noturfangirl says someone who never played the game, I played Metroid Other M and its nowhere near as bad as you or the other hates say it is, it plays like a true Metroid game your just bithcing because they made Samus Aran a bit more human.
Team Ninja's take on Samus finishes third in debut week, behind Capcom's latest PSP Monster Hunter and Wii Party; Modern Warfare 2 budget release cracks top 10.
In a Game Developers Conference session earlier this year, Metroid creator Yoshio Sakamoto said his sci-fi adventure series was seen as a niche title in Japan. Be that as it may, the latest franchise iteration for the Wii finished a respectable third place on Media Create's Japanese sales charts for its debut week.
The Team Ninja-developed Metroid: Other M moved 45,398 copies for the week, outsold only by the latest entry in Capcom's phenomenally successful (in Japan) Monster Hunter series and Nintendo's latest minigame collection for the phenomenally successful (everywhere) Wii. In its second week of release, MonHun Nikki topped the chart with 88,405 copies sold. Wii Party was a distant second with 55,837 copies sold.
Beyond Metroid, the only other new release to crack the top 20 was the Sony-published PSP fighter Bleach: Heat the Soul 7 in fifth place with 25,374 sold. Technically, Activision's 2009 blockbuster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could be considered a new release on the charts, as the bargain-priced rerelease of the game sold 9,162 copies in its first week on shelves, good enough for ninth place.
There were few notable trends in hardware sales for the week, with most consoles and handhelds roughly flat with the previous week's performance. The most notable exception to that would be PSP sales, which saw a dramatic uptick for the week of MonHun Nikki's launch and dropped about 37 percent week-over-week to a more reasonable 34,839 systems sold. Even with the drop, the PSP remained the best-selling system of the week.

Samus didn't turn out to be the strong and independant character I initially envisioned, but I still enjoyed Other M.
just got to end of other M and well it is a shadow of the Prime games. The controls are really the star of the game, showing people how 3D action games can be done with just the Wiimote to good effect, however lapses in design, story telling, informative feedback (what am i fighting?) and a small scale (the ship is big but you feel the game should be bigger due to the lack of detail in some environments) made me feel short changed. it's a side story at best, added nothing to samus an portrayed her as a whiney midget, when she's supposed to be 6'2 warrior woman.Team ninja and nintendo should have called it Metroid Gaiden. Put retro back on the franchise or let them rip with a galactic federation multiplayer game.
whats up with gamestop not letting us see the negative comments now? Awe did they get their feelings hurt? :D
So i guess every one likes how they just butcher one of the best heroines in video game history -_-?
i just started playing other m and the game just FEELS great. i dunno, maybe it because im playing samus or something but the game has a fantastic feel to it.
I think it's not surprising Metroid: Other M sold well. It's a Metroid game....or at least that's what it's labeled as. IMO however it's not a true Metroid game, it doesn't stick to the cores of Metroid that heavily emphasized exploration, puzzles, and unlocking abilities. The direction they took this game made it seem more like an Anime than Metroid. Samus has always had the ability to talk since the first Metroid game, developers chose not to add text everytime she fought a boss for a reason it's been the style of this series and it's part of Samus's character in this game. The monotone monlogues that Samus gives in this game seem rather out of character for her and overall she seems different almost too emo I wanna say. Which is unlike her based on the entire Metroid series. The graphics retain a cartoonish and unpolished feel for them unlike the Prime series and the exploration is sadly missing, why are missile upgrades labeled on your map? It seems like they really toned down this game for casuals which I'm frankly upset about. The game is too easy for me, I just held the shoot button in most rooms and it did the work for me no aiming or anything, nothing like the Prime series which took more thinking to play, the environments seem really bland as well, overall I'm not satisfied with the latest 'Metroid'. Of course I don't really consider this a Metroid game after playing it. :P Just my opinion. :]
I actually like The Other M. I think it's a great game and is a great addition to the Metroid franchise.
When you see the glorified movie at the beginning of the game(metroid), you just say wow! This game is going to have an epic boss at the end. When you reach the end, it feels like someone slapped you in the face. Its so mediocre it just hurts they did this to the franchise. I was expecting so much more since this game got delayed back in april. Its make you wonder the reason to delay it was to create hype. Then days before it was release, I'm grateful it got leaked online. Thank God my wallet didn't have to suffer for this abomination.
for me they could put all the ds togeter becaus they are the same the only diffents is that ds lite has the gba slot and the dsi dsixll doesnt have one.But good for psp i like psp for mgs and kingdom hearts.
Other M is one of those games that has a divide opinion from the fans. Some people hate it, while others love it. To me the game was great, besides, i was tired of the Prime series. The only Prime that I liked was Corruption, because it was less annoying, but even so, I liked more Other M. I think it all depends on tastes. (This comes from a player that has played and ended every single Metroid, including Metroid II for the game boy).
Oh Dear, 45k for metroid other m? How did this game get an 8.5 rating? This game was horrendous! The Snes version is waaaaaay better. In fact, I need to play super metriod again to get the bad taste out of my mouth, left by this game :-X
I'm a huge metroid fan, but this game was just horrible. I wanted to like it but 30 mins into the game you ask yourself, where is the freaking music? The bosses do look great but are waaaaay too easy. No puzzles either? Thats what makes the game fun. Plus having to rely on some man to have her weapons? This game was an EPIC FAIL! The worst game in the series. Team Ninja, please leave nintendo's metroid franchise alone!
The PSP Go is being outsold by The Playstation 2 in 2010. In Japan. Sony as much as I love the PSP series. It is time for the PSP go to finally Stop. If it is being outsold by everything else in "Techno Gadget Happy" Japan. It is time to Stop the PSP Go experiment.
@hippiesanta well, this is Japan. In Japan, very few give a crap about the 360(probably only the employees of Microsoft Japan an their families, I guess lol) , hence the 360 is rarely appearing on the charts.
45k on its first debut!? i can't believe it'll sell that low despite over 10M installment of Wii in Japan! :(
Other m had no good music, too easy, too short. No puzzles. Too me it was a an epic fail to true metroid fans. Next time, I hope nintendo makes it themselves. I won't remember this game. The 45k sales says it all :(
Why on Earth are people still buying DS's? 3DS people! Patience! The original DS is dead to me. Hasn't been a single release on it, worth my time, in about 2 years. 3DS has me all excited though. Squeeeeel.
You mean there are STILL people in Japan left who haven't bought at least one version of the DS yet?
Those number are so low that it would be sad, except they still equal big bucks for their publishers. :P
Rough sales all around this month. Really surprised how well Wii party is doing month after month =S
