Mario, Brain Age swarmed by zombies of Dead Rising; bargain pricing sees Ridge Racer 6 drift into fourth, Unreal Championship fight for fifth.
Mario, Nintendo's popular protagonist, has faced off against all kinds of enemies in his travels, including piranha plants, bouncing fireballs, and even undead Koopas, but he's never taken on zombies proper. Though many expect the icon to get flattened by the linemen of Madden NFL 07, which releases later this month, the plumber was hit hard by a horde of zombies this week on BestBuy.com sales chart for the week of August 6.
Capcom's Dead Rising for the Xbox 360 takes over the top spot on this week's sales chart, ending Mario's three-week reign atop the list. The game had zero competition from other Xbox 360 titles this week, and it is the first full retail 360 game since NCAA Football 07 was released in mid-July.
The new zombies on the block mean that New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day have been pushed down to the second and third slots on the list, respectively. The number of DS titles on the top 10 list this week was halved from last week, with Trauma Center: Under the Knife the only other DS game making an appearance.
Bargain shoppers were at it again this week. Ridge Racer 6, one of the Xbox 360's launch titles, sped into fourth place after its price was cut down to just $19.99. BestBuy.com also decided to clear out some of its current-gen stock with radical discounts, skewing the week's results. Current-gen systems also got some discounted love, as Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict for the original Xbox vaulted into fifth place with its new price tag of $4.99, and Soul Calibur III for the PlayStation 2, now $19.99, fought into 10th place. Still, at least you could pick up the Capcom fighting game at the site--rivals like GameStop.com don't currently carry the title.
The rest of the top 10 was rounded out by NCAA Football 07 for the Xbox 360 (sixth) and PS2 (seventh), and the $14.99 PS2 Sprint Cars: Road to Knoxville in eighth.
The landscape will likely change next week, as new releases Ninety-Nine Nights (Xbox 360) and Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII (PS2), hit store shelves.

I wouldn't put too much weight on this chart, it's only Bestbuy.com. When you have a clearance sale, what do you expect?
well at least there are 3 DS game so its actually good. i must considre to buy Trauma Center, i hear good thing about that game since its came, am having blast with phoinix Wright
Yup, a definite victory for the MS / Nintendo alliance. I just love it when the great Xbox360 has the top spot! Surely not a victory for Fony!:D
Dead Rising is the best game I have played in a long time. it has been getting great and some bad reviews, but anyone that rates it under a 8.4 can't handle it. Its one amazing game. The mall is so huge!! I haven't seen all the stores yet. Go 360!!!
Every thing is good in the world when Xbox & Xbox 360 are both on the charts.GO MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wii60 all the way! I love competition when it comes to games. Thats why is good to have fanboys and causals, to keep competition up. I like going to video game outlets and having choices instead of being forced into buying a product, because its the only version of it out there. Thats why I like multi-platform games, because it's up to the consumer to buy which version, and it gives others who don't have that certain console that have there console of choice, they can enjoy that same great game.
That is the second week Sprint Cars has been on the list. I can't believe that. I think Dead Rising will be tops for at least one more week. I just bought mine from Best Buy last night, for $54 I might add.
Yet another victory for the MS / Nintendo alliance!!:D Wii60 is going to dominate! Go, MS & Nintendo!!:)
Really, the only consistant ones are NSMB and Brain Age ... they have been on the list for about 3 months now ...
All companies had a good showing in sale hope it stays that way. We gamers need all of them to stay competitive.
Digital Devil it's called the bargin shopper effect. Unreal Championship got lowered to five bucks so a lot of people are going to see that and pick it up. I mean five dollars is dirt cheap it's pratically giving it away. The other titles are 20 bucks now. Tramua Center had a massive reprint although you could always find it on bestbuy.com but most people for some reason have no idea about online stores.
" Still, at least you could pick up the Capcom fighting game at the site--rivals like GameStop.com don't currently carry the title. " - Capcom fighting game ? i believe it's published by Namco.
The fact that some of those games are over a year old, makes me wonder...is there a lack of games at bestbuy?
Dead Rising deserves to be there. That game was tough to find, it was sold out almost everywhere I went. But I finally got it at eb games on the 14. Way to be capcom.
Trauma Center had a resissue. Apparently a lot of people said they couldn't find the game and Atlus USA reprinted a lot of copies.
Yes! Dead Rising! I should have that by the end of the week. I've been playing the Dead Rising demo since it came out!
Good job, Dead Rising! And that's awesome for UC2 and Ridge Racer to be in there (even though I hate RR). It shows that pricing games at a low cost is critical to the success of some games. OXM recently did an article about good games not being sold. UC2 was in there. Now if only Pyschonauts was re-released at $5. And I really wonder why they won't share numbers. Or why the American NPD Group can't release sales figures on a weekly basis like Japan.
i bought the liandri conflict 2 weeks ago for 14.99, and now its 4.99(screams in rage). ah well it was worth the money, its an amazing game
phSychO_AtDawn: just b/c a dawn of the dea ripoff made a good game doesn't mean a shaun of dead or 28 days later rip-off would. i like where your head's at, though.
