure. The remaining systems had decidedly average sales weeks, with the PS3 shifting 26,706 consoles, the Wii logging 15,028 units, and the DSi line combining to sell 22,108 units.

I don't understand why we, Playstation 3 users get Dynasty Warriors ... and we don't get Samurai Warriors .... Here, in the North American, at least...for myself, prefers NINJAS and SAMURAI rather than these guys in Dynasty Warriors. And at least in Samurai Warriors... they don't play with "heros weapons" they don't change weapons each sequel ...
It's certainly quite suprising to see such strong sales for the PSP models with the NGP and Experia on the way, but then you could say the same for DS sales with the 3DS incoming. One element of worry for Sony is that people are still not touching the PSP Go, when they're pushing the move to downloadable media in the next gen.
wow, they should just stop development and shipment on the go. Especially with the NGP coming out.
Sony is on top. It's strange how many solid games Sony has released in the past six months. It's like they're trying to get as many more quality games on the PSP as they can to better their image and thus bolster sales for the NGP. I'm not knocking them for it, it's a smart strategy. I just wish they'd hurry up with MHP3.
@Gezo24 I have a PSP 3k but UMD sucks, simple as that. If you ask me, UMD was a mistake to begin with. And NGP looks more promising.
I think it's kind of weird that the PSP is selling so well now of all times: not long after the NGP was announced. If I didn't have a PSP now, I'd save for an NGP instead, which should be available this holiday. But that's just me. In any case, hooray to Sony. But I hope sales for NGP goes well too, even if a lot of people are getting the PSP now.
@CodyTG: The US has a higher population, and therefore a smaller market. Your statistics are based purely on numbers, when in this case, only percentages hold relevance. Consider that the highest-selling game on that list sold 220k. In the US, that's pitiful. But Japan's lower population makes that number more impressive. On another note, while I'm a huge Tales fan, Radiant Mythology isn't the right game to bring to the US. I cant' wait for Graces F though. The Tales series is severely under-appreciated in the US.
Not to start any flaming but.. I like how people rave that the PS3 out sells Xbox 360 in Japan with comments like "Xbox 360 sells better in the US, but Sony owns Japan!". While that is in fact true, if you go by numbers, 360 outsells PS3 by about 100,000 consoles in the US and the PS3 outsells the 360 by about 25,000. So that at 75,000 console difference. To Take the US market would be a smarter thing to do, so if Microsoft stays on top of the US market, they will always succeed. Just a fact I wanted to point out. Not picking sides, just justifying.

Psp Go is a joke, no one wanted to disband all of their UMD games. Im very dissapointed the NGP will not use UMDs.

The PSP and the PS3 sold better than the 360 because it's Japan. 360s are more popular in the west while PS3s are more popular in the east. Now, if only Namco Bandai could make US ports of their Japanese Tales games...

Here in Japan, PSP is king. I'm disappointed Valkyria Chronicles 3 disappeared from the charts so quickly.
LOL @ the sales for the PSP GO thats just sad. Wow I didn't know the PSP sold so much, Oh it might be because they get a ton of good games here in America we barely see as much good ones
@mario-nin-freak The PSP is considered a main platform and a lot of games are made just for it not to mention Monster Hunter is of WoW in Japan cause almost everyone plays it there.
i find it funny how sony and nintendo dominate japan ms and nintendo dominate us its wierd , im not sure whos dominating europe but vg charts tells me nintendo and sony are there as well , and ya why are people hoarding psps when 3ds and psp 2 /ngp are around the corner/out?

PS3 just won. It will win in Japan just like in the rest of the world. Its awesome that America is the decider and for that the xbox 360 will win the console war / From here, the Wii will go downhill as more people can buy HDTV's worldwide and why the ps3 wins everywhere except the Americas and U.K
