Free skins based on Batman Beyond, Batman: The Animated Series, Dark Knight Returns, and more available depending on which version of the game is ordered from which retailer.
Batman-loving gamers pondering their preorder choices for the upcoming Arkham City have a conundrum on their hands worthy of The Riddler himself. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is rolling out the regular and collector's editions of the game with a slew of preorder incentives that vary by store and by country.
As compiled by the fansite ArkhamCity.co.uk, there are five currently revealed Batman skins being used as preorder incentives, most of them exclusive to certain retailers. The one skin available at every store is the Dark Knight Returns skin (based on the classic Frank Miller graphic novel), which is included with every collector's edition purchase of the game.
A pair of cartoon renditions of the Caped Crusader are also in the offing, as GameStop UK offers the futuristic Batman Beyond skin for all preorders, while New Zealand-based Mighty Ape preorders will receive that skin, one based on Batman: The Animated Series, and a third skin based on DC's alternate universe Earth One comic version of Batman. There's one more skin based on a comic book version of Batman, with the Dark Knight sporting his classic blue-and-gray suit, or as British retailer ShopTo.net refers to it, the "1970s Batman suit."
As for non-skin preorder bonuses, Batman sidekick Robin makes his Arkham franchise debut as a playable character for customers who reserve the game at Best Buy (North America), JB Hi-Fi (Australia), or GameMania (Belgium). That bonus also includes a Red Robin skin for the character.
There are still more preorder incentives attached to Arkham Asylum, as North American GameStop customers can get the Joker's Challenge Carnival Map, while Amazon visitors are being tempted with a $10 store credit and a comic book collection of five eight-page stories tying into the game and penned by Paul Dini (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions only). Likewise, Wal-Mart is also offering US customers a $10 gift card with a preorder for the console versions of the game.
As of press time, a WBIE representative had not returned GameSpot's inquiry regarding when or if some of the currently region-exclusive preorder bonuses would be offered on a larger scale.
Batman: Arkham City is set for release October 18 in North America. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
Thanks, you just convinced me NOT to get the game. I am so sick of getting screwed with content taken out. I'm done
man if they dont be dlc I'm gonna be so pissed off. i mean come on 1 suite in arkham asylum now like a million lol and all from other places???? how stupid but smart and make me wanna buy the game over and over just to get all suits lol but to save money and time just make it all one dlc pack.
http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/87431/batman-arkham-city-batsuit-breakdown/ Hopefully all of these will be available as DLC very shortly after release. I do not see why they would not make them available. This is the type of DLC I am willing to pay an over the top price for. They are all awesome costumes. I just wish there were more, like the 1989 Batman. I will be very upset if they do not offer these to everyone.
I can't wait to get The Dark Knight Returns costume...even if I'll probably have to wait for it to become available as DLC about a month after the game is released.
If i get it on pc I guarantee someone will make a save hack within the first week and make all of the costumes available.
if they don't release all of them as dlc after a few months i will be mad. But god knows i'll be using that batman beyond skin all the time.
They are greedy than a mug....Were there any skins for Arkham Asylum? and if they were like many comments made, after a month or two, or two or three times beating the game you get tired of it and maybe want some thing new anyway. Just dont see how you justify particular retailers having different content for preorders.....All of this should be available with the game, and maybe just be "unlockables" as you go through the game. $65+ for game nowadays? Too many great games coming out to be forced to choose which retailer you want to preorder from....
If after a 2-5 months they are not released as DLC THEN complain. I won't be bothered, cause it's most likley these skins won't get damaged over time like the batsuit did in Arkham Asylum, I thought that was pretty cool. But if they haven't done that this time just so they could make extra skins, to make more money, I'll be a little (Not alot cause I know for a fact I will LOVE this game) dissapointed.
I HATE THIS!!!! Same with New Vegas. I understand the need, and I also accept the "benefit" for a month or two, but after that it should be available for all players. Perhaps for $2-$5. What if you liked 2 skins and they are in different stores? Buy the game twice? That is just wrong!
Therefore, if you're dead-set on grabbing all these various goodies, you're then forced to purchase MULTIPLE copies of the same game for each "code" - and then having to sell the extra games on Ebay (or what-have-you). Anyhow, I'm thoroughly sick of this nonsense. I'm no longer gonna' try and track down each specific Bonus. Sorry, but it's way too tiring (and EXPENSIVE) to go on these gaming treasure hunts. Hey, if they're somehow unlockable "in-game" or perhaps become DLC eventually, then great, otherwise... I'm done playing these games. These devs / retailers can all kiss my @ss.
Yep, these pre-order bonuses (especially "retailer specific ones") are the bane of my existence. LOL. When you combine this hardcore OCD of mine, along with my "collector" mentality, it can be a rather deadly combination to say the least. Considering that these matters in which I obsess over are so trivial (which I'm fully aware of), most people / gamers have a difficult time relating to my craziness. My overall desire to track down all this content, stems from "wanting a COMPLETE GAME". Sorry, but when I'm dropping upwards of $60 bucks for a single title (significantly more on Limited Editions obviously), I want the FULL EXPERIENCE, period. Geez, that's shouldn't be too much to ask for. Unfortunately, this current generation of consoles has adopted a rather unsettling trend, which is in direct correlation with the ever-growing popularity of digital content found on The Marketplace. That particular "trend", which developers / publishers and retail stores have chosen to exploit is "pre-order bonus content". Needless to say, these offerings are merely a ploy to get customers to shop at their specific store... the better (or more exclusive) the bonus content, the more likely they'll draw a sale from consumers. Sadly, developers are then forced to mutilate their creations, holding (sometimes) valuable pieces of content hostage. Granted, there's always the chance these pre-order bonuses will become DLC down the road... but that's not always the case.
The add-on incentives don't affect the game. Otherwise, the store that has the best incentive will get all of the pre-orders. The add-ons are aesthetic at best, for fans who have preferences. It has always been that way. The weapons and armor that were offered as incentives for Fallout: New Vegas were obselete once the player played about an hour into the game. Stores are paying Eidos to get something that gets them preorders. It's a new thing.
Oh Man ... They keep Robin as a playable character when the game is purchased from just one location ??? Next thing they'll do is release region specific DLC !!!
This is straight up BULL !!! i love the game but they're making the pre-order bonus itno a real life "Riddler's challenge" .... that's just not right !!! So I don't get the Robin stuff because I live in the UK
I hate buying games from Best Buy but I had to pre-order with them. It's too substantive of a bonus to pass up.
Yeah they need to make up they're mind about this pre-order ish. I as much as I want this game I think I'll just for the GOTY edition.
I won't be pre-ordering again! It is about time we as Gamers stopped conforming to these money grabbing, so called incentives, with brand new games? I pre-ordered a game a few months back and the Incentives were a complete waste of time, as they had no impact on the game play at all, when they claimed it would do! I just get super p*%%3d at the publishers that I considered, were above all this nonsense, but not now! Now they too decide to jump on the money wagon and create these pre-order Insults just like the rest do nowadays!? Guaranteed some of the game will be locked off too? You will need a super duper double pass to play all the content?* *I'd better stop and breath for a bit...?
With that many different pre-order bonuses, they should just include them with the collectors edition or something. I guess each retailer needs to stand out from the others to get a piece of the pie. Now I need to decide where to get my copy.
Kind of annoying that I won't be able to get the Animated series costume, because I never started watching that series since birth and my first word wasn't "Bat" as a result. That was sarcasm by the way.
This is bull****. As badly as I wanted this game, it has now made my boycott list (as utterly painful as that is). The game industry is now run by a bunch of asses.
Can we get that shot of Bats and Selina as a poster? Long dimension of the rectangle on the horizontal. That would look great over my comic collection.
For the price of the Collectors Edition, you'd think you would be able to have all of these bundled in .... it's a shame so many games these days have all of these different retailer preorder promotion shenanigans!
I seriously can't stand this pre-order nonsense. All of these skins should come as unlockables in the game when you buy it--no matter where you buy it from. Annoying.
Arrrrrgh!!!! I have this on pre-order at GameStop, but I'd much rather have the Robin character / preorder that Best Buy is doing. Oh well, here's to hoping they bilk us for more money by relesing it as DLC......
THIS IS SO STUPID. I hate when the Marketing Department of a game company tries to inflate preorders by making you preorder the game from 4 different retailers, and then you are "........" with the shipping cost to have it mailed to you and then for you to pay postage to return the game.
Arkham City looks awesome but with all due respect I'm probably not going to pre-order and I'm probably not getting it day one either even though it deserves it.... The release date is too close to Skyrim and that plus Rage and Deus Ex are my main priorities at the moment...... I'm not sure exactly sure how Rage will pan out but Skyrim and Deus Ex will most likely take up most of my time......
I don't really like when they do regional pre-orders. The skin I would want is only offered for the UK, which I'm obviously not going to be able to do given I live in the U.S. I mean if the purpose is to encourage pre-ordering, this just makes it less likely I would as now they've made me mad by making it so I can't get the pre-order bonus of my preference.
Batman The Animated series is an awesome show. I was a freshman in high school when that show started. Anyone who has a kid around the 9-13 yo range-pull a Clockwork Orange on them and make them watch that show. PS: Thats the only bonus I care about.
well, i'd like the batman beyond skin but i live in the u.s. second choice would be the animated series skin but i live in the u.s. is this country really that bad?
Pirates are getting all of the costumes for free. Let's hope they at least buy the game before doing so.
Well I'm gonna preorder anyway may as well make sure I go for the classic animated skin would kinda suck if you've already preordered to find out you get the Robin skin
It would probably be worth the five bucks just to not have to figure out who has the 'bonus' I want the most.
Is anyone really going to buy multiple version of this game just for some extra Batman skins? I'll pay 3 to 5 bucks to download the extra skins, I won't enjoy it and I'll complain about the good old days when publishers included all of the extra content in the actual game not the sassafrassin' DLC but I'd buy it.
Couldn't they just raise the price of the game like five bucks and sell me all of those skins and maps and characters at release? Wouldn't that just be easier for everyone?
